I chose a 5 star rating because I believe it deserves it. The Lansky system is my first venture into knife sharpening. I own the Diamond sharpening system and I added this because I wanted to get a finer edge. It does deliver that for sure! For the amount of money I paid and the sharpness I am now getting on my knives I consider this addition to my Lansky System priceless! Edit: I wanted to note that the the item I received is different than pictured. My item was not a blue handle with blue stone, it was a blue handle with a white stone. But the package did say "Polishing Stone" on it. I am not listing this as a problem but for others, like me, who are a little on edge about items not as pictured. Update on performance: I cannot tell you how much I love this little guy and what it does to finish off the edge on my blades!! I had a newer knife that was losing that factory sharpness, I mean I use it a lot at work and it was still very sharp but I really enjoy a really sharp knife. I put some oil on the stone and got to work. When I was finished I put it to the paper test, for those of you who don't know what that is that is when you hold a single piece of paper and slice downwards. If the knife is sharp it will slice through the piece of paper. The sharper the knife the less burrs you will see on the paper. It was a clean cut. Very clean. I've read a couple of reviews that say this does not work, I would implore anyone and everyone who is not getting an excellent finishing edge to check your sharpening angle against the original sharpening angle. Anything different will result in no results. This is a super fine stone, and it will not re-edge your blade. Well it will, if you stroke it for over 24 hours. 10-15 on a proper angle will deliver incredible results. Update 2: 2018-09-10 Still use it. Cautious of its ability to provide accurate angles on one side of sharpening. Overall disappointed.

Not sure what Lanskey is doing but hone was not attached to the handle. Adhesive not properly set and giving to 3rd parties to sell at discounted price for being damaged or not up to QA standards. Who knows. Some adhesive and its fine.

I lost my older sapphire hone, originally blue, so replaced it with the newer version. The product does a nice job smoothing the edge of a knife blade. It does not do much as a sharpener but once sharp, this helps refine the very edge. Mine broke in under two weeks. It dropped from a coffee table onto a wooden floor. The hone popped right off of the backing/holder. The glue patterns suggest most of the glue was in the air cavities where it cannot help hold both parts together.

Ok, I received this stone today... The thing that first struck me was that the stone is a white color instead of being purple as shown in the images. I compared it with the Ultra fine stone (white stone in a yellow holder) that I received at the same time, and they feel pretty much the same. On closer inspection, the working surface has a recessed area about 2/3 of the way up the stone, where it's not flush with the rest of the surface. It's a pretty big defect for a super-fine polishing surface. I've contacted Lansky using their website, and will update this comment based on their response. Note that I've been using a Lansky sharpening system for about 25 years, and am a big fan. Don't let this negative review dissuade you from trying the Lansky system. Update: I contacted Lansky, and they sent me a replacement stone. The replacement stone has a flat working surface, which is a big improvement. Unfortunately, the edges were jagged. This isn't something that would affect the use of the stone, but it is unsightly. I used the diamond-fine stone to smooth the edges at a 45 degree angle, and got rid of the jagged edges. Note that the replacement again was a white stone, not the purple stone that's shown in the images and on the packaging. I used the new stone today, and it seems to have a more coarse finish than the ultra-fine white stone. This despite the sapphire stone being advertised as 2000 grit and the ultra-fine stone being advertised as 1000 grit. Oh well, either one works well for putting a final finish on the edge. Upgrading to 5 stars for Katherine in the Lansky customer service department standing behind their product.

I received this stone along with the deluxe diamond kit and went to work on my EDC folder. After going from extra course to fine in the deluxe kit, I opened the package for the super sapphire and immediately noticed that the stone was falling off from its plastic mount. Further inspection caused the stone to completely detach from the mount. Before going through Amazon, I contacted Lansky through their website. I received a reply within 24 hours stating that they normally require the product to be returned for QA inspection and a replacement to be sent, they waived this for me! That is a plus for me because I ordered the item with the sharpener to take advantage of free shipping, and was afraid that sending the super sapphire back would cost more than the item itself. That alone shows how they care for their customers. Any company willing to back their product like that is a good company that I certainly would do business with again, and in fact will. Their customer support truly is 5 stars in my experience. As others have noted, it seems getting that mirror finish is nearly impossible, but I may be doing it wrong here. Getting a mirror finish takes time and effort, something I havent put too much into that particular knife since I was just happy to have it shaving sharp and even happier finding out about them sending me a replacement stone. If you inspect the folder that I did, you will see "patches" of blade with a mirror finish, so I dont doubt the sapphire's ability to put on a mirror finish, I may just be using the wrong technique.
