  • A Timeless Treasure: A Review of the Larsson & Jennings Boyfriend Mini Classic Watch
Color: Mixed Gold
Let me tell you, in today's world of smartwatches and digital everything, I wasn't sure the traditional watch market still had a place. Then I saw the Larsson & Jennings Boyfriend Mini Classic, and it all came flooding back. My wife used to wear a wristwatch all the time, and this little beauty sparked a memory. Maybe, I thought, it was time to remind her of a treasure from her past. Besides, with a Mother's Day gift on the horizon, this watch was calling my name. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. This watch is simply stunning. The combination of white and yellow gold in the band and watch case is classic and elegant, and the pearlized face adds a touch of sophistication. Unlike its high-tech smartwatch cousins that wouldn't last a dunk in the ocean, this Larsson & Jennings can handle a trip to the beach or a swim in the ocean. Perfect for our upcoming summer cruise – a timeless accessory for a timeless adventure. The size is ideal too. The face is about an inch across and a quarter inch thick – not bulky, but not too delicate either. The adjustable strap is about seven inches long, but it comes with removable links that can shrink it down to a comfortable six and a quarter inch for my wife's wrist. And so far, it keeps perfect time – no fiddling with settings or dead batteries here. There's a lithium ion battery inside, but we haven't had to access it yet. Here's what really sets this watch apart, though. Unlike so many smartwatches where the face seems like an afterthought slapped onto a band, the Larsson & Jennings is a cohesive unit. The beauty of the watch case extends seamlessly all the way around the band. It's a design touch you just don't see very often anymore, especially in smartwatches. This Larsson & Jennings Boyfriend Mini Classic is more than just a watch; it's a reminder. A reminder that beauty and timelessness shouldn't be sacrificed for the convenience of technology. In a world obsessed with the latest gadgets, this watch is a breath of fresh air. It's a return to a classic elegance that never goes out of style. My wife absolutely loved it. On Mother's Day, it was like giving her a piece of her past, a reminder of a time before the digital revolution. She wears it everywhere now, and it looks fantastic on her wrist. It's the perfect complement to any outfit, from a casual day at the beach to a fancy night out. Overall, the Larsson & Jennings Boyfriend Mini Classic Watch is a 5-star buy. It's a stunning timepiece that combines classic design with modern functionality. It's comfortable to wear, water-resistant, and keeps perfect time. But more than that, it's a reminder of the enduring beauty of a well-crafted watch. If you're looking for a timeless gift for yourself or someone special, the Larsson & Jennings Boyfriend Mini Classic is a perfect choice. It's a watch that will be treasured for years to come. ... show more

  • Excellent quality, looks and feels good on. No second hand.
Color: Mixed Gold
* Overall Impression: -This is a good value for a very nice, high quality watch that looks nice on the wrist in a classic style. -Note there are several variations in the listing: I’m reviewing the boyfriend original mini, in the two toned (silver and yellow gold toned) style. -Note that the mini boyfriend classic style does not have crystal accents on the face as shown, it’s plain with no crystal accents. That’s the boyfriend mini elevate vs classic style with the crystal accents. * Pros-what I liked and what worked well: -Good value for the style and quality. For the quality and style, the price is competitive with more commonly known brands. -Excellent quality, it easily is the same quality with more commonly known brand named watches. Good quality on the materials, make and finish. It’s well made. -Classic, timeless style. This isn’t a watch that will ever go out of style and it goes with everything. -Looks as good in person and on the wrist as the pictures show. It’s even nicer in person than in the pictures. I was impressed and not in any way disappointed by it. It looks great on the wrist and I really love it. I’m very picky about watches, and don’t always like every watch I try on, but this one looked and felt good on. Some watches don’t look as nice or feel good on, this one looked and felt good. -Good size. It’s more of a medium size (in the boyfriend mini classic vs standard boyfriend) vs larger or smaller. (If you want larger, go with the standard boyfriend vs mini classic.) -Lightweight, not overly heavy on the wrist. It’s well made but not heavy on the wrist during wear. I have some watches (a bulky Croton is a good example) that I feel the weight of during wear, this one is lighter on the wrist. -Battery operated with a replaceable lithium battery in a common size (size: SR621SW). -Roman numerals (XII at the 12 mark, the others are just lines). -Date (at the 6 pm mark) (in a round crystal bubble inside the main watch crystal). -Two toned (in this variation), with a silver tone and yellow gold tone. (Yellow gold toned areas: accents on the watch bracelet, watch numbers, watch hands, watch crown, watch bezel) 18ct gold plated (not solid, plated). -Larson & Jennings logo printed in text on the watch face below the 12 time mark. -Sthlm (short for Stockholm) LDN (short for London) printed at the 6 time mark around the date number.) (This is also embossed on the watch bezel side on the opposite side of the crown, the same text, but it’s subtle and not very noticeable.) -This is a rectangular watch but slightly more square then some with a longer more elongated rectangle. It’s almost between a rectangle and square but not quite square, but a shorter rectangle. I have both standard rectangle and square watches and this one is in between those shapes. -Smaller at 31mm than the standard sized boyfriend version that’s a larger 40mm size (see the listing pictures to compare the two). -Strap band adjustment length: 180mm (7.086 inches) to 185mm (7.283 inches). If you need it shorter than this you will have to either have links removed or buy a device and remove them yourself. -Watch bracelet strap is gold plated stainless steel in a link style. It’s mostly stainless steel in a silver tone with some yellow gold toned accents in the center links. It does have a nice flex between the links (which are removable by a professional or if you have the right device yourself) and isn’t too stiff. It fits the wrist well with the flexibility and is comfortable to wear. -Standard watch clasp style closure. Opens and closes easily and securely. It’s a silver toned stainless with a crowned lion imprinted on it as the pictures show. It has a button on the side to open it, and you press it closed to close it. If you’ve used Croton or Matthey Tissot watches this is similar in the closure. -The watch back is a standard press on and off style. It doesn’t have hardware on it. You will need a compatible square to rectangular shaped watch press and watch battery changing kit to change your own batteries (kit not included). -Watch back text: (see the pictures) “All stainless steel, water resistant 30M, Japan Movement” (Mine also said, but it’s not shown in the pictures: made in PRC.) -Watch face size: 31 mm (1.22) tall -Rated at 30 m (meter) water resistant (not waterproof) (30 m = 98.4 feet) -Crown (how you adjust it) is on the right size and doesn’t stick out too far, it won’t be an issue with it getting caught. -Watch face, bezel and crystal don’t sit up too high off the wrist and the bracelet band area doesn’t get caught. It’s fairly slim in how it sits flatter on the wrist than some more raised styles. I prefer this style as it doesn’t get caught on items or bumped as easily sitting closer and lower toward the wrist vs higher. -Plain, light background on the watch face. -Mineral glass crystal. (Doesn’t specify the type of mineral.) -Japanese quartz movement (not Swiss). -Extremely quiet. I couldn’t hear anything at all, even with it next to my ear. -Keeps accurate time (be sure the crown is pressed in fully to start it). -Presentation is nice, attractive and giftable and is as shown in the listing pictures. -Instruction booklet included (look under the presentation, it’s a bit hidden). (You’ll need it to learn how to use and set the watch.) -Vegan and cruelty free brand. -Eco friendly, made of 100% sustainable stainless steel. * Cons-what I didn’t like and what didn’t work well: -It was a little difficult to set the date and the proper crown (pull out) position. It has 3 positions (locked normal for use while it’s running, 1 slightly out, 2 fully out) and it was difficult to get to position 2 vs locked or fully out. You need to be in the middle position 2 to set the date without having to go to position 3 and rotate the hands fully for the time to change the date. I was able to get it to work, but it took a few tries to get that position 2 vs fully in or out. Tip, set the time properly before the date. I didn’t do this, and ended up changing the date on accident (to the new day as the time on the watch changed) and having to start over. -The watch back and back case (where the battery goes) are a standard pop on, pop off (with proper devices to do so and a watch press) style vs a threaded hardware style. This is a standard style, but a threaded hardware style is much easier to open and close to replace the battery and you won’t need a watch press and watch battery changing set. You will need a watch battery changing set with a compatible square to rectangular watch press to change the battery on this one yourself. -No device included to shorten the watch bracelet links and remove them. You’ll need to have your own or take it to a professional to have this done. This brand does sell and make a compatible device for this, but you can get your own in any watch link kit as well, they’re fairly standard. -Some of the listing pictures show a watch with crystals in it on the face, this was incorrect for this model, it does not have any crystal accents in it. Personally, I prefer that it doesn’t have those, but if you were expecting it the boyfriend mini does not, the boyfriend mini elevate style (you’ll have to find it in another listing) does have crystals as shown in some pictures. -There is no second hand on the watch to count seconds. This doesn’t bother me personally, but it may some people who were expecting or needing a second hand. -Be careful when opening it from the presentation carton. I found it a little difficult to get the presentation carton open. Note that the watch is wrapped inside it vs a standard watch holder. The presentation is nice, but it is loose vs held in a watch holder inside the carton. -It’s not specified what the case glass is made of. Some will tell you sapphire or quartz, it just says mineral glass. * Tips & Thoughts: -Note this is a battery powered watch, it’s not one you twist to set and power. -Always turn the setting crown (you pull out to set) clockwise when setting or adjusting the date or time, never reverse it and turn it counterclockwise, you risk ruining a watch when you do that. -You’re better off to prolong the life of the watch to keep a battery in it and leave it running at all times vs stop and start the watch. It’s going to last longer this way vs stopping and starting it. You may go through more batteries, but the watch should last longer overall. -You will need to remove the small plastic tab on the watch crown to get it to start to work and before setting it. -This is not going to be as heavy and bulky in the watch case as some watches, it’s a bit slimmer and lighter in the boyfriend mini style. Some people might think it’s not heavy enough (compared to say a heavier Croton for example) as it’s not quite as thick and bulky as some. But this is by design to make it lighter and slimmer than the traditional boyfriend watch and heavier, thicker watches. It’s not flimsy or badly made, it’s very nice but don’t expect a super thick bulky watch in the boyfriend mini, it’s meant to be slimmer and lighter without sacrificing quality or durability. -This is going to be smaller in the boyfriend mini vs standard boyfriend size. Look at the listing pictures for the size differences and details. This is a smaller, slimmer watch that’s a bit smaller without being too small. If you want a medium size watched, this is great, if you want large, you may prefer the standard boyfriend vs mini boyfriend. -You can get a watch bracelet link remover to take out links to shorten it, or take it to a professional. -Be sure and measure your wrist to be sure it will fit, if you don’t want to remove links. -While it does have some waterproof features and rating, I wouldn’t personally do this on purpose to this or any watch. It’s good to know if it gets splashed or you’re in the rain it will hold up, but personally I never deliberately submerse a watch (swim, shower, etc.). -The two toned watch (gold and silver toned) is for the price obviously not solid gold on the yellow gold areas. It is 18k electroplated and is well done and should hold up for many years. However, I’ve noted in previous watches (not from this maker) in this two toned style, that over time (usually about 5-10 years on a good brand) some of the yellow gold plating does rub off down to the silver below it on the watch case and band. I’m very careful with any watch and don’t submerse or expose to chemicals, etc. But eventually every yellow gold (or two toned on the yellow gold) toned watch I’ve ever had does this about 5-10 years in. I don’t know that this one will do that or when, but it’s likely eventually. Try to be careful on water, moisture and substances (lotion, perfume, etc) near the watch to slow this down. If this is something that would bother you if it eventually happens, I’d suggest the silver tone with no yellow gold accents. I usually wear a silver toned watch and tie it in with a gold bangle next to it (be sure it doesn’t scratch it, I wear a tighter, smaller oval bangle that doesn’t rub or slide over my watches). -Note that the watch face, while it is nice, is not natural mother of pearl or a synthetic in the mother of pearl style. I have other watches both with natural and synthetic mother of pearl and the look is different. -I love a good watch with good quality and a good value. You don’t always have to go for the pricier name brands to get a good watch. I love and use among others Croton, Mathey Tissot, Charles Winston (not Harry but it’s a sub branch of that) among a few. I would compare the quality of this watch with Croton (the lighter ones, not the bulkier cased ones) or Mathey Tissot. -I usually prefer Swiss watches as they last a long time and are reliable. This one is not Swiss, the brand did have some Swiss made watches, but this one is not labeled as Swiss made, it says on the back “made in PRC.” When you look them up, there were and may still be some Swiss made watches, but this one does not have that label on it. -I’m very careful on any watch brand, and want to look up the history and reliability. This brand, Larsson & Jennings is a UK based brand that’s been around since about 2012 and if you look up their history they’ve had stores in UK and NYC and have been sold in high end department stores. If you look them up, you’ll also see their watches are mentioned in popular and well known fashion magazines as well. It’s not a random or brand new name or brand, they have a good history and people seem to love their watches. I wanted to find this out for myself before selecting this watch and was satisfied it was a good brand in the reputation, quality and reliability. -You can get extra watch straps and bands from this brand if you wanted to switch up, they do sell them, I checked as that’s a feature I like to be sure about. ... show more

  • Stylish and Classic Timepiece
Color: Mixed Gold
I recently got the Larsson & Jennings Boyfriend Mini Classic Wrist Watch, and it has quickly become a favorite. The watch has a timeless design with its square face and a two-tone link bracelet that adds a touch of elegance. It looks great on the wrist, striking a perfect balance between being neither too big nor too small. One of the first things I noticed was the quality of the watch. It feels well-made and sturdy, which is impressive given its reasonable price point. The classic design with a contemporary twist makes it versatile for both casual and formal occasions. The two-tone bracelet complements a variety of outfits, adding a subtle yet sophisticated charm. The lithium battery is a standout feature for me. Unlike typical quartz watches, this one boasts a battery life of 5-6 years, which means less hassle with frequent replacements. The watch keeps accurate time, and the date function is a handy addition. However, the presentation could have been better. The box it came in was a bit dirty, which was slightly disappointing, especially if you're considering it as a gift. Despite this, the watch itself was in perfect condition and looked even better in person than in pictures. The comfort level of the watch is noteworthy. It sits nicely on the wrist and doesn’t feel bulky or heavy. The adjustable bracelet ensures a good fit, and the clasp mechanism is secure and easy to use. ... show more
