  • Some installation details to consider. Very satisfied with product.
Color: White Size: 36 Inch Style: Single Bowl with Short Apron
Update: I've had this for two years now. Still as good as new. No chips. Cleans easily with Bar Keeper's Friend. Much better than a sink with a divider. Need Plumbing Supplies was great--arrived by freight delivery. Installed without a problem into an existing 36" cabinet and no alterations to the doors. Just needed to remove the upper faux drawers and disassemble the surrounding frame (Note that we did not need to cut the cabinet, as the frame surrounding the "drawers" can be unscrewed. FYI, I was unable to find any other manufacturer who sells a short apron farmhouse sink, so it seems this may be your only option if you don't want to modify your cabinet doors. I did notice that while cleaning a pan that rubbing it against the walls did leave scuff marks that I buffed out. It is certainly a good idea to buy the Kohler racks for the floor of this sink to prevent damage, despite the lifetime warranty. As an undermount sink, you would have to pull up the counter tops just to remove this, so I'm not compelled to test Kohler on their warranty if I can avoid it. The counter person drilled the faucet hole about 1/4" off center of the Kohler logo on the back wall of the sink, but centered on the counter opening. It is something to think about when you are approving where to drill your faucet hole. They also drilled too close to the sink edge, but drilled instead to standard distance, so I imagine the lip on the sink is larger than typical. Had to install a shank extender to mount to faucet since the faucet nut could not be screwed to the underside of the countertop since the sink was in the way. Thank goodness the third person I spoke with at HD knew what to recommend to solve the problem, as I was scrambling on a late Saturday afternoon for a solution, and all the plumbing specialty supply stores were closed. What was most helpful was taking photos of the installation and layout under the cabinet, as it was difficult to convey exactly what the problem was to various people otherwise. A shank extender is basically a plastic cylinder which is narrow enough to fit between the hole and the sink edge. I had to use a tool to slice it lengthwise to open it slightly and fit around the faucet threads, but it provided the needed extension to give the nut a stable flat edge to secure, in my case, a very large and tall faucet. If you do the plumbing yourself, be sure to plan on getting plumbers putty for the flange which you'll need to buy. I like the Kohler flange since the Kohler lettering is subtle and not overbearing like the In Sink Erator flanges. You can find a couple of really good youtube videos which will show you how to use plumbers putty. The hardest part about installation was getting the garbage disposal remounted, and I used a dremel tool to smooth out the mounting ring, which was a little rusty and made it impossible to mount otherwise. It is very difficult to mount the disposal without the tool that presumably comes with a new disposal. Alternatively, consider buying a new set of mounting bracket rings, or even a new disposal. In retrospect, I would suggest hiring a plumber to reconnect everything after the countertop people do their thing. While I learned a lot about the plumbing, I this was a very time consuming and stressful task that a skilled plumber probably would have been equipped to deal with. Because the sink hole was to the right of the hole in the sink it replaced, I needed to buy and cut pipes from HD, as that flexible plumbing drain kit I bought here did not work well for height reasons. Also, since there are different suppliers here, you will want to ensure you buy from an authorized Kohler reseller if you want that mfr warranty. The Kohler website does not have a page listing authorized online resellers, but Need Plumbing, build.com, and maybe some others (can't remember which) were confirmed to be authorized by a Kohler customer service rep. Unless they create a listing on their website, I'd suggest calling their 800 number to verify whatever reseller you would like to use. The sink is not really more than an inch wider than the sink it replaced, but the white color, the lack of divider, and the greater front to back length really makes this seem much larger. Paired this with a large Ruvati faucet and it looks quite impressive together. ... show more

  • No SINKing feeling. Just Happy-Happy,Joy-Joy!!!!!
Color: White Size: 30 Inch Style: Single Bowl with Tall Apron
OK, Amazon; You are due a Review!!! I bought this sink in November, the first purchase in what has been a 5 month re-model, and it just went in last week. Until then, except for a quick inspection for damage when it arrived, it has sat in the garage. Only now can I write a review. “STUNNING!” Which is what I expected from KOHLER, but I mean REALLY stunning! First, it’s a True White; no blue, green, bone or gold cast, which some whites have. It has that Kohler glow to it under light, and I even love their logo plate. But what hooked me on this model was the self-trimming Apron front. Workmanship is NOT always what it should be and I knew this style would hide any cutting sins from my installers, and it does. It gives a remarkable and finished look to the entire sink area. It has that substantial “ring” when you knock on it that only enamel-over-iron does, and though I worried about buying the 30” for my small kitchen, and whether it would be large enough, it absolutely is! (BTW: look on Amazon for the silicon roll-up dish drainer racks. BRILLIANT!) A tip if you buy this: A few reviewers say it isn’t necessary as this is NOT the heaviest Farm sink made, BUT! still, I had my crew add a 2x4 support underneath, mid-way along the front-to-back depth of both sides. With over 170# to the sink, and water and contents weight putting it over 200# pounds, it made no sense to me to overload the cabinet frames. The lumber is not stunning admittedly, but I had them go fast and dirty, and I will add paint to the lumber soon. It takes up very little space and gives me huge peace of mind. ALSO, do be sure to follow industry recommendations on the length of your faucet to be sure it can swing to the side and end up above or very close to the sink drain. I don’t like the look of counter sprayers but opted for a pull out sprayer in my streamlined (but vintage looking; go figure!) Venetian Bronze faucet and am very happy I made that decision. I can ignore it, which I will do most of the time, but it will stretch to the full 30” width of the sink when I need it to. INSTALLATION TIP: This is an under-mount installation, and my Granite cutter was marvelous. We crafted a beautiful curved line to the front interior edge of the granite, and it echoes the interior curve of the sink corners, and the return curve on the self-trimming Apron. The entire result is elegant, artful, and practical as all water can be easily sponged toward the sink basin! Sorry, no photo to share yet… ' This was an Amazon Marketplace purchase from Build.com, and there were a few necessary conversations about shipping issues, BUT! It was a slight shipping glitch; NOT Amazon’s fault, and Build.com came through. They were responsive and HONEST, as my sink was discounted as a “USED” item since the box had been opened for a visual demo at their end. They insured me it was in flawless condition (it is), and in buying through Amazon I knew I had their backing as well. All in all I will grant all 5 stars to this transaction, because Amazon does not deserve a reduction, though I’d make it a 4 if I was judging on Build.com’s shipping alone. However I have purchased other things from Build.com and this was the first problem, and it was the shipping group’s fault. I talked to Build.com during the delay, they kept me informed, and they assured me they would deal with it. They did; and they have informed me that they no longer use that transporter. In the end, everyone stepped up. I have not yet once been disappointed by Amazon or their marketplace vendors. Even in an instance that it was PURELY my error in ordering an item not to California’s strict new energy codes, they graciously refunded my purchase with no fuss. LOVE AMAZON! And I LOVE my Kohler Apron Sink! 5 STARS for this transaction! ... show more

  • Perfect Fit, Great Look, Vague Instructions
Color: White Size: 30 Inch Style: Single Bowl with Short Apron
I am so glad that I gave in to my wife's wishes to install an apron front sink, and even more glad that I chose this one. This fits perfectly in a standard base cabinet. The width measurements match perfectly: if you have a 36 inch base cabinet you want the 36 inch sink; 33 inch base calls for 33 inch sink; and 30 to 30. This is important, because you will get conflicting information on this from both reviews and some more general installation videos out there. I was VERY timid about cutting out the face of the cabinet, and, frankly, my first cut looked like it had been done by a 3-year-old. Happily, I discovered that the lip of the apron front extends precisely to the sides the cabinet, thus covering my amateurish work. And it completely covers where the holes for the false drawers were. The short apron is made for standard, contemporary base cabinets--such as ours, with double false drawers on the front. Double-check the height from the top of the cabinet to the top of the cabinet doors to be sure that there is room for them to swing open under the apron. Installation calls for some modification of your cabinet. I'll spare details here, but there is an excellent 4 minute video right here. It makes the whole thing much more intuitive so that you understand the necessity of each step: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP7vOx1ZCHE (Or you'll find it by Googling 'Kohler Apron Front Sink Installation.") [LATER EDIT: The video does not mention taping the template to the front and tracing it out (I had forgotten about that). And, frankly, though I did trace the template and cut out the rest of the front, there was very little left to cut. I wondered whether it was really necessary. I'll leave you to be the judge.] The accompanying instructions say nothing about the thickness of the board used for the internal support frame. The video indicates that they must be no thicker than 1 1/4". (Too thick and the sink would not slide in.) The depth of the installed sink--i.e., below the countertop-- is important. Both the accompanying instructions and the video indicated that the horizontal support boards should be 5/8" below the top of the base cabinet. The claim in both sets of instructions is that with the support frame attached at 5/8" below the top of the cabinet, and given the thickness of the flange on the sink, this will leave about 1/16" gap between the top of the sink and the bottom of the countertop. I was METICULOUS in my measurement, making sure that I struck a level line exactly 5/8" down from the cabinet top. But once I installed the sink and then checked its depth below the cabinet, it was significantly more than this. I ended up shimming the sink up a bit to get it closer to the 1/16" down. I hope all of the above paragraph makes sense. The intuitive idea: The countertop goes ON TOP of the sink edges, so the sink has to be down just a bit but not too much--just enough to apply a bead of caulk as a sealer. I found that resting the sink on a frame 5/8" down was just a little TOO far down. No big deal, though, if you find that you need to shim up. I am attaching a few photos that show my (amateur) progress as I worked on the installation. This is a great sink at a great price. Super happy with it. Now if the guys with the granite countertop installation will just show up! ... show more

  • An impressive beast of a sink
Color: White Size: 36 Inch Style: Farmhouse
I himmed and I haaa'd a lot before finally buying this sink. It's expensive, but wow is it impressive once installed. First, it's heavy, about 130 lbs. You aren't moving it on your own. It came on a liftgate box truck from Amazon. I had it shipped to my work because I had a forklift I could use there. The delivery people were delighted that I did this. Install requires a bit of work. You must construct a frame out of 2x4's in the base cabinet this goes in after cutting the hole in the front of the cabinet for the apron. I went through three skill saw blades to get this cut (one was my fault because I tried cutting through a screw I did not know was there using the wood blade. After lots of foul language I was ready to slide this puppy in to place. A friend helped and we were able to heave it up without too much issue. A word of warning, the instructions have you installing the frame such that the sink sits a bit below the countertop level. The countertop installer is having me raise the sink some. We're talking 1/8" of an inch, but I wish I had known before hand. After that I was able to install a 1hp garbage disposer, which barely fit. The location of this in the back corner is great and lets you have very compact plumbing under the sink. To a degree it is almost too compact, but I am glad I have it nice and tight. I also fit a RO water filter and storage tank easily along with some other kitchen cleaning supplies. I find myself knocking on the front of the sink from time to time to hear the sound it makes. The size is great also, I am really liking the one giant tub aspect. I also purchased the wire frame that goes in the bottom, this is worth it as it keeps the enamel in better shape. Cleaning is easy with the Kohler cast iron cleaner. I've been using this for around two months so far and it cleans up to look like it is brand new every time. ... show more

  • Beautiful Addition
Color: White Size: 36 Inch Style: Double Bowl with Short Apron
We picked this sink during a makeover due to the self-trimming feature and it is perfect! We did no cutting on the cabinets and fit perfectly above the bottom doors. I fit will say if you are installing granite with a Moen industrial type faucet, do not use the template that comes with the sink. Or at the very least make sure you get cutout dimensions correct. Our granite installers did not want the spec sheet for the faucet, soap dispenser or glasswasher only the Kolher cutout. The faucet and soap dispenser distance over the sink turned out fine. The soap dispenser could have been a little further over the sink. The glasswasher is not even close! Our work around was to install a sheet of silicone under the lip. The sink is very sturdy and heavy. It sits a little lower or deeper in the cabinet. This is not a problem at all. I get asked if I have to bend over more to do the dishes and no, I do not. I have not put any "sink protectors" in the bottom and so far no problems with pans scaring. The only issue if you can call it that is splashing water and the smaller side of the sink. The splashing may be due to the new industrial faucet. The smaller side, I am not used to. I had a Moen double bowl sink previously and I used the right side for garbage disposal use. I have the garbage disposal on this small side now and it is smaller, making it challenging. Neither one of these are a show stopper and very please with this sink. Would buy it again. ... show more

Color: White Size: 33 Inch Style: Farmhouse
It's taken me well over a year to write this review, but I was finally inspired enough to post something. In May of 2015, the sink arrived with 2 cracks on the top left corner and a lower area (inside) that weren't too terrible. Our counter tops were being custom made around the sink so we decided we could live with the imperfections rather than delay everything (besides, returning this behemoth would not be fun). It looked pretty, all shiny and white, once it was installed. But, over time, that cracks have now become several spiderweb-like cracks with tinges of rust. Another crack formed, too. We don't do gymnastics or carpentry in the sink so it's pretty sad that the cracks form easily. The next issue is rust. I wanted a white sink and my husband caved. Boy do we regret that. This white sink shows all the nastiness that happens in a sink. Sure, clean the sink, but even when you clean it it still doesn't seem clean. Oh, and did I mention that there are rust spots? Are you not supposed to use the sink to do dishes or are you supposed to dry it after using it every time so it doesn't rust? There are also places where the white has rubbed off to form grayish scuff marks. Pretty white sink no more... Today, while cleaning the cabinet under the sink, the cloth touched the base of the sink and 2 slivers of the ceramic fell off revealing the nice, rusted innards. Great! I wonder how long it will take for the rest of the sink to chip off. We regret this sink so much but don't have the $ to hire people to pull up our counter tops and replace it. I look forward to the day when we do because I won't be buying another Kohler sink. (We scrub these cracks you see in the pics...can't get it clean probably because it's rust!) --------------- EDITED 9/19/2016 Kohler contacted us immediately to rectify the problem. They have quickly issued us a letter that authorizes the purchase of this sink, again, for free. We are very impressed by their responsive customer service and the fact that they would send us a new sink when it is out of warranty. Hopefully this next sink will have better results. I have changed the # of stars to reflect their customer service response, and will update this review again once we see how the new sink works out. ... show more

  • Looking Good!
Color: White Size: 33 Inch Style: Farmhouse
Update: Mid-July, 2015 Several people have posted, asking how well this sink is holding up. The answer is, so far, perfectly. I do use the sink rack designed to fit in this sink, and it took me a bit of time to get used to the sink rack, but everything is fine. The sink cleans up really well and sparkles. O course, since it was a new sink, I've been relatively careful not to scrape pots and pans on it. I get lots of compliments on the sink as well. So all, in all, I remain very pleased with my purchase. Original review: This sink is the cat's pajamas--or so I think, so far. And so far, all the news is good. I did tons of research on farmhouse sinks before buying this Kohler model. I actually prefer the Shaw Original Farmhouse sink in terms of aesthetic appeal, but the Kohler is cast iron rather than clay-fired, and everything I've read leads me to believe this Kohler is less prone to chipping or cracking than the Shaw, due mainly to the cast iron being fired at something like 400 degrees higher temperature than clay-fired sinks are. I'm no expert, but I've read that supposedly means the cast-iron surface is more durable. Certainly the reviews I've read on various sites say so. This sink has clean lines, a drain at one side, a gentle slope to the right to allow water to drain, and is easy to install. My kitchen cabinet installer found it a cinch to cut out the opening for this undermount sink to sit on. Beware, though, since the sink weighs over 120 pounds, it takes two people to lift it up into place without risking a hernia. So, all in all, I'm very happy with this purchase, though I should emphasize it was just installed. The real proof will be if the sink does not show wear after the first six months or year, thereby proving its durability. I'll come back and report then. Final note--I did buy a Kohler sink rack, item 6449-ST, that fits in the Whitehaven, to help protect it. ... show more

  • We love this cast iron farmhouse sink.
Color: White Size: 36 Inch Style: Double Bowl with Tall Apron
We like that it is so wide, from left to right; we have never had a sink this wide and it feels like such a luxury. We very much like the "farm house" style, with the thick face of the sink coming out from the countertop a little bit. We like that the center divider is low, allowing large pots with handles to go from one side to the other; and it just make working in the two sinks easier. We like that there were/ are no manufacturing defects that we have come across; the sink appears to be made perfectly. Connecting the plumbing was very easy because there is so much room under the 36" wide cabinet; there is plenty of room for plumbing, garbage disposal, etc. I like that the sink has the "self trimming " feature, because I installed it and it would have been much more work to trim the face of the cabinet exactly to meet the face of the sink had it not been self trimming; also, there is the issue of the minor adjusting that takes place when the counter top is installed; so even if you trimmed the cabinet face correctly at first, it might be off when the countertop installer makes the final adjustments to the sink height. ... show more

  • Well made, feels like it will last forever
Color: White Size: 36 Inch Style: Double Bowl with Short Apron
Wonderful look and very well constructed. These are made in an American foundry which is respectable. Instructions and cut out templates were very well done. Can be done DIY, but requires knowledge of carpentry and plumbing. I was quoted $400 for install, but I did it myself for $30. This sink will fit any well constructed 36" cabinet. I do not see it being supported by Ikea-type cabinets. Under sink supports are absolutely necessary. 150lb sink with the capacity to hold 150lbs of water necessitates it. I cut 2"x4" boards and supported the sink on the side rims. The front apron height is made for most new 36" cabinets. The bottom doors will be unaffected but the drawer/false drawer top will need to be cut out. It's self-finishing meaning you just have to rough cut the template. I replaced a top mount stainless sink. This sink is deeper than standard sinks and it's made for undermount. This necessitates plumbing modifications. This is not the same sink that you'll find at the big box retailers. I actually looked at a Kohler cast iron sink one of the stores. It was substantially lighter and appeared to be thinner. It made a different sound when tapped. Just be aware that they're not the same. It is extremely heavy, requiring 2 strong men. I tried using a couple regular drains when finishing installation and they were too small for the openings. I ended up having to purchase the Kohler drain assemblies because they were thicker. ... show more

  • Best sink I've ever had.
Color: White Size: 36 Inch Style: Double Bowl with Tall Apron
This is my dream sink - we've had it for a few months now, and we just love it. Even with a huge 16" cast iron frying pan dropping into it (a couple times), it only suffered one minor chip...and the impact was with one of the sharper edges of the pan. The idea of any chip may send off alarm bells for you, but please keep in mind that the frying pan in question put full-on dents into our prior "standard" gauge stainless sink. This is HEAVY - definitely have two people around to install it, and read instructions thoroughly to avoid any little positioning and mounting mishaps. Once it's in - it's IN. That sink isn't going anywhere! The size is absolutely perfect - from bottom to top, that extra couple inches of depth (compared to what most of us are used to as "standard" depth sinks) really makes a huge difference. I can clean my larger sheet pans with no problem by laying the end in the larger side, and letting the length extend at an angle over the divider. I do recommend using a tall sprayer-head faucet, because it's so big and deep that a "regular" fixed-head won't reach all over. Luckily, the sheer size of the sink makes it so that the larger arched faucets don't look disproportionate (I think the smaller standard-sized stock faucets would look entirely too small with this monster!) It looks gorgeous, and the front apron is sleek and simple - perfect if what you're looking for is a classic "farmhouse" apron sink. ... show more

Color: White Size: 33 Inch Style: Farmhouse
I love the look and style of the sink, but I’m regretting buying the cast iron now. Any minimal contact between a pot and the sink causes pot marks, which can only be removed with Kohler’s expensive cast iron cleaner without negating the warranty. The sink also stains very easily. If you dump a cup of coffee or get some tomato sauce (or anything with a deep color) in the sink and don’t rinse right away, the sink stains, again necessitating use of Kohler‘s expensive cast iron cleaner. We have a fire clay sink in our island and that is MUCH easier to take care of. I wish we had chosen a fire clay sink for the main sink. ... show more
