I bought my son who is 43" tall a small to get him started. It fits well and allows him a little room to grow. Came fast and will keep him safe. It's not professional gear so i dont think it has strength to protect from a serious accident but the falls that come from learning, i feel confident he will be safer. I'm happy with it overall. I bought this for my 4yr old son. Hes 43in tall so i got him the medium its a perfect fit for him with plenty of room to grow. More than good protection for the type of riding he will be doing ... nothing extreme... he has plenty of good mobility.
