This is our second alligator by Kong. It was the first toy we picked up for our our Aussie/Border rescue dog and we still have it but it is crusty. I decided to get another that was in better shape. They are pretty durable and can take a lot of pulling and tug games. It has outlasted many other toys and isn't so hard that if you trip on it there is no need to scream out in pain. We love Ali the Alligator.

First off, be aware that if your dog wants a stuff toy opened up, s/he will succeed. We have two schipperke pups and one older heffalump that play with these daily. They all get split open eventually, some faster than others and I just finished stitching back up a pile of them. Each toy has its ups and downs, but I've made a list of what I've gotten and my opinion on them. Gator - By far the favorite of the dogs and longest lasting. We have two of these. Rabbit - This one lasted an evening. We immediately cut off the whiskers, these just don't belong on a dog toy. If you cut one end, they should pull completely through. The pups went straight for the cotton tail and then ripped it open further. Rhino - Lasted a fair amount of time, but the horn got chewed immediately (our pups like focal points). After a patch job, it's now a purple hippo and seems to be better off that way. Blue Dog - Did not last long as the stitching on the back came undone, but after sewing it back up it seems to be lasting. Pink Elephant - The tusks have been chewed apart, but it hasn't needed stitching yet. Moose - Part of an antler had to be amputated, but it's fairing well after that. Lion - The pup's second cozie. A break in the face (dog damage) had to be patched up and much of the mane is plucked out. I don't really care for it due to the tufts of fur that the dogs keep plucking from it. Cow - The pups first toy we got them. Again I have issues with the tufts of fur, but they aren't as bad about it as with the lion. Monkey - They really enjoy this toy nearly as much as the gator. This one like the cow and the lion has a tuft of long fur on the head (but only the head). I would love to be able to get another cow and monkey without the tufts. At the $5 mark I don't mind tossing a couple in the basket now and then when I'm making an order, but I wouldn't pay much above that for these.

My bloodhound absolutely loves this toy. As far as durability goes, he had it torn apart within two weeks. That's better than some toys he has had, but not as long as I would like.

My dog (Erebus) absolutely loves this toy. He is a 1 1/2 year old lab (75lbs) and usually destroys any stuffed toy within a few hours, but he is far more gentle with Gator and brings him everywhere he goes. I work from home and Erebus brings Gator out when he first wakes up, naps with it while I work, and takes it to bed with him. I have to take it away from him when he goes outside so it doesn't get muddy and dirty. Even though he is more careful with this toy, it still gets plenty of play. We got the first as a Christmas present and nearly 4 months later (daily toss & fetch) still doesn't have a single tear. The squeaker JUST broke last week, so I bought two more as backups (he still loves the old one without the squeaker), nervous they might be discontinued. This toy is high quality, feels durable, and has a stronger fabric than most, but isn't indestructible. I think most medium-large sized dogs would get plenty of use out of this, but if your pup is known for aggressively shredding toys this /might/ not be the one for you.

I bought this for my puppy a few months ago. She is my little trash can and thinks it’s fun to destroy her toys. But the little alligator is hanging in there! It is her favorite toy and is worth the price.
