  • Price is right. Quality is great. Why buy anything else? Just beware of the size.
Style: Modern Size: 6.75-inch x 11.1-inch x 1.14-inch Color: Silver
I buy these for hanging on the wall (hanger bracket on back) or for standing on our desks in the office (picture frame style stand on back). I love the sensor for comparing the temperature outdoors and indoors. You can set the sensor in a window sill and close the window. It's fairly accurate that way. Just be advised that it's very sensitive to sunlight so the outdoor temp will skyrocket when the sensor is in the sun and plummet when the sensor is in the shade. That's why I own several. Compared to an old spring-type mechanical outdoor temp gauge, this digital temp and clock is pretty good. The clock of course is outstanding. A good set of alkaline batteries will last about a year and lithium batteries will last much longer, perhaps more than twice as long. The day, date, and time are always spot on. I don't use the moon phase feature which some of them have. When leaking batteries ruined one of my sensors, I simply ordered another sensor online and I was back in business. You have to pair the sensor with the clock by adding batteries to the sensor first, the add the clock batteries and set the time/date, etc. It will recognize the temp sensor. A great product. ... show more

  • No Problems--Thus Far
Style: Modern Size: 6.75-inch x 11.1-inch x 1.14-inch Color: Silver
I've always been a fan of this style of clock. Having something on the wall that gives you not just the time but the day/date/month, the phase of the moon, AND both the inside and the outside temperature seemed almost miraculous some years back when they first came out. I think I ordered my first one sometime before Y2K, and have had maybe five others since then. The problem has always been that, in one way or the other, each clock did not live up to the hype. Most have been devilishly hard to set up: the buttons and pushing combination needed to achieve the correct settings were complicated, and often the instructions just made things more complicated (thank GAWD for YouTube!). Some took a long time (days, even longer) to talk to whatever it is that they talk to (National Bureau of Standards?), to get the exact time and date right, and even then there were usually mistakes. One never did. Temperature readings, especially the outside temps, were at best approximations that could vary by as much as 5-6 degrees F., and one clock had the annoying habit of displaying "NO" for outside temp. whenever it got below zero (and living in Minnesota at the time that happened far too frequently). To sum up, they were fun--and fascinating--but VERY annoying. In fairness I've always been a price shopper, but those cheap(er) Chinese knockoffs just don't cut it. Last month my then-clock decided to totally lose it's mind, so I went to old standby Amazon to check what was out there. The usual page after page after page of the aforesaid knockoffs, but I DID see the one I ended up buying, the one by LaCrosse Technologies. I did have one by LaCrosse Technologies a long time back when they first came out, and though it did have its fair share of annoying habits it did, in retrospect, perform better than the subsequent knockoffs. The price at $45 was a bit higher than most of the knockoffs but I figured what the heck and ordered it. (LaCrosse Technologies products are made in China too but at least the NAME is American!). Anyway, when it arrived I handed it off to my wife to set up as she is better at those things than I am. It took maybe five minutes to install the batteries and get the wall unit humming (actually it doesn't hum but you know what I mean...). It talked to whatever it is that it was supposed to talk to and within a short period of time (couple hours as I recall) all readings appeared correct. For the outside sensor, I built sort of a small birdhouse-looking thing with an open face (maybe 6" high by 2" wide by 2" deep, but no front or bottom so it is open to the air), tacked it to the north face of a tree in the yard and hung the sensor in it. I had previously installed the batteries in the sensor and it matched the inside temp. reading exactly, so I didn't anticipate any weirdness when it was placed outside. I was right. There was none. That was all on the first day. Since then everything has been working as it should with exactly zero problems., Anyway... WHAT I LIKE 1. Ease of setup (see above) 2. Accuracy of time/temp. readings (so far, anyway) 3. BIG numbers for the time. The time numerals are over 2" high and easy to see from across the room. Even the seconds ticking off are in numerals an inch high. 4. Attractive to look at. 5. The setting buttons are on the top, not on the back, which means you get to watch the FRONT of the clock as you set things up. 6. It doesn't try to do too much. I've had 'em that had a lit face, kept all recorded temps, give highs and lows for every day, had a color readout, and a few other things. Those were the ones that gave me the most headaches. This one doesn't. It might not do as much as some of the others, but what it DOES do, it does very well. WHAT I DON'T LIKE Very little. Actually nothing so far. The last remaining bridge to be crossed is to see how it performs when we go on daylight savings time. The other clocks I've had, had real issues with that. BOTTOM LINE So far so good (actually more like excellent). I'm giving it four stars. If it doesn't lose it's mind when comes time to change over to EDT I'll amend this review to five stars. Buy it. You won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Large, easy to read numbers from across the room. Great purchase.
Style: Modern Size: 6.75-inch x 11.1-inch x 1.14-inch Color: Silver
This atomic clock looks more modern & has more features than our old one. It was really super easy to set up by following the included instructions in 5 minutes or so. Follow placing the batteries in the correct order in the directions. First place the batteries in the outdoor sensor. Then, the clock. Then, you press & release the set button to manually search for the atomic signal. The tower icon will flash & then turn solid when the signal is found. You do need to do an initial set up on the clock with items like your time zone, daylight savings time, etc...along with the time, day of the week, month, & date. Oh, the buttons to set these are located on the top of the clock. They took me a minute to find. Lol. The numbers are larger & easier to read even across the room. It features a moon phase which is kinda cool. I used one flat head screw to attach the outside sensor to the house. It does not come with one. Also, you will need 4 AA batteries on hand: 2 for the clock & 2 for the outside sensor which was no big deal either. We are really impressed with this atomic clock & give it our highest recommendations. ... show more

  • Great-looking, great performing product!
Style: Digital Clock Size: 11.10 x 1.14 x 6.61 inch Color: Brown/Black
Lots of good to talk about here. The first thing to talk about is how the product looks, and it looks great. The faux wood and brushed plastic work surprisingly well together to produce an understated good-looking appearance. The numbers are bright, crisp, and sharp -- very very easy to read for everything except maybe the month and day, which are a bit more compressed. But since those are the two least important pieces of information on this clock to me, I don't mind at all. The included temperature sensor is accurate, and has an excellent range. I'm particularly impressed by the fact that both the clock battery state and the temperature monitor battery state are both included on the display, so you can see in advance which need to be replaced and when. The battery life on both have been terrific for me. I've been using the set for several months now and I haven't yet had to replace the batteries on either the clock or the sensor. Everything else about the product is as you would expect, including the super-accurate clock, plus a superfluous but fun moon phase. All in all, a great product and one that I can recommend highly! ... show more
