Spode Blue Italian was made possible by Josiah Spode's perfection of blue under-glaze printing in 1784.This collection is a tapestry of blue scene's and figure's. The 14-inch Oval Platter is perfectly sized for most dining need's. A medium-size roast or a filet of fish on rice pilaf looks spectacular brought to the table on this 14-inch Blue Italian oval platter from Spode. Just as on the matching dinnerware, the historic pattern is rendered in rich cobalt blue using Spode's famous underglaze printing. The classical scene of Roman ruins and pastoral landscape fills the center of the platter, while a Chinese-inspired floral border wraps the subtly scalloped rim. A hit with collectors since its introduction in 1816, the pattern decorates a staggering array of dinnerware, cookware, and giftware. Made in China of Spode's highest-quality earthenware known as Imperialware, the durable platter is safe for the refrigerator, freezer, microwave, and dishwasher, as long as sudden temperature changes are avoided.
