Description

Academy Award(R) nominated stars Joaquin Phoenix (Best Supporting Actor, GLADIATOR, 2000) and John Travolta (Best Actor, PULP FICTION, 1994) ignite the intense action in this heroic tale of ordinary men with uncommon courage! As part of a tightly knit brotherhood of skilled firefighters, Jack Morrison (Phoenix) grows from inexperienced rookie to seasoned veteran as he faces a dangerous job that makes him a hero to strangers but often shortchanges his wife (Jacinda Barrett -- THE HUMAN STAIN) and kids. Then, when he becomes trapped in the worst blaze of his career, the things Jack holds most important -- family, duty, courage -- come sharply into focus. Review "Joaquin Phoenix and John Travolta BURN up the screen in this film." -- Kendis Gibson, CNN HEADLINE NEWS, ATLANTA "Joaquin Phoenix gives an unforgettable performance and John Travolta is at the top of his game." -- Larry King "Two Thumbs up!" -- EBERT & ROEPER " Ladder 49 fires up the screen with non-stop, heart-pounding action!" -- Clay Smith, ACCESS HOLLYWOOD

  • Keeps you at the edge of your seat
Extremely dramatic. You watch the early times and then you watch the current situation. Back and forth. You wonder if he’s going to make it.

  • Warning: This Movie Will Make You Want to Hug Every Firefighter You See
I went into Ladder 49 thinking it was just going to be some action flick with fireballs and dramatic slow-mo shots. Nope. Within five minutes, I was emotionally invested, sweating like I was in the burning building myself, and questioning why I don’t own a Dalmatian. The fire scenes? πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ (literally). The camaraderie? Bro-mance levels off the charts. Joaquin Phoenix made me feel like I needed to start carrying an axe around just in case. John Travolta delivered motivational speeches that made me want to stand up in my living room and yell, β€œYES, CAPTAIN!” like a confused extra. By the end, I was ugly-crying into my popcorn, saluting the TV, and Googling β€œhow to volunteer for the fire department even though I can’t climb a ladder without getting winded.” This movie is basically: part action, part tear-jerker, and part emotional damage wrapped in fireproof gear. Watch it if you want to laugh, cry, and then immediately check the batteries in your smoke detectors. 10/10 would get my feelings set on fire again. ... show more

This movie is amazing I watched it like four times. After it's a great very heartfelt. Makes me cry all the time but it shows you the camaraderie with firemen

  • Riveting
I have watched this movie several times over the years, and it still grabs me. It pulls you in from the very beginning. The character development in this film is SUPERB; you care about the characters right out of the gate, you care about them, and you root for them, laugh with them and cry for them throughout the movie. And yet, through it all, you know just where it is inexorably leading. And that secret knowing, it only makes what you are watching more poignant. I have always had a great love and respect for both police officers and firefighters; both take a special kind of courage, to run toward danger when others are running away...and this movie puts a face to the courage and sacrifice of a firefighter. A great movie, this one will be considered a classic about firefighters. ... show more
