  • Solid build, easy setup
Good sturdy device. Setup is easier than instructions seem to show, once you get it. There is a cardboard cover inside with a "screwdriver" tip to set your code. The one unclear point is that press down on the little set screw first, then it turns easily. When aligned correctly, the little set screw pops up into its locks and becomes hard to turn. Very easy overall. We got the weather cover which fits perfectly. ... show more

  • Soft
This lock doesn’t have a hinge the only reason I bought it was to replace a broken one that fell. Also all the buttons broke when it fell.

  • Lifesaver
These are great to have when you forget your house key, for school kids so they don't need to carry a key to school or for someone watching your house and pets. We have one at our home and I recently bought another one for my son's home. It's easy enough to change the code(s), just remember to tell the rest of your family! Seriously, this is fool-proof and a lot better then $200 for a locksmith. We place ours on the door jam on the opposite side of the handle, towards the top. You can place this anywhere, higher up or lower depending on the height of your family members. We have another one on the side of our deck (exposed to some weather) for our one shop, so when we have to go there there during off hours and don't have that set of keys. This way we know it's there but it's not visible from the front of the building. When we used to rent, our landlady loved these boxes and installed them on all of her buildings. She set them to her personal code so only she could access it. She never let workers in the apartments unless she was there. These are worth the cost and so easy to install. ... show more

  • The lock on this safe is wickedly difficuilt to crack ! I love it !!
The lock on this safe is much much better and more formidable than other reviewers have stated. To say the lock on this safe has "only" 1024 possible combinations greatly understates the difficulty in unlocking it if you don't know the combination. Because it offers no visual clues as to what previous combinations you have tried, this lock is much much more difficult than a 3 wheel combination lock that has 999 combinations. Instead of dealing with just 3 wheels, you are dealing with 10 buttons. And you cannot tell by visual inspection which buttons have already been depressed. It's the absence of visual clues that makes this lock really difficult to crack. Further, I will bet that this lock is a "black box" to nearly all people apart from perhaps real estate agents. They don't know what it is. Is it an electronic device that you have to enter a code to enter the door without triggering an alarm ? Is it a lock where you have to enter numbers in sequential order ? How many numbers should you enter ? Unless you know how this lock actually works, this is a very difficult beastie to deal with. If you happen to know each button is binary, and that number sequence is irrelevant, you still have to cope with the lack of visual cues. I have a 3 wheel padlock, each wheel numbered 0 through 9. It is easy to crack this 3 wheeler with absolute certainty by just starting with 000 and going 1 by 1 up to 999. On a 3 wheel lock you are hugely aided by actually seeing each number so you can execute a perfect sequence. But with this 10 button baby, it is very difficult to keep track of what combinations you have entered, because when you depress a key, the key is not observably depressed. So that running through all combinations 0000000000 to 1111111111 will pose quite a headache just keeping track of what you have done before. I've located it on my front door, a front door that is visible to neighbors, pedestrians and passing vehicles, so any stranger standing there fiddling with the door is going to feel kind of conspicuous. Maybe a really good card counter - the kind that gets banned from casinos - could remember all the past combinations tried. But anyone with this kind of brain or skill is surely not going to be doing burglaries on a middle income suburban house. Just be sure to devise a combination you will remember, or can find easily. Maybe e-mail yourself some hints on what it is... And/or in your wallet carry a card with the combination written on it.. And... maybe... base the combination on the first 5 unique numbers on your most often used credit card. ... show more

  • How many possible combinations there are isn't nearly as important as the fact that there IS a code to open the box
Here's why I gave it 4 stars and not 5. First off, this key box does it's job well. It will hold your keys and it does require a combination of numbers to pressed before it will open. It has a solid build that feels like it will last a long time and also feels like it would hold up to any kind of smashing or sawing for quite a while. I think it would take a LOT of work to break this thing open. Now the reason I didn't give it five stars is because it doesn't really have a ton of different combinations to choose from. You can set your code to be any length of numbers. So I could set it to open when I push "7", or I could set it to open when I've pushed 1,2,3,5,6,8, and 0. Or if you wanted to you could set it so you have to push all 10 numbers to open it (not really a good idea). So by now you're probably thinking dang that sounds like it adds up to a crap load of different combinations. Well it doesn't because of two things. You can't repeat a number, and it doesn't matter what order the numbers are pushed in. If my code is 8497, I could push 4987, 9784, 8974, etc. and the lock will open. So to save you the math, there are 1023 possible combinations (I won't bother explaining why that is in this review). Anyone who says differently is wrong, the product description even says "over 1000" which implies it is just a little over 1000. Anyway, the way to set the combination is simple. On the back of the plate there is one screw for each number. Twisting the screw 180 degrees sets that number to be part of the code. So if I want my code to contain the numbers 1257 (remember you can't repeat and the order doesn't matter) then I would simply turn all the screws behind those numbers. If you wan't something easier to remember you can go shorter, if you want the length that has the most possible combinations that would be a length of 5 numbers. Add up the list I made if you want, it's 1023 (see below. I did not count having zero numbers in the code). But don't be scared away when you see how few combinations are possible for some lengths. Remember a potential thief has no idea how long the code is, so he/she would still have 1023 possible combinations to guess from. No one is going to sit there and figure out all the possibilities and then take the time to try them all. And keep in mind that if someone really wants to break into your house and is prepared ahead of time to do so, this isn't going to stop them. This key box is to keep some loser from trying to find the key that everyone hides under a rock or hangs under the deck or whatever. Now you can put that key in a lock box. 4 stars for build quality and the fact that it does what is says it does. Length Number of Possible combinations 1 10 2 45 3 120 4 210 5 252 6 210 7 120 8 45 9 10 10 1 ... show more

  • It works
It works but not as good as I hoped. Love that lock stays with the key, but not as easy to use as I thought it would be.
