  • A good place to start.
This bird loft arrived in 3 large boxes via FedEx. The boxes were worn but not damaged. There were a couple damaged pieces inside. The small door in the front door bird release was completely smashed and it's unusable. I will construct another. A few other parts were cracked but usuable. The instructions are pretty clear. Theres approximately 20 steps. Each one easy to comprehend. My booklet was stapled incorrectly so I had to skip to the correct page, but each step is clearly marked. All parts have a letter designation marked on them. Only tool needed is a Philips screwdriver or drill with torque setting adjusted properly as not to overtighten. All screws can be done by hand as there is predrilling and the wood is fairly soft. I used a drill because there were probably 100+ screws. I assembled this by myself. It took around 2 hours. I made no mistakes and each piece was installed correctly the first time, which is a rare occurrence for me. I usually end up taking something apart and flipping a piece, or turning it around, etc. Didn't happen here because wooden pegs and holes align for location before screwing in place. First you construct the cubby area, then the enclosure. Lastly the roof. I opted to construct my loft in one location then move it across the yard before roofing, as the asphalt roofing panels are quite heavy. Moving it at this point was difficult but not impossible. This unit is not sturdy enough to move after roof application. Too heavy. Probably around 150 lbs total weight. The frame isn't designed to be easily slid or dragged across the ground without major breakage. Build quality is better than I expected. Hardware cloth is on the thin side, but it is metal and is fastened securely inside with small staples with no sharp edges exposed. There are access doors on each side directly in front of the cubbies. There is a larger door in front, which I cannot fit through. No matter. Don't need to. There are metal latch hardware on each door opening. Non locking. Seems pretty durable. Nothing too fancy, but appropriate. There are 2 slide out trays in the rear that come out completely for cleaning. They have a plastic tray insert made for hosing off. The birds also stand on the same plastic tray inside the cubbies. Not ideal but that's ok. I provided terra Cotta saucers for nesting in each cubby. So now, when I remove the tray, the saucers come with. Each tray is approximately 1 1/2" tall. I honestly don't expect to empty the trays often as pigeons tend not to poop where they sleep. There are exceptions however. My current lofts are elevated off the ground and are made of plywood. Therefore, my birds had to learn to forage. With this loft, it will be more regular and natural for them. Each cubby is quite spacious and my large king pigeon pairs will have room. The roof is supported with 4 trusses. The 4 roofing panels are covered with asphalt grit. There are also top cap panels and side panels to cover gaps in the seams of the roof. I expected plastic roofing panels. The roof assembly alone weighs roughly 65 lbs. My main concern was wind blowing the loft over. Won't happen. But do take it into consideration at placement. I have a small privacy fenced backyard and rarely see 40 mph winds. If you have an open field and get 50+ mph winds, you will probably need to make concessions for that. Possibly reinforce/anchor the unit. All said, I don't feel like this was a great value, but shipping of 3 large heavy boxes was included, and with the worsening economy and everything rising in price, it's not completely unheard of. And it looks proper, whereas the lofts I have now don't look great, despite being tough and functional. If you are just starting out with pigeons, this is a great home for probably a dozen or so birds. ... show more

  • Surprisingly Satisfied
Ok so clearly I was super nervous about buying this. Like it's a huge price for a major risk. That being said I'm happy. I bought this for a breeding loft for pigeons. Anyone with pigeons knows that they're very expensive sometimes and you can't trust just any loft to hold them. This loft was sketchy but once all the birds were in. I was surprisingly Satisfied. It's decently sturdy although I did add some extra screws and clamps to assist with that. The wood was easy to crack but if you're careful and have a low setting drill it's not a problem. The cage is smaller then I expected and I can't walk in it easily at all. However the dimensions listed were accurate. The pieces fit together decently and it's very very cute. This loft is actually perfect for someone wanting to get into pigeons who doesn't want to invest in a top dollar loft. The top door can easily be modified as a trap door if someone would want to get into racing. Another issue I have with it is the back two doors open all together on each level. Which isn't bad per day unless you want to clean one of the three nesting areas while another is occupied with eggs. You just can't. It would receive full stars if each section was stand alone. But I understand why they chose the design they did. It's definitely quick just not if you're ACTUALLY breeding pigeons with this loft. All in all it's not really worth the 799 but it's certainly a cheaper smarter option then building your own. Especially if you're like me and lack the carpentry skills. Basically buy this if you can't build your own but honestly try to build your own and save money. ... show more
