  • For the price this is hard to beat
I have a Droid Razr Maxx and this is defiantly not comparable, but a Razor Maxx would cost you $700 so my review is a relative value to the price. It is not perfect, if it were it would not be $50. But here are a few points so far: - Even as just an Android 4.0 Media player this is a good value, which is my primary purpose of this phone - Wifi download maintains good speed. I have run netflix movies and youtube videos with no issue - Game such as temple run work very well - Video quality on Netflix is good - Even though it is plastic, it feels well built - Google play and wifi work without activation on boost I have not been able to evaluate battery life yet. I have not made a call. When you consider that a 2gb Ipod shuffle costs $40 with a fraction of the functionality of this phone I think this is a real value. Update: I have added Goove IP along with google voice to make this a free VOIP phone with its own phone number. It works very well. I have also added many apps and loaded it with music. This makes and exceptional MP3 player with good audio quality (the speaker on it is amazingly loud). I have tried at least a dozen games and all of them work very well. I combined it with the "Kyocera Hydro C5170 Boost Mobile Hybrid Double Layer Skin Case, Perforated Armor (Black / Red)" from Amazon which cost $4.75 shipped. This makes this phone feel indestructable. Update: 1/28 - My son loves this thing. He plays games and music on it every day. The battery life seems very good, but it runs in airplane mode with wifi only, so I do not know what it would be like on a cellular network. When he goes out with me I turn on the wifi on my cell so he can connect and have his VOIP phone. He has loaded it up with music (I put in a 16GB microSD card) and he has put over a dozen games on it as well. No regrets on this purchase. Update 4/29 - Power button broke. You need to hit the power button to wake up the phone. It is supposed to have a 1 yr warranty. My son is going to try customer service today. Up until now he has loved this phone and loaded many more programs on it. I will report what customer service says. Update 5/17 - Sent us a brand new phone. Took a couple weeks, but happy with the replacement. ... show more

  • Durable, affordable, a construction girl's best friend
If you need a reasonably smartphone but durability is your number 1 concern this is the phone. If you work in construction, this is the phone for you. This is my second Hydro. I bought another one because it is a durable smartphone. I've owned a Hydro since Fall 2012 and honestly hope I can keep using this phone until another plastic screen phone comes out there. The new Hydros have glass screens. I'm an engineer and I work in construction. This phone has been dropped off an air handler unit into a puddle...on a roof and still worked. It got slammed in a truck door and the only thing that happened was the power button got a little smashed. It still worked fine, had to use a pen or something to turn it on, etc which is why I replaced it. I've never had any problem with the audio quality of listening to music or calls on speaker phone. It's not the fastest phone in the world in terms of apps, but I'm able to use streaming music (Spotify) and play a few simple games. The GPS is great though I live in a city so that may be a bearing. The GPS does drain the battery though so if you are going to be using it all day I'd suggest carrying an extra battery. I have 2 extra batteries, I try to always keep one in my tool bag when I'm in the field. I wasn't looking for a phone to be a mini tablet (I have a tablet for that) or do work on the go (have tablet and a laptop). I just wanted a phone that I could use for GPS, phone calls, streaming music and games to bide time on the bus. It can get a little slow if you run too many apps and some apps are just too big (Pinterest I'm looking at you) but I just use those apps on my tablet. I will say that this is my first and the only smartphone I've ever owned. The main reason I avoided buying a smartphone for so long was I'd see my co-workers and crew with those cracked screens after spending 100s of dollars and I just didn't want to have to deal with that or buying some super expensive phone case. ... show more

  • Not bad for a touch screen
The water proof feature is what was the deciding factor on purchasing this phone, plus the low price. I've dunked a couple phones in water before, totally ruining them & when I saw this one, it was ideal for me. Accidents do happen, so this is a just in case... Eco mode is great to conserve battery space (without it I have to plug in at least 2 times or else battery will die fast) I text & facebook often throughout the day & have a few apps installed. Sound quality on calls is great. The screen has a nice resolution for a prepaid phone. Music player installed (great bonus) Headphone jack on top. For some reason this phone has a better signal than my other Boost mobile phone did. (another great plus) This phone really did exceed my expectations considering the low price & it being a prepaid phone (contract phones are usually nicer). Honestly I do wish to have left my contract sooner (6 yrs being on contract with Sprint) and gone to Boost Mobile sooner! The monthly rates with Shrinkage are awesome & this phone is priced so well to be a great phone. I am a text, social networking, sometimes calling, love the new technology person & I must say that I am happy with this phone. My only complaint is the battery life is short for texting & social networking, otherwise it holds up well to phone calls (in eco mode) Great phone. Price can't be beat. Love the fact that it didn't come with all the annoying apps pre installed that take up space. ... show more
