Twenty years ago Sears introduced a laser level. I used it off and on for many projects. It was clunky and hard to align properly. It was basically a bad purchase on my part. Since that time I have relied on my Transit and a Four foot level. When I saw this tool and read about it, comparing it with the Sears unit as a baseline, it seemed to me to be just what I had looked for so many years ago. This laser unit's best feature is its self-leveling. The bright green laser light is highly visible indoors. I took it outside on a bright sunny day and the laser line was difficult to make out. In the shade of my house it showed up well against the aluminum siding. If you need to use a laser outside this unit may not be for you. Where this excels is indoors, in fading sunlight or even nighttime. This is the only limitation I have found. That said, for laying out showers, interior walls, even stairways with an angled light, it is easy to use and fast. Most of the features are fully adjustable. Establishing a plumb and square corner is simple. Turn it on and let it do its job. If you disturb it, don't worry. You can easily repeat the location of your baseline. Note that the unit can be used quickly by placing it on the floor or a flat surface. This allows for quick checks of plumb and level. It can be mounted on a photographer's tripod and can be adjusted vertically. Think of installing windows and window trim squarely. All of the window and door heads can be leveled to the same elevation in a room or a house. This is not a toy. It can be mounted on a wall, on a steel stud (magnetic mount built in) or even suspended from a ceiling. I can install it on my David White tripod with appropriate bolts and couplers (not included) Suspending the unit: The unit has a clamp that tightens on the top of the unit (see photo). This allows the attachment of a 5/8" standard threaded bolt or all-thread. This allows the unit to be suspended from a structure. Green Laser Projection Lines The controls allow for horizontal, vertical or both - lines to be projected (see photo) The lines can be left on continuously or blinking. There is a mount included (see last photo on the right) which allows precise centering on the target (included - English & Metric markings) It is extremely useful for establishing diagonal lines (slope - see the second to last photo on right In order to use the mount it is necessary to clamp in place or to use the magnets on the bottom of the mount. Using the tool: Read the directions on how to turn it on (Large Slide Button ) and select the operation style (Three buttons). There is a function that will permit establishing a grid. Useful for laying out tile. You will want to experiment with this feature. I set the unit up in a bathroom I built to allow my handicapped wife to have plenty of room in the shower (4'x6') for her and her health aide. It was a tricky layout since the walls were being attached to a house built in 1941. Nothing existing was plumb or level. The walls I built were plumb and the shower curb is level. I am confident that this unit will give you good results right out of the carrying case. One of the requirements for shower floors is the sloping of the floor to the drain. Also, to allow wall panels to be set plumb and level. We used cultured marble and it was a challenging installation. This unit would have made contouring of the floor/wall joint easy. Over the years I have spent good money on tools that promised to make my life better. Some are good, others not so good. I hate to spend money on a bad tool. This will not be one of those 'hope it works' things that sits unused for years. It is small and compact. Its flexibility is amazing and the layouts are very good. I like it. I will be trying to find uses for it. One that I am going to try is flat surfacing live oak planks over 30" wide using my Starrett right angle adjustable square as a check against the laser line. By moving the right angle base with the long leg vertical it is possible to see quickly any high/low places and thus know how to proceed. The green light will 'mark' a point on the inches scale. I work to a 1/16" of an inch flatness. The Sears unit never was much help when I tried to use it for this purpose. I was concerned about this "off brand" laser but I had been shopping for one for a while. This one has worked out great for me so far after a few weeks of use. It's passed my patented drop test a couple times (but I would not recommend that) The laser light is sufficient and bright enough to see, not sure how well it would do outdoors on a bright day but for my interior jobs I've used it for so far it's been great. It comes in a nice case with plenty of accessories. Honestly, for the cost, I don't think there's any room at all to complain about this thing. It's not a 500 dollar unit so don't expect that but it's perfectly great for a DIY person or someone like myself that does small side jobs. ... show more

Fancy little laser that is pack with features. Right away, you can tell they saved on cost by making it lightweight, which is expected for this price point but besides that, this unit works great. You have lots of options, from leveling in a straight line to diagonality. unit itself isnt so big so its easy to take it from job site to job site without issue. so far, i'm more than a few months into it and wanted to make sure it lasted and it has. I will report back if it doesn't last a year, but I think it will. ... show more

It is not easy to line up ceiling lights straight. This tool really did a good job of making it a breeze. The tool is lightweight and comes with its own carrying case, which really helps keep it neat and organized. The case is of good quality. While I would not drop it on purpose, it would be fine. The foam inside is sturdy, and the laser would survive it. The battery lasted me couple of hours with continues use, and you can easy switch it. Switching the battery without moving the laser is only easy if you have a tripod (not included). The self-leveling is limited but very easy to use. If it cannot level itself, it will just beep. The strength of the laser is good, but with direct light, it becomes harder to see, especially after about 20 ft. Overall, it is an excellent buy, and I recommend it to people who won't use it too often. If you plan on using it often, it will be fine, but you might have difficulty when all the lights are on. ... show more

Wife loves this for when she is decorating it lets her level stuff with out moving a heavy level around all the time and poking holes in the walls. I like it because it lets me keep straight lines when doing house work .

I was conflicted on what to write for this review. I had to wait for a few weeks before I wrote this review. The problem is that I didn't like the craftsmanship of this item. The plastic has a somewhat cheap feel. And entire thing doesn't feel "solid". The tripod mount is made out of lightweight plastic that feels like it can break easily. And I can see it becoming brittle after a few years. However, does this thing do its job? Yes! It does it well. It creates many level lines, more than other similarly-priced levelers at this price point. Let me assure you that this thing has all the accessories you need.
