We bought this to get the ground ready to plant grass. We have a few densely packed spots that the dogs run ragged into mud throughout the winter and this tool makes it easy to break it up so it will absorb water and hopefully allow the grass to grow. Wetting the ground first or using this after a good rain makes it easier to push the spikes into the ground. It is a bit of manual labor, but for the small areas we need to use this on, this was the best, cheap option.

I love the design of this Aerator along with the price, doesnt feel cheap, very sturdy, made my life much easier with the step on. I looked for other aerators and they were super heavy, or very expensive, either hurts my back or my wallet, this one is lighter and with less effort I aerate my lawn. No pressure on my back, I just step on it.
