I purchased this months and months ago. I am not a fan of the scent, it smells like sweet like birthday cake or a sweet, sweet milkshake. But the scent doesn't seem to waft away from your hair once applied so it's not like you're wearing a delicious after shave that will bring all the boys to the yard. It's light in the hair, not at all greasy, not at all shiny, and has a good hold for styling your hair into a "natural look" if that's what you're going for. 10/10 would recommend, but if you get triggered by birthday cake then maybe go with something else.

If you look at my pictures and the other ones in the reviews, Layrite seems to work similarly for everyone which is a very good thing. Maybe they don't show every single hair type but you can assume you're seeing examples of several different hair types. My hair is very thick growing but the hairs themselves are on the thin side. My hair is also a little frizzy which can give the appearance of brittleness also. Layrite can do a few things depending on how much you use but the best thing apart from the hold/shaping is the incredibly healthy conditioned appearance it gives your hair. It gives you a truly lustrous matte (not a low/medium 'shine') which is what I think most people really want: a shaped but completely natural look. People like me buy matte/low shine products but very few deliver when it comes to making your hair look super healthy. You can get a decent matte/low shine pomade like Fiber, but most are also a little harder to work with and they do not make your hair look healthier if you have frizzy or brittle or thin hair. Layrite somehow makes it very easy to put your hair into the exact form you desire without having an ultra strong hold and it won't make it so that you have to muscle a comb through your hair and keeping dragging it through to shape it the way you want - this often makes my hair look overworked and unnatural and I'll have to start all over bc I've overworked my hair, if that makes sense. So, my experience.. At first I used what might amount to two full thimbles. Frankly, once you work any amount through your hair, it doesn't feel like there's anything at all in your hair, it just feels like you're smearing your fingers through your damp or wet hair, so you might be tempted to use more. But that's fine because you'll get a great pliable strong hold with a fantastic buffed matte shine and luster to your hair. I've settled on dialing it back a bit and just using maybe two pea sized dabs and working it through my hair thoroughly. You still get a great hold and incredibly healthy looking hair but it will be easier to run a comb or your fingers through if you want to make adjustments or clean up with a bit of water throughout the day. I've also tried using a barely noticeable smear rubbed between my palms and working it through my hair and that gives you hair that moves freely and you can easily run your fingers or a comb through it repeatedly and maintain a loose shape through the day. A tiny amount also gives your hair a very healthy and conditioned look.

I have been using this product for years. It doesn’t make your hair look greasy at all but holds it in place nicely. Washes out very easily and if you don’t use a ton you won’t even notice it’s there. I am so glad they have a travel size, it’s perfect for tossing in a carry on.

I never leave reviews, but this is the best hair product I’ve ever purchased. I was skeptical of the size for the price, but it’s definitely worth it. It gives me a flexible hold without feeling like I have anything in my hair. Lightweight and not greasy at all. I touch my hair constantly throughout the day and it holds strong. I have fine hair and have gone through so many different products looking for the perfect fit. I’ve finally found it.

I first started using layrite when my daughter used it on my hair when she cut and styled my head at the Salon she worked for. I found that Amazon sold the same product so I did not hesitate to purchase a bottle when I needed to.

The stuff works great as a hair paste (better than the American crew stuff, especially because it washes out easily without shampoo) but the smell isn’t very nice… almost like an old candle or something. Guess that makes sense based off the ingredients but it would be a solid 5 star product without the scent (or maybe with some kind of light fragrance).
