  • Wood splitter for camp fires
We took it camping and we bought wood from a store in that was in different sizes in thickness. The splitter worked well with smaller pieces. It easily split the precut pieces into two for better burn. The large pieces of wood were really hard to split into smaller sections.. sometimes it would not split at all, if to large. I'm sure it would very from wood to wood. Some wood is harder than others. So i would say this item is good for small and softer wood definitely not log sections. ... show more
Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2024 by I bought this headlight and it had bad circuit because it would operate and if you moved your position it would shut off. Move it around and it would come back on. Could not send it back because of time limit on return. So I bought another one and it does the same thing. Beware.

  • Highly recommend for 10-14 year olds
My sons are getting more adventurous. They want to be men and do manly chores. Recently we stayed at a cabin & needed to split our own wood. That’s a bit scary for a mom watching her kids swing an axe. This product seemed like a fantastic way to get them swinging and involved with a bit less risk. I highly recommend it. My sons have used hammers & splitting mallets to beat force on the log. It works like a charm. This is a great invention!!! ... show more

  • A new way to split kindling
I used to chop my kindling with a hatchet but those days are gone. It was always a bit risky getting those really thin pieces you need to start the fire, swinging a hatchet hard was risking a bad cut if something slipped or moved. This totally reverses the process and lets you precisely align the wood to the blade THEN strike the wood with a hammer or the hatchet back. I found it was much safer and quicker also. The unit is definitely heavy enough for kindling and small logs but I would stick to the smaller stuff, it will not replace a maul or hydraulic splitter for larger logs. It's easy to sharpen the cutting edge using a file or I used my cordless angle grinder and that worked great. The only complaint, if you could call it that, is that when striking the wood, the two metal hoops on top ring loudly, almost like a bell, it's more than a little annoying actually. Touching your hand to the hoop quiets this immediately and I usually have hearing protection on anyway so no big deal really. I am so glad I got this kindling splitter, It really is a game changer. ... show more

  • Sharp, sturdy, easy to use, max size is 6.5 inch log
The splitter was a little smaller than I thought. The description says 6.5” splitting capacity which is correct but it also says 10 ¾” wide and 9” thick. I had hoped to fit larger irregular shaped split logs in it to split but it is pretty much limited to 6.5”. That said, it works very well. The splitting edge is very sharp and logs split easily. You can bolt the splitter to a flat surface to keep it from moving. I just rest it on a large flat log and it is pretty stable without bolting it down. ... show more

  • Safe and easy to use wood splitter
This is so much easier and safer to use than my wood splitting axe. I wish I had known about his sooner. I just set my piece of wood/log on the spltter and then pound it through. I agree that it works for 6.5" logs or smaller. I get wood delivered for my backyard firepit, so I use this to split the larger pieces or make kindling. This unit is solid cast iron beast but still very portable and compact. ... show more

  • Great for mid and small size kindling
This is a handy tool for splitting small logs into smaller logs for kindling. It is definitely safer than using a hatchet or axe. It is not very large, approximately 9" across between the arms that hold the wood. Mostly you will be splitting already split logs to make them smaller. It also needs to be mounted to either a stump or log, or, as I did, bolted to an 18" square of 3/4" plywood to ensure stability. The blade comes properly sharpened and is easy to touch up with a file. It is made of solid enough steel that I don't anticipate it breaking anytime soon, or getting too rusty. I find myself using it every time we use our firepit and it works great. ... show more

  • Splitting Wood Has Never Been Easier
I used this while doing some winter camping and it works well. This wood splitter is solidly built and I imagine that this tool will last my lifetime unless I do something really stupid like cut it in half with a hacksaw. This handy wood splitter easily splits the wood into halves, quarters, or kindling. I used a 5 lb hand sledgehammer to drive the wood into the splitter and it only took a swing or two to have the wood flying onto the ground in pieces. I used it heavily for 4 days and 3 nights of camping where we burned through quite a bit of lumber. This tool also has 4 holes at the base, which I didn't use, to stabilize the tool onto something. In my use case, it wasn't necessary, but it would be nice in a more permanent wood-splitting scenario. I especially like the size of this because it easily fits into the storage compartments of my RV so I can take it camping. ... show more

  • Very sturdy and easy to use.
I use this thing daily here in the Northeast. I have a wood burner in my basement and all of my winter wood is stacked in a dry room next to my woodburner. I keep this on my basement floor and split kindling each morning to start my fire that burned out from the night before. It is a perfect size for kindling. Now, my logs are already split into chunks about 4-5" inches wide and fit in the opening of this no problem. It is solid steel and the splitting blade is thick with a nicely tapered edge. There is no mallot included, but I actually use a 20 oz hammer. Overall, it is a quality tool at a good price point and I should have bought one of these years ago! ... show more
