This is my first Kindle and I bought it to take on a very long 6 week trip where books would be hard to pack. I found it easy to set up and much easier on my eyes than reading on my iPad. The battery lasts a LONG time. It charges with a USB cord. I got a little cover and another stand charging thing as part of a “package”. I like the cover to protect it but the stand charger is a waste for me. I never use it. I am surprised that I still get Kindle version books from the library versus hardbacks because I don’t have to go get them! LOL. I’m a “late to the Kindle party” convert. The only thing that feels “cludgy” is navigating back and remembering the “controls” of the touch screen. The Kindle app on the ipad was much easier to navigate. I found it harder to set up permanent choices for font, etc. Also the power button is on the bottom where I accidentally turn it off if I rest the Kindle on my belly in bed. LOL ... show more

I've been buying Kindle books for years now. When the Fire tablets came out, I made the switch to those, but now I'm back to a dedicated e-reader. The screen on the Kindle is so much more comfortable to read, even in daylight, without annoying reflections. The controls are not exactly intuitive, so in the beginning, I did spend a lot of time looking for help! The battery life is great. You can use either the charging stand or a USB cable when it does need a charge. My only real complaint is the lack of an audio jack for listening to Audible books - a bluetooth headset or speaker is required for that. ... show more

I've always preferred to buy hard copies of my books, but I started traveling for work and decided to bite the bullet. I chose The signature for the storage capacity and battery life. It'll go all week without a charge and I haven't worried about the storage space yet at 500 books. It's been great, I can read wherever I'm at and I've started to use the Kindle even at home.     • Nice Kindle, but minor complains about the charger and cloth cover

The Kindle itself is nice enough, holds a charge for a long time, lots of ways to set brightness, font size and other useful features. Plenty of storage for hundreds of titles, I like the slightly larger size, waterproofing and the backlight, all of which are better than the previous generation, but that one is also quite good. The wireless charging is an ok feature, but hardly necessary as it's so infrequently is needed. Here's why no 5th star: Power button on bottom is too easily pressed while using it, annoying to have it turn off when using normally... put it on the top or a side. (like, duh!) The Amazon cloth case has a weird rough texture, I don't at all like how it feels in my hands, the leather or cork ones should be nicer but cost even more than the already overpriced cloth version. Much prefer the much less expensive aftermarket case I bought for my older paperwhite. The charger seems to work just fine, but takes up way too much night stand space for something that only gets used maybe once a month or so. And, if you leave the charger plugged in as 99.9% will do, it wastefully consumes power 24/7. Far more practical to just set it on a puck style QI charger that can also charge your phone, or to just plug it into a cable when needed, as that's no big deal just 1x a month. Summary: You're far better off getting the latest "bare bones" Paperwhite minus the essentials bundle. As it only needs charging 1x a month (or longer) you won't at all miss the wireless charging feature. For significantly less $ you can have the base Paperwhite + a nicer aftermarket cover/case. If budget permits, DO get the Paperwhite version vs the base Kindle, it's well worth the price difference ... show more
