I had never placed concealed hinges before. The Kreg jig made this a breeze. Some reviews report that the wood gathers and will not expel. Well, the trick is to keep moving the piece up and then back down, this expells the wood shavings. We decided to refresh our kitchen. Part of this, we wanted to switch our hinges to be concealed ones. At first we weren't sure if this was even doable since we needed to have that hole for the hinge to go to and I wasn't about to go measuring and trying to make sure the drill bit doesn't go through the cabinet. Upon research, we found that Kreg (which we've seen promoted so much by a bunch of DIY'ers) has a jig that will do just what we needed. So we bought the hinges and this jig. The settings are fairly simple to use as long as you know the hinge dimensions from the manufacturer. Luckily this was easily provided in great detail and gave the offsets we needed to input into the Kreg jig. The jig instructions actually has multiple ways to calculate offsets since not all manufacturers provided it in the same way. Our hinges were 20.5mm from the center so we rounded it to 21mm which is the lowest offset at 3. The hinge manufacturer also recommended 3.5" from the edge to the center to drill the hole. I'm sure we could have modded this to what we felt like setting it to, but decided to go with the given specification. Once all those settings were known, I was able to knock out and drill all cabinet doors in about an hour or so. The longest part was putting and removing the clamps. It would have been quicker if I had vice clamps. I definitely would recommend this and seems like Kreg makes a lot of very useful items for doing woodworking DIY. ... show more

I was going to build several cabinet doors to replace the ones in my Son's kitchen and I wanted to use concealed pocket hinges. I had never used pocket hinges before. After reading how to make the holes and how exact you needed to be in placement of the holes, fear started to take over. After researching, I found there were several jigs that you could buy to make the job a piece of cake. I have several other Kreg jigs and I am pleased with the quality and ease of use of them so I decided to spend a little more money and purchase this one. I am pleased to say that it work perfectly and I was able to get all the door holes drilled out and the hinges in place with perfect alignment. The unit comes with instructions on how to set the jig based on the hinge manufacturer's recommendations for placement. This was very easy to do; if the hinge company does in fact provide instructions for this. If they don't, then you are going to have to do some trial and error on some scrap wood in order to find the exact spacing for the holes. The only issue I have with this unit is that Kreg uses a proprietary sized shank for the 35mm Forstner bit. So you can't just use an off the shelf 35mm Forstner bit when this one wears out. You have to buy a Kreg bit. Also, this has a depth-stop collet that uses a set screw to hold it in place. Somewhere during the time I was using the bit, the screw must have worked itself out and I lost it. I had to find a compatible sized screw and cut it to length to use as the set screw and this works. If you find that you have to do this, make sure that the screw is cut short so it doesn't extend past the collet as the weight of the screw outside the collet boundry will cause the bit to become unbalanced and wobble when drilling. ... show more

I made a some custom size doors for my Ikea Besta tv unit and needed a way to add soft close hinges. The Kreg jig worked great and even includes the drill bit. The whole setup is intuitive and easy to use. The large hole for the hinge and two for the screws lined up perfectly. It screwed into the cabinets without issue. Really easy to setup and use. Makes drilling a lot simpler and streamlined. While longevity is a concern due to lack of metal sleeves for drill bits, for its price the value is unmatched. Great tool to have for cabinet making.
