  • Good ergonomics and user interface; it's a keeper
Model: 301-2
Pros: • Has a large display (larger than most digital calipers) • Has a good user interface and ergonomics • Can display Fractions (along with mm & decimal inches options) • Slides well, has a micro adjust wheel, and a lockdown pin on top • Uses commonly available CR2032 cell • Nice enough case (for what it is; cheap hinge may not hold up over time, however) • Two extra coin cells provided, and a mini guitar pick to aid in opening cell carrier compartment Cons: • Units are displayed to the left of the number • Somewhat heavy, given its metal construction For decades i've been using a plastic, Swiss made, General brand, dial analog caliper. It gets a lot of use, i treat it well, and it has held up well. I use it all the time to determine what size drill bit to use. It's lightweight, and i like that. I decided it was time to get a fractional digital caliper, to streamline my measurements. I have a non-fractional Harbor Freight digital caliper which i rarely use because it uses button cells (which i never seem to have on hand). I wanted a caliper that uses a CR2032 coin cell, and does fractions. It may seem like a small thing, but i really like that this has a dedicated Zero button (placed at the top, where it's unlikely to be hit accidentally), and the power button powers it off immediately. The power button is well placed too; i've never turned it off accidentally. But it's a simple matter to turn it back on, and be immediately back in business. Proper design; what a joy! I recently used another caliper which combined Zero and Power into a single button, and did it in the worst possible way (i.e. you had to long-press to turn it off). I like the three button design of this caliper much better, and like that it turns off immediately when you hit the power button. The large display is quite nice, and one reason i chose this model over the competition. The aforementioned competing caliper also had a large display, but this Kynup displays fractions more boldly, and this caliper's use of smaller numerals for less significant digits actually improves readability compared to the other one (see photos). A minor design flaw of this unit is its somewhat unnatural display of the units on the left side of the numbers. The photos below show the other caliper, and this Kynup below it. (The maroon tinge on the display is an artifact of the camera and natural sunlight. Both display backgrounds, in real life, look like the Kynup's in these photos.) ... show more

  • Would buy again
Model: 01-306-2
Works great and easy to use. Like that I can replace the batteries instead of having to buy a new one when they die. Good quality as well and great value for the money and very accurate

  • Worth it
Model: 301-2
For the price, these are worth it. I use these for work and while I have access to much pricier options, these calipers seem to work well. Our equipment goes through calibration twice a year and so far, they've passed with flying colors. For a hobbyist, these seem to be a great option; much better than some of the crappy Chinese options that are out there. I love that it uses a basic 2032 battery instead of the 357 button battery. My only complaint is the storage case. One of the latches does not work at all and is basically just there for moral support or aesthetics, it will not stay latched. ... show more

  • Great product, probably better than most homeowners need.
Model: 301-2
So nice compared to my prior 'economical' version. Accurate and repeatable measurements.

  • Very nice quality
Model: 301-2
I ordered this unit and the $40 Stead & Fast unit to replace cheap, crummy ones I had at home. Since I expect many Amazon customers may also be comparing the two, I've included comparison comments as well to help others make pruchasing decisions. I use Mitutoyo and Brown and Sharpe at work. Both of these Amazon units seem have much nicer displays than any of those I have at work and of course those name brand units are far more expensive. Between this Kynup unit and the Stead & Fast one, this one is the nicest of the bunch with the largest and best looking display. This unit has the buttons on the bottom of the display housing which I prefer but that is just a preference. Both had metal display housings and battery trays which I would expect will be more durable than the typical plastic ones. The case with the Stead and Fast unit was tigher fitting and had rubber inserts/bumpers which should help protect the calipers better than the less conforming molded one this came with but if not carrying it around a bunch, either should be fine. The latches also feel more likely to last on the Stead and Fast unit. I don't have access to calibration standards anymore but but of these agreed withing .0005" with the two calibrated units I ahve at work. For home that's plenty good enough. Both were very repeatable. The work unit motion is a little smoother than either of these but these are fine and equal to each other. That aside, these appear to be far nicer than the expensive work units. Also both of these use lithium batteries compared to alakaline so would expect them to last longer. ... show more

  • accurate, easy to read, but a little bulky
Model: 301-2
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I'm between three and four stars for this tool. It comes in a nice case and includes 2 extra batteries. The finish is good with the tips on both sides meeting nicely. The caliper will measure up to a 6 inch range. The best feature is the the display. Reading the display is easy with big clear numbers. It has returned to 0 every time. For a hobbyist, it's very good. Compared to my dial caliper, it's very heavy with a bulky housing for the display and battery. It's actually heavier than my nice 8 inch dial caliper and most of the weight is in the head, so it feels unbalanced. Think of picking up a hammer weight distribution. Some of the bulk of the display comes from stacking the battery and the LCD which is unavoidable, but I don't understand where all of the weight comes from. The buttons work well, but I think this is where trouble will happen in the future. The depth probe is a little delicate and I worry that I'll bend it by accident. I just wished that they had put a little of the bulk into the depth gauge and a made the display a little thinner and lighter. ... show more
