I bought these after trying to rewire a trailer- replacing all of the lights. I started and got about halfway through and got sick of soldering and then using heat shrink tubes etc to join wires. I saw this product as my brother had a kit of these and it literally takes 20 seconds to not only connect wires but also watertight seal them. So far so good and my trailer is working like a charm. The first half of the trailer took me 1.5 hours, and then second half took around 15 minutes- it makes it so simple. I also installed a new car stereo in my daughter's vehicle and these were versatile enough that I could find connectors that were much smaller than what I used on the trailer wiring. I was able to join many different wires in minutes, and I am confident that it will stay joined better than the twist connectors I always used previously. You can either use these with a heatgun or a targeted lighted- but basically you have to get it hot enough to melt the solder in the middle of the connector- when that melts it creates a seal, and then the outer plastic tub shrinks to create a nice seal (also cosmetically pleasing- much more than the twist connectors.) I have seriouslly loved having these around and plan to use them consistently on my audio projects or low voltage projects in the future! ... show more

I've used this kit a few times already and I'm impressed. I would recommend using a heat gun instead of open flame to shrink the connectors. As hot air is more precise than a flame, in my opinion. The connectors provide a solid connection if properly done. Also I added an outer layer of heat shrink tubing with adhesive for additional protection, over the joint. These make putting two ends of a wire together so easy. Just insert each end to where they meet in the middle inside by the metal part and then crimp. Next step is to heat up the ends and they seal around the cable to secure the connection further. Love these. Now I don’t have to always solder.

    • Fast and effective way to achieve reliable waterproof connections.

Although the instructions recommend using a hot air blower with a curved deflector on the end to concentrate heat on these spices, I use a tiny butane torch. It's fast, but it's also easy to quickly overheat the plastic and burn it. Learning how far to keep the butane heat away from the splice is simply a matter of practice. I like the spices this makes, and I like the fact that it has built in shrink wrapping on both sides to keep water out. I've used this for making Fast electrical spices in my boat when adding or replacing accessories. By itself it's nothing, but once you add an appropriate hot air heating source to focus on the spices and melt the solder and cause the heat shrink to retract, you've got a great product. ... show more

I used to use butt connectors but theyre a pain to use and occasionally would pull apart. These work SO GOOD compared to butt connectors. I did a couple test wires to start with and no matter how hard i tried i couldnt pull them apart. Ordered these after having seen another similar name brand version on a commercial. I haven't tried the more expensive name brand version so I have no basis for comparison, but I think perhaps the concept is better than this actual product. Some of the connectors worked okay, but around half of them so far have failed during installation. I tried using different sources of heat to activate the solder & heat shrink and what seems to happen around half the time is that the heatshrink plastic winds up melting before the solder inside reacts as intended. ... show more

These are incredible. I have used these now for multiple applications, from a car to sprinkler wires to vending machines. Just carry a heat gun and short extension cord for most places and you're set. You do strip the wires farther than you usually would with a crimp. The only thing I will say somewhat as a warning is that they work way better with stranded wire than solid wire. I have had a couple instances where solid wire pokes a hole in the coupler and I have to start over. Other than that, these are easy to use, guarantee a solid connection, go waterproof, and make it so that the connection isn't a massive piece of plastic that you will be able to see even under shrinkwrap. If you cover the wire with shrinkwrap afterwards, you won't even notice that there is a splice in the wire ... show more
