This is a review for the Kindling Cracker Firewood Kindling Splitter by Kindling Cracker. I bought this as a humorous Christmas gift for my son. Once he took off the fancy bow, naturally we had to go play with it straight away. A half hour later and we're back inside with armloads of kindling. The splitter works perfectly and is even better than advertised. I've had fireplaces and wood stoves for my entire life, and figure I've seen every kind of splitter and maul by now. I had expected the Kindling Cracker to be good, but how could it be much of an improvement on what's already out there? Well, surprise, surprise - it's good and better. I couldn't be happier with this thing and here's why: I haven't been able to split kindling for a few years because of a bum shoulder, but today I discovered that with the Kindling Cracker I'm able to split SINGLE HANDED (with my trusty 4# Stanley sledge) all the kindling I'm in the mood for. I can even do it sitting down. This turned out to be a huge surprise gift for me because I never expected that I'd be able to split wood again. My son loves it, too, and the only downside is now we have to take turns. Clean design, bullet-proof, super stable. The round top makes comfortable in the hand to carry. Edit: I just bought an Estwing MRF3LB 3-Pound Sure Strike Fiberglass Drilling Hammer and it works even better than the Stanley for me. If this review was helpful, please click "yes" below. You don’t have to hold the wood while making a stroke with your hatchet or axe, risking cutting off your hand. All you need is a 3 lb hammer. Just hold the wood and whack it with your hammer and it splits nicely. You do need to use firewood that has already been split. This is for making kindling and does the job well.

My husband splits a lot of wood for our wood stove. This is easy to use, functions as it claims. It’s sharp & is made with quality. The only negative comment is that the log has to be a certain size to fit. My husband will make accommodations to use the tool.

Works great, bought with a mallet and makes splitting of firewood easier. The only issue is that sometimes larger pieces of wood get stuck and you have to work it out, otherwise happy with this purchase.

This device makes the job of splitting wood for kindling faster, easier and safer with some caveats though. I was splitting some red oak and on some pieces the wood would spring (bounce) back up and not split all the way through. I solved the issue by moving the piece to either side so it would not spread as far. I was using a 3 lb sledge and might not have had the issue with a 4 lb sledge. I also found out I need to wear gloves as I got a few splinters while holding the piece to get it started. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.

This is great for making kindling. It is very sharp and does a great job. I bought the one with the larger opening. I'm glad I did because it allows me to put in larger pieces. I mounted it to a large log for stability. I use shorter (10 in or less) pieces that split completely rather than long pieces that open up and may get stuck. I know I will be using this for years to come.
