    • Great set of knives, good value
I ordered these knives so my daughter and fiancé could use them and not my expensive set that I have used for over 20 years. Having culinary experience over 45 years in the food industry, I have to say that these knives are quite good and an unbelievable value. The assortment of knives is amazing and ideal for any type of use. The handles are ergonomic and will withstand years of use. The blades are coated with an anti-stick coating of speckled gray paint. It really does prevent sticking and I am hoping that it withstands multiple dishwashing cycles. My recommendation, having owned a great set of knives for years, is that you should wash by hand in mild soap and dry rather than use the dishwasher, The cutting edges are sharp and the German stainless steel passes the paper cutting test. Like with any knife, a knife sharpener should be used periodically to keep the edge. Unfortunately, there is no sharpening steel with the set so I recommend purchasing one. I love the fact that each knife is labeled for each specific use, i.e. bread, pizza, cheese, etc. The acrylic block holder is rather interesting and attractive in its design. It is clearly designed for an open counter for easy access to the knives verses under a counter which will encumber the removal of each knife. I find that if you have removed many knives at once for multiple purposes, it is difficult to find the right slot to return them to the holder. Maybe a number on each knife with a matching number on the holder would be ideal. Overall, this is an excellent set and a bargain for the price, a real value! I recommend. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Wondering why you need to buy another set of knives when you already own one? I see two major reasons: 1. Prevent cross-contamination. (Note: A separate knife for veggies, animal meat and fish.) 2. If you have both vegan and meat lovers in your household This set is beautiful. But is it functional? When you open the box set. There is a separate thin box where the knives are. Each piece has individual wrapping to prevent scratches and each knife had a tip protector. The knife block is protected by a bubble wrap. Good News! -> No assembly required for the acrylic block. Each knife has its name printed near the handle. So for those some of us that only get involved in the kitchen when the home chef is sick - this is a great help. The knife is light but its heavier compared to a ceramic and of course lighter compared to a regular knife we know. The center of gravity of the chef knife I got is almost at the center. I tested the knife using the paper test (please see video) and it is sharp. It is coated by a non-stick material. Wondering why this knife has non-stick coating? Non-stick coatings on knife provides corrosion and wear resistance, and good release from the food being cut. From the set, based on how I prepare food and the knife handling and performance, the pieces that I believe I will be using more are: 1. Chef Knife for cutting fish. This will be ideal for preparing sushi and sashimi. 2. Bread Knife 3. Utility Knife 4. Paring Knife 5. Butter Knife 6. Cheese Knife 7. Scissor (There is a nice touch by adding a bottle opener at the end - there are times when you cannot find your opener.) The rest of the knife will be assigned to the vegan in the family. :) For the knives you’ll get in this set and considering the great deal Amazon is offering (with coupon), add to that the impressive Amazon Customer Service and 100% satisfaction backed by the seller - this inexpensive set can have a place in your kitchen. If you are thinking that after few years the non-stick may peel off - hey at this price - it’s really a steal! I’m generally pleased with this comprehensive kitchen knife set. With 17 knives (and a pair of scissors), there is a knife for every purpose: butter, bread, pizza (see picture), paring, chopping, etc. If you are into modern style, the knife set is very attractive and futuristic. We live in a Victorian house, so I took a little flack for not getting a more period-appropriate knife set. The acrylic storage block is very lightweight, and can be knocked over more easily than a traditional heavy wood knife block. I worry a bit about the longevity of the non-stick coating on the blades. How long will it last? How will dishwashing and knife sharpening affect it? I’m also a little worried about the sturdiness of the knives. As you can see in the second picture of a steak knife, the knife tang (the part that extends into the handle) is very narrow, about a quarter of an inch in width. With the stresses put on steak knives, this could be a future breaking point. I would have preferred for the full width of the blade to extend into the handle. The non-serrated knives and choppers are very sharp, and arrived fully capable of cutting paper. Overall, I like this knife set, and hope that it will last a long time. However, only time will tell. Update of 3/10/23: Time IS beginning to tell… After only two or three months of use, the tang of the steak knife mentioned above has already become loose in the handle, and the knife probably won’t last much longer. I’m worried that other knives may follow suit and begin coming out of their handles in the future. It’s a shame because, other than the durability issue, it is really a neat knife set. ... show more
