This was the best birthday gift for my 8 year old son - it’s the gift that keeps on giving one bowl of ice cream, gelato, sorbet, & fro-yo at a time. He wasn’t all that hyped about getting a “kitchen toy” for his birthday, but after making him s’mores ice cream two days after his birthday, he was over the moon, and we’ve made several types of ice cream and sorbet in the past couple of weeks since his birthday. Best small kitchen appliance ever! The stand mixer ice cream recipe book we purchased has some fantastic recipes, and the combo of this freezer bowl and recipe book have kept this little boy (and the whole family) happy eating these decadent frozen desserts. Yummy! I can now make high end ice cream in any flavor I choose. Better ingredients and the right recipe make for a better experience as compared to the store bought brand. The cool part is how easy the process is from beginning to end. Freeeze the bowl for 16 hours, make the yummy base, then add to the bowl and the churn for 15-20 minutes. The end result is like tasty soft serve that can well be eaten at this point if preferred. For a more traditional ice cream texture and taste, freeze the end result from the churn in a quart sized ice cream container for several hours. Our version of Häagen-Dazs Matcha Green Tea turned out amazing and is easily preferred to over the original namesake. ... show more

I had two issues with the product, both minor. First, the connector attachment doesn't fit flush to the mixer, which makes it a bit awkward to setup - not difficult, just awkward. The instructions do not tell you that once you start churning the ice cream, you cannot stop until it is completed period. If you stop he mixer for any reason, do NOT restart it. If you do, the plastic connector will snap as the dasher will have frozen in the bowl. This happened to me when our power went out for about 30 seconds then came back on. I wasn't close enough to get to the mixer to stop it when the power came back on and I heard a loud snap and the connect plastic had broken. It would have been nice if there was a warning in the instructions about power outages. Overall though, the ice cream maker works well. I made a no-added sugar chocolate ice cream with sugar free chocolate chips mixed in as well as a pink champagne sorbet. Both were quick and easy. Clean-up is simple. The bowl does take up a large amount of my freezer space prior to making the ice cream. My freezer is set a -1 F, so it only takes about 15 minutes to churn the ice cream. ... show more

This product is a great gift option for anyone who likes to be in the kitchen! It’s easy to use and clean. Unlike the traditional ice cream maker, you can make this inside and within 20 minutes. For fast prep, I would recommend leaving the bowl in your freezer. That way it’s ready to use when you are. This is a great KitchenAid accessory. It works as advertised. It costs much less than stand-alone machines and takes up less space. I've made several batches since I received it and they were all richer, creamier, and more flavorful than any store-bought ice cream I've had. It's important to follow the instructions. The bowl needs to be thoroughly frozen, and the ice cream batter needs to be well chilled (at least four hours in the refrigerator). Pouring batter into the bowl can be awkward but there's a fix for that: Use a large measuring cup to pour the mixture into the bowl. ... show more
