I've spent just a couple of hours so far, but it's been a very enjoyable experience. I'm finding that there's a good learning curve and don't expect to sound like your favorite artist instantly. The ability to play music without any experience is very tempting but remember this instrument allows for chord progressions and not single notes so if your idea is to start shredding forget it! If playing and singing is your thing without tons of music lessons that this might work out. The sound on this instrument is very clear and I was surprised by how many different sounds could be had. Electric guitar in both regular and overdrive plus piano and others. The volume and sound are excellent and I'm just using the built in speakers, but I would imagine with an amplifier and even possibly a sound effects pedal the range could be amazing. Finally, it was delivered 4 days early and yes, I did download the app. I'm still exploring the app but so far, it's been very easy to navigate and hoping in the future to have more fun just learning and playing tunes. Overall, it's a good product just read and watch as many videos as possible, so you understand what you are getting before pulling the trigger on this one. Today is March 10th and I've had my Lava genie for almost 8 months. I constantly find more reasons to love playing this thing! I've been exploring many of the chords charts and find it very easy to switch sounds on a song. Sometimes a piano would make more sense so just by choosing a certain piano chart it's possible to change the sound of a song. This opens a great door to experimentation and is lots of fun too. I've also been using the Lava song editor website to transpose music not listed on the app to playable versions that can be saved. The editor allows you to cut and paste songs from websites into the page, edit the chords, beats pr measure, and key. When finished it can be loaded into the regular Lava app where it will interface with the Genie. There's tons of songs on the app but the editor allows you to play favorites or sometimes oldies not listed. I strongly suggest if you are thinking about getting a genie just do it! Yes there's a bit of learning curve but in no time you will be playing and learning songs you never thought possible. Too bad I can only give this instrument 5 stars!

I own (and play) a Genie, a Liber Live C1 and an Enya Cyber-G (plus a few traditional guitars) ... By Far (for so-called "smart guitars" ) I prefer the Genie (and remain at least intrigued by the Cyber-G for its interesting design choices that enable melody play). I originally ordered the C1 because I thought it sounded better (slightly) and seemingly had a superior design from an engineering standpoint... but I quickly became disappointed by the firmware and App software, plus the responsiveness of the company (including updates or communicating a clear future road map) and have come to LOVE the Genie for their balanced product execution, fantastic customer support (you can actually readily discuss the product with the CEO on Facebook - and good suggestions make it into the product pipeline), and their robust ecosystem that supports guitar players throughout their performance ability development. While their song chart player access subscription model results in extra costs, it shows a sense of integrity, respect for intellectual property and an assurance that the company is in the game for the long haul (not to mention, results in a vastly larger and more complete library). If you are more cost conscious, the ability to upload your own charts (free) is fairly robust (I've routinely copied / pasted charts from readily available web sources - which are automatically converted into "Genie Format") and while it takes a bit of effort to fine tune these "projects", the results are quite good (for some, this effort might be part of the fun here). I play the Genie a few hours each day and thoroughly enjoy it. I still believe (as an alternative, secondary, exploratory choice) that the Cyber-G is worth owning (I think the guitar itself might even edge out the Genie for it's engineering), but their software and ecosystem doesn't currently compare to Lava's. I do still pick it up a few hours a week, because I'm encouraged enough that I don't want to lose touch with it. Honestly, in spite of high hopes, I really couldn't recommend the C1 (and get frustrated by it)... I'm still holding onto it in hopes that they get their act together at some point (the firmware and App are miles behind), but I rarely touch it, given the superior alternatives. Bottom line, get the Genie if you are deciding between the three.

Excellent customer service. I had a problem with the first instrument. I was contacted almost immediately after I texted the seller. They were more than helpful and very courteous. I had complained that this instrument is not easy to learn unless you purchase the lava Plus subscription. They were kind enough to give me a free 3-year subscription. Once I got that I was able to learn several songs very quickly. It's a lot of fun to sit there and play. It has so many different sounds and chord progressions. It's also a lot of fun just to sing along with the music and be able to play the chords with it. I love the compactness of it and it is very light. I can sing a little bit but I have no guitar knowledge. But with this guitar you don't need it It shows you every note to play along with the lyrics. I'm not saying that this guitar will teach you how to play a real guitar. But it may lead you to learn to play a real one and will be very helpful in the process. I highly recommend this lava genie for anyone that wants to how to sing and play. A big shout out to Ken Song and his management team for all their help.

The workmanship is exquisite and the packaging is very surprising. The sound effect is also very good, at least higher than my requirements as a beginner. This holiday, I plan to make a little progress every day and try to play and sing simple songs by myself next week.

I purchased the LAVA Genie guitar on March 6 through Amazon. Unfortunately, I started experiencing sound issues not long after—during use, the sound would suddenly cut out completely. I reached out to the support team for help, but I never received a response. That’s very disappointing, especially for a product at this price point. The guitar itself has potential, but reliability and customer support are just as important. Without proper support, it’s hard to trust the company if something goes wrong. I hope LAVA Music improves their customer service, as this experience has been frustrating.

This product has truly exceeded my expectations. My daughter is absolutely captivated by it and can't bear to put it down. Its playability is exceptional; even a 5-year-old can easily strum and sing along. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone on the fence about purchasing. In fact, I'd say this product is far more impressive in reality than it appears in the product description. It's incredibly user-friendly. The app offers a diverse selection of popular songs suitable for all ages. My daughter is particularly enamored with "Baby Shark"! Moreover, the sound quality is outstanding, surpassing all my initial expectations. Upon reflection, I realize that this product allows individuals with no guitar background to experience the joy of playing and singing. While it may spark some debate for bypassing the more challenging aspects of traditional guitar learning, I say, so what? Right now, my 5-year-old daughter and I are thoroughly enjoying making music together. If this product can ignite her passion for music and foster a deep interest, then that's its true value. Right off the bat, although this looks like a guitar, and you hold it like a guitar, it is NOT a guitar! You may look the part, but no aspect of this instrument is anything like a real guitar. If you're purchasing this to learn how to play a guitar, you'll be absolutely lost the first time you pick up a real guitar. Now on the other hand, if you get this for what it is, a cool electronic instrument shaped liked a guitar, and understand its limitations, you'll love it! Build, sound quality and app integration is great, albeit a bit limited if you don't opt to purchase a subscription plan. The fact it comes with a nice case, and you can fold it down to take it on the go, is also a plus. Battery life is good, and there's a plethora of tutorial videos online to learn from. Price wise, it is not cheap, but it is also not ridiculously expensive. On par with other electronic musical devices of similar design and nature. All in all a good buy and fun instrument as long as you understand it is NOT a guitar!

We are a trio of singers travelling to local nursing homes and providing musical entertainment. We use the Lava Genie as our musical accompaniment with great success. We do everything from ballads, pop, boogie woogie and whatever else. Our song are pulled from the time period when 80 year old have grown up. Because of how we use the Genie, we require sophisticated combinations of the Genie application capabilities. Doing this required intensive study and trial and error to figure out everything we could do. It would be good for Lava if they could produce a sophisticated "how to" set of documents. This is a great buy and the customer service is excellent. Go for it! PS: Due to questions from our audience we put together an introductory funny song describing the unit. It is patterned after Chuck Berry's "My Ding-A-Ling" song. And we indeed call it a dingaling.
