Description

When we started Kuju, we chose our coffee before ever tasting it. You read that right. And we did it because we believed in our hearts it was the right thing to do - to use what we call our “moral tastebuds”. So the beans we roast and pack into our single-serve pour overs help support the livelihoods of the men and women that help grow our coffee. When you drink Kuju Coffee, you’re not only drinking quality specialty-grade coffee, you’re also supporting a meaningful cause that we can all rally around. Kuju Coffee is a member of 1% for the Planet, meaning we donate 1% of all sales to environmental causes. For us, we donate to help protect the places we play – National Parks. Each single-serve pour over is filled with specialty-grade, ethically sourced coffee so you never have to sacrifice the quality of your coffee. Simply anchor to any size mug, pour hot water over the grounds and your coffee will brew directly into the mug. Whether you like a dark, bold cup of coffee or a more floral African coffee, we have something you'll love for any coffee occasion. Choose from Bold Awakening, Basecamp Blend or Angels Landing from our Ethically Sourced Collection or Ethiopia, Papua New Guinea or West Sumatra from our Fair-Trade, Organic Premium Single Origin Collection.

  • Great alternative when you can’t brew your own, but comes at a cost.
Flavor Name: Basecamp Blend Size: 0.5 Ounce (Pack of 10)
Bottom line up front: I’m a fan and I’ll be ordering this again. I’ve been looking for something like this forever. In Asia Starbucks offers a similar single cup pourover prouduct called Origami but I haven’t been able to find it in the US. I’ve tried everyhing from instant coffee to Starbucks Via but nothing really comes close to the real thing. I resigned myself to bringing a small french press with me when I travel, until I found Kuju. Pros: freshness, flavor, design, volume per cupo The quality and freshness are great and the design makes it very easy to use. I actually prefer the design of Kuju over the Starbucks Oragami pour over for two reasons. The first is the way it sits on top of the glass. It fits my wide or narrow mouth glasses equally well and fits snugly onto the glass. The second is that the filter pouch is sealed with a perferated tear-off edge. The Starbucks design kind of pops open all at once so I ended up spilling grounds while trying to set up the filter to sit on top of the glass. I really enjoy the taste. I ordered a medium roast and it was well balanced and fit the taste profile. The instructions say to use 8 oz per pour. I’m a big coffee drinker and 8 oz doesn’t cut it for me. Due to the cost per cup, I’ve been reluctant to use multiple packages and just started using more water per pour. I like strong coffee and the boldness of the coffee was sufficient to deliver enough taste despite me using more than the recommended amount of water per cup. Cons: cost At just over $2 per cup, it’s a little more than I preferred to spend. Granted, I’m not using this daily and it’s really for when I don’t have my regular options. That said, I like to drink about 2 cups per day and I cringe a little knowing how much it’s costing me. Again, exception not the norm. ... show more

  • Barista Quality On-The-Go
Flavor Name: Basecamp Blend Size: 0.5 Ounce (Pack of 10)
Kuju is bold in trying to be innovative / disrupt the space especially when coffee is a commoditized product that you find everywhere you go. As a frequent traveler (business and leisure), I love throwing a few of these specialty-grade, single-serve packets into my suit case. As an individual always on the hunt for new products that help make life easier / better, Kuju coffee strikes the intersection of quality, ease, and convenience. Below is some additional food for thought: - Packaging: I was afraid the pouch might break with the back and forth of everything in my suitcase. I’m glad to say that so far the quality of the packaging has been rock solid and has preserved the freshness Kuju promises - Making a cup of Joe: The pour over apparatus easily slips on and hugs the edges of any basic cup / mug you already have. As you pour hot water over the coffee grounds, the mechanism simply works and is more time efficient than I anticipated. Within a minute or two, you’ve got yourself a quality cup of Joe that you'd find at your eclectic coffee shop around the block; thank god the days of burnt, watered-down coffee no longer need to exist (hint hint - hotel rooms) All in all, this is a versatile product for today's times; it’s one that I use even with the hustle and bustle of traveling as well as one that delivers joy when I’m soaking in the sun on a Saturday morning hike. ... show more

  • robust and good taste, makes more coffee tha most similar product
Flavor Name: Basecamp Blend Size: 0.5 Ounce (Pack of 6)
One of the few non-Vietnamese coffee style products of this type, and in my opinion, one of the few that taste good (personal preference there). But the objective review is that these have more coffee in them than most similar single serve drip coffee products, so rather than the usual 5 oz of water, this calls for 8 oz and is plenty strong. This one and its other variations are robust with no acidity. Just note that this medium roast is like a dark roast (and their light roast is practically a medium roast, and their dark roast is VERY dark roast) ... show more

  • GREAT STUFF and here's a rundown on its competition
Flavor Name: Basecamp Blend Size: 0.5 Ounce (Pack of 10)
I've now tried competing single-portion pour-over coffees from Copper Cow, Tribo, Twin Peaks, Kuju, and Casa (sold in local retail). Comparison follows. Kuju "Basecamp blend - Medium Roast" is at or near the top for sheer coffee flavor. I often drink coffees with milk, but some have such beautiful balance and complexity that the flavor seems wasted (blunted) by milk; those go particularly well with or after food. Kuju is one, surpassing my former #1 "good black" brand (Tribo "Guatamalan"). Both are expensive at $2 per serving in 10-packs (Tribo recently increased from $1.60; Copper Cow is even pricier, but includes condensed-milk packet for the Vietnamese serving style.) Tribo, another top-quality brand, sells several regional and blend coffees in pour-over format; trying a few assortments led to preferring Tribo's Guatamalan just mentioned. Another complex floral medium roast, "good black." [[ASIN: B07GD1XJSN Tribo Guatamalan Coffee Pouches]] Copper Cow has slightly longer Amazon history than Kuju and, like Kuju, is promoted to outdoor enthusiasts (the Backpacker's Pantry camping-food firm sells Copper Cow in ruggedized 2-serving packs). At $3 per serving it's a "luxury" brand; it's also a unique experience with the intense savory Vietnamese-grown coffee and the included condensed-milk ration. Full review: https://www.amazon.com/review/R3EBS22BEXFCBX Twin Peaks, like Tribo, markets several differently-sourced pour-over coffees and is my everyday, value brand for this genre at 60 cents a portion in 10-packs. After trying several of its varieties I prefer Costa Rican and Colombian. (Sometimes black, sometimes w/milk.) [[ASIN: B0777RWW96 Twin Peaks Costa Rican Coffee Pouches]] Casa (bought at local "Ranch 99" Chinese-themed supermarket; like many of these products it's assembled in Taiwan, apparently the center for pour-over pouch manufacturing) also offers different regional coffees. They were inexpensive and not bad; but with the competition above, I'd call it a commodity brand and I haven't re-purchased any. ... show more

  • My new favorite camping coffee!
Flavor Name: Basecamp Blend Size: 0.5 Ounce (Pack of 6)
Was skeptical of these coffee bags at first, but I was pleasantly surprised! Easy to use, and a pretty good cup of coffee, the only thing that was slightly annoying was how small the opening was to pour the water to brew.

  • Fantastic coffee for camping or at home!
Flavor Name: Basecamp Blend Size: 0.5 Ounce (Pack of 10)
I bought a big pack to bring for a camping trip this month. My friends and I are all avid coffee drinkers and we had been searching for a good coffee to bring on trips. I first came across Kuju when I was browsing REI and the associate had recommended it as one of their hit coffee products. I bought a single pour-over to try it and WOW - it was a game changer. Immediately, I searched for Kuju online and found the big pack on Amazon. Not only is the coffee super easy to use (just slip it over a mug and pour water), the quality was also amazing, extremely smooth and had fantastic flavors. All my friends on the trip couldn't get enough of it and it was something we looked forward to each morning! We didn't end up using the entire pack on our trip so I brought it home and have been drinking Kuju coffee every morning despite a coffee shop being right around the corner. The pour overs are super affordable, convenient and best of all tasty! 10/10 would recommend! Looking forward to trying the other blends that Kuju offers :) ... show more

  • My new camp coffee!
Flavor Name: Basecamp Blend Size: 0.5 Ounce (Pack of 10)
Great flavor! I drink my good coffee black & this coffee is amazing. Boiled some water as soon as it arrived, definitely going to enjoy this when camping! No more cowboy coffee grinds at the bottom of the cup. As with a drip coffee from a café, the water takes a minute or 2 to fill up your cup, but boy was it worth it. Will be buying more medium roast Basecamp blend! Considering the individualy wrapped, unique pour-over filter design and the quality of coffee; i would say the price is fair* considering the objective purpose: a quality, single-serve coffee packet for when you're not at home. *if giant coffee corporations paid a fair wage for their product, we wouldn't be having this price comparison. My parents raised me to be aware of where my money's going and who's doing what with it... Unfortunately this systemic disparity makes me acknowledge that in today's economy this is truly a luxury cup of coffee resulting in 4 of 5 stars for price. Still highly recommended for THOSE days (camping, power outage, emergency preps, bug out bag coffee, or just for a local prehike coffee)... ... show more

  • Good coffee, bag system is flawed, much better than instant. Not good in wind or with thick mugs.
Flavor Name: Basecamp Blend Size: 0.5 Ounce (Pack of 6)
Neato Torpedo, but testing at home, the teabag does not stay well on a thicker ceramic mug, sunk a few bags. Wouldn't want to be brewing this on Denali. Needs some reengineering. Only enough Joes for one good strong 8 OZ Cup IMO 12 would be pushing it. Would work better in a thin metal cup or maybe something silicone????? No bueno having a slip and slide sitch on the AT Or PCT or even an ultralight overnight. I would soooo cry if I ruined my only coffee before the AM BM. ... show more
