I LOVE these chains!! I got stuck in the snow today (was not expecting to find snow on the rural road I was on), and I was able to slip these puppies on and get back on the road in no time! I won't lie - at first I panicked, then I remembered I had the chains in the trunk (they fit in the spare tire so I ALWAYS have them with me), watched some (unhelpful) YouTube videos, and gave it a go. The instructions that come with these are so clear! No words necessary! They're just pictures and so much more helpful than watching someone else do it. I chose these because I wanted old-school chains rather than wimpy-ass cables. I was a little disappointed to discover that the chain itself is more doll-size than like the full-size chains I remember from the old days. But a pleasant surprise relative to the old days, is the self-tensioning. Per years of habit I got out of the car after the first few hundred feet to snug up. But when I did that I only discovered that THEY HAD SNUGGED THEMSELVES UP. The self-tensioning mechanism really works! Amazing. Besides the chain itself being doll-size, a surprising amount of the chainset is made out of plastic - this was surprising given the price. And sure enough, I managed to run over one of the tensioners in the process of taking them off. Though there is plenty of visible damage to the plastic body of the tensioner, it does still work just fine. And after our first snow & ice this winter, including some driving on bare pavement, the chain links are holding up well -- in fact I can't really see much of any wear at all. So apparently they used good materials where it really mattered. ... show more
