There are 4 holes on the top of the dowel jig, 2 of the holes are threaded to take the the included 6 bushings of different diameters, which are 1/4", 5/16"and 3/8". The other 2 holes without threads (7/16", 1/2") can be used directly to drill, no bushings needed.

The jig made dowelling a wide shelf out of two narrower planks easy. The only issue was sawdust wanting to remain in the hole. If you reverse your drill, the sawdust is left behind and interferes with the dowel height. I found it better to continue running the drill in forward while carefully drawing the bit out. That drags out most of the sawdust with the bit, and you're ready to glue and dowel the holes.

I used this jig for doweling mahagony boards together; drilled 28 holes in all. I found that for the majority of the holes, the jig did indeed self center the guide hole. For a few I used a tapered shim stick to adjust, but it was only off by a few thousandths. The drill and collar were fine. I'd suggest that scribe marks designating the center line of each hole for on the jig be scribed beneath the hole by the two "windows" on the front of the jig. The windows allow you to see your own position line, but there's no way to line that up with the center of the jig's hole. I had to position the jig and then peer down the hole to my mark on the wood to see if it was centered. That method worked, but it was fussy and time consuming. This won't work well if you're drilling a lot of holes.

It is about 1/32nd off center. It will work if you pay attention but if you flip the jig the dowels won’t line up.

It's everything they claim. I've only used it a few times but it does the truck. It makes jobs I used to recoil from seem doable. Previously if I needed to dowel something that needed to be perfectly in line it had to be something that I could drill straight through, leaving an exposed dowel end and needing refinishing. But with this, I can count on having an accurate measurement so I can use blind holes for dowels.

I'd been looking to get a dowel centering jig for a while but just never got around to it. Had a simple project at home for repairing some outdoor chair tables and dowels were the way to go about it. Got this one to tackle the project and it worked perfectly. When I received the box, it was well packaged and has a nice foam insert to keep it from getting banged up during shipment. the box is cardboard but sturdy enough to keep the jig in when not in use. It comes with three pairs of different sized drill bit guides as well as three different size drill bits. There are also drill bit stop collars that come with the kit to let you set your depth of drilling. I was able to get center holes right off the bat on the broken pieces of table top and once drilled, doweled, glued and clamped together, the table top is as good as new and looks like it was never broken. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. It even comes with an Allen wrench to tighten the set screw on the collar. If I had to give it a negative, it would be that the tightening screw is a little stiff but I'm going to assume that it will loosen up a little over time. It would have been nice to have a small mix of dowels included with the jig but dowels are cheap enough to get or even easy enough to make your own. I would definitely recommend.

I have recently been interested in building some furniture as a hobby and had to try this. I used this dowel jig on few holes and it is pretty accurate. Setup is easy and there are included instructions. The jig is made well and sturdy. For my needs as an amateur this work well.
