  • Wow! Wow!
This review is on the KidKraft Shimmer Mansion Doll House. This thing is absolutely huge! Once assembled, it is over 5 feet tall and over 4.5 feet wide. It is taller than my daughter who is about 4 feet tall. The house is about a foot deep. It has a garage (in which a Barbie convertible fits perfectly), exercise room, office, elevator, bathroom, living room, patio, a kitchen/dining room, 3 seasons room with a hot tub, and a bedroom loft with open staircase. The dollhouse is constructed of wood and pressboard rather than the plastic that the competing “Dream House” is made of (and it costs less!). It comes with all of the furniture you need and I love that the accessories are almost all wood rather than plastic. It is very sturdy and well constructed. The walls, floors, and ceiling have beautiful details printed on them such as wood planks, rugs, wallpaper, decorations, and more. For Included furniture there is a couch, ottoman, beanbag chair, end table, desk with chair and laptop, kitchen table and chairs, fridge cupboard, patio grill, house plant, a cat with a bed and food bowl, ceiling fan, treadmill, yoga mat, bed with mattress and pillows, bathroom sink, huge soaking tub, toilet that flushes, and a living room floor lamp that actually turns on (and automatically turns off a minute later to save batteries). The flushing toilet and light-up floor lamp came with batteries included in them. The dollhouse comes completely in pieces, and every single little piece needs to be put together. Assembly takes a long time. Don’t try to do it with kids waiting to play with it! It took my husband and I about 5 hours total. The most annoying part of assembly was tediously peeling all the film off the front and back of the windows- It only came off in small pieces and took forever. The house comes in a large, 50+lb flat box and comes with all of the hardware needed. An Allen wrench was included but we needed a screwdriver and a 2nd Allen wrench to get it together. The instruction booklet was decent with numbered pictures, and each piece in the box has a numbered sticker on it so you can follow along with the instructions. There were a few instances where the pictures were confusing, but we figured it out. I’m not sure how you could possibly assemble it alone. There were many times when I needed to hold something while he lined something else up, or he needed to tilt the whole heavy thing backward 45 degrees so I could get underneath, etc. If you really have assembly troubles, there is an app you can download on your phone which supposedly has more detailed instructions, but we did not use it. It took about 5 hours total from the time we opened the box until it was completely ready. We assembled it after my daughter was in bed and surprised her with it on Christmas morning. She spent the entire day playing with it for hours at a time. Since then, she’s spent any free play time she gets playing with it, even when she doesn’t have any playmates to share it with. It’s so nice to find a toy which uses her imagination and will keep her entertained for hours without involving any screens or electronics! Her Barbie dolls fit perfectly in the house and on the furniture. The only part she has trouble with is the elevator. It’s hard for her to push up and down. I wish we could figure out a way to make it slide up and down easier. This mansion retails for over $200, however I got it for $89.00 on Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend and while I don’t know if I could stomach the price tag at over $200, I definitely feel $150 or less is a great price and well worth it. It is a well-made quality toy which will be played with for years to come. I’ll admit, even at 30+ years old I play with it now and then! Any child would be lucky to have it. ... show more

  • Best doll house on the market! Great bang for your buck!
This house is absolutely awesome! My granddaughter loves it! Big, sturdy, and sooo cute! All the home decor accessories are the coolest. Instructions weren’t too bad. Suggest you keep the picture handy. If I were to ever need another Barbie house, I’d definitely get another one of these!

  • The only dollhouse worth buying!
This doll house (mansion!) was a Christmas present for my 3 year old. She absolutely LOVES it. She needs her step stool to reach the top floor, which is fine. In my opinion, this blows the competing “dreamhouse” out of the water. Building it was not fun, my poor husband spent hours putting it all together and the instructions were not very clear. But when it was all set up, we had a beautiful, sturdy doll house with furniture included for each room — bedroom complete with a bed, table and lamp; a living room with a “TV” as well as a couch, a bean-bag and a real working lamp; a kitchen with a little fridge, table and 2 chairs, and a little ceiling fan with adhesive to mount it; a bathroom with a sink, a toilet (plastic) that makes a little flush noise, and a bathtub (also plastic). There’s also a little pool that has its own dedicated room, an office area, a mini gym, a porch area with a BBQ, and a garage with enough room to store a full-sized doll car. What I like is that there’s not a whole lot of plastic material used, a majority of it is wooden and feels very well made. We’re now in the month of March and this is still a favorite toy that is played with daily. A child’s imagination knows no bounds — not only is this the barbie house, but my daughter also plays with some of dad’s action figures so sometimes it’s the super hero house, sometimes it’s paw patrol’s house. I love that she’s playing for hours on end and the furniture is able to be rearranged so she can create her own house exactly as she wants it. Pros - very sturdy, well-made dollhouse. very large in size with ample amounts of space to play in each “room”. beautiful once it’s built. includes plenty of accessories and decor for each room. a real “flushing” toilet and a lamp that actually lights up. unique design, also great to double up as a “storage” space for dolls and figures, arranging them neatly until it’s time to play again. Cons - not many, but building this thing was stressful, many tears of frustration. instructions not very clear, labeling of the parts almost nonexistent. you’ll need youtube and a prayer for this one. the elevator requires some force to use so littler kids will likely need help with it until they get the hang of it. also if your child has any Kens to go with the Barbies, Ken is slightly too large to fit in the elevator or lay in the bed. ... show more

  • Very big and sturdy! Very big and sturdy!
This dollhouse is so cool, so cute, it has so many rooms for your child to do so many different activities with her dolls in; especially if she has an imagination like my daughter lol. One thing I will say is that it was very time consuming, so I would definitely set aside 2 to 3 hours out of your day to build this. I did it by myself and I really had no problem following the directions; I used both the paper and the app instructions and it was a breeze. It is very tedious having screw and make sure you put in the specific screws for that hole, but overall the directions were very clear. I received all the pieces needed, there were a few pieces that had chips but not enough to really notice unless you know it's there, so I didn't really have a problem with that. The one thing I didn't like were the window pieces, they come with a brown sheet that you have to peel off, and I feel like that was the hardest part of putting everything together. It is nice and sturdy, dimly lit, but some stick on lights will work wonders. All of the accessories are great, love the working light and toilet; One thing that I think it's overlooked in a lot of children toys is the mirrors that are included; I have to say I absolutely love this mirror because it's like looking in actual mirror, you can actually see a reflection and it's not blurred or obscured in any kind of way it's awesome. It is a very big dollhouse, my suggestion is to build it in wide open space because there are a couple parts during the build where you have to lay it down to actually get to where the screws need to be places, so definitely have the space. My daughter loves it and hasn't stopped playing with it since her birthday party. Definitely worth the money I paid for it! ... show more

  • Beautiful Doll house Beautiful Doll house
My daughter loves her first Doll house, even though it’s too big for her height. She uses steps to play with her doll house. She’s two years old now and she can play with it till forever even when she’s 8 or 10 because this doll house is at least 4 or 4’5 feet tall, and almost 3 feet wide. It’s huge. When it comes to quality, material is really good. I know it will last longer because of its quality. It’s sturdy, as you can see on one of the picture my cat sometimes naps on it when my daughter plays with her doll house. It looks very pretty. This doll house takes really long time to build. If you’re reading and following directions properly It will take you 3-4 hours straight with no breaks to assemble it. It can take longer than 4 hours if you’re not using drill and distracted by your toddler. In my opinion, drill will make it faster to assemble it. I didn’t use drill so it took me 4-5 hours to assemble it. ... show more

  • KidKraft wooden dollhouse really sparks imagination
I've been using this dollhouse to play with my niece during our weekend visits, and she loves decorating the rooms and arranging her dolls. the build quality seems good and sturdy, which is nice since she likes to rearrange furniture often. however, it took some time to assemble, and a few of the pieces didn’t fit as snugly as I’d hoped. overall, it’s a nice addition to her playroom, but I wish the instructions were a little clearer. still, it’s a fun, engaging toy for kids who like to create little stories and setups with their dolls. ... show more

  • Shimmer Mansion-Ikea has nothing on this company Shimmer Mansion-Ikea has nothing on this company
We ordered this doll house for our granddaughter, wanted something that would grow with her over the next few years. This definitely met our expectations. Once the UPS driver struggled the box to the car cover, my husband had to lift the house. We opened the box and found over 40 pieces for assembly. He is an industrial electrician, should have been a walk in the park. The instructions are in drawings, along with which screws to use with each application. It comes with an Allen wrench. You'll need a Phillips head screw driver - one of the stubbies as well as a regular one. It is important to follow along in steps as the 4 stories and 9 rooms and elevator interlock for stability. It took us roughly 6 hours to assemble, as it's easy to turn some of the parts the wrong way. The first issue we had was the elevator car had a plexi glass back to keep the dolls from falling out and it was too narrow to attach to the top and bottom pulling the screws out on one side. We simply removed the other 4 screws and left the plexiglass off. It didn't seem to make any difference to our granddaughter. The other issue was the sunroom wall that had a protective adhesive on the back. They need to sell that adhesive to hospitals, they could just stick severed parts back on with it. Half a bottle of goo gone, an hour of elbow grease and my yearly quota of cuss words, it was ready to go into place. It's a really nice fixture to the doll house even if it was a son of a biscuit to get it prepped to go into the doll house. This doll house is huge! I placed it in front of a door for reference. I'm 5' and had to tiptoe to do the roof screws. It is well worth what we paid, the accessories are either wood or sturdy plastic and fit nicely in the house. Despite the need for a general contractor, a priest and a huge bucket of patience for the 5 year old, I'd buy again. ... show more
