These are so handy. They have enough weight to be sturdy, and although they are obviously not real wood grain, they fit in nicely as extra tables that can be moved around as needed. I've used the large one turned on its side, and use the cubby whole for storage. I have used it to store my purse out of the way, to store extra items like snacks. I used it for books I was reading. You cant tell from the front. I even prefer the look of turning it on the the side because the "top" edge has rounded edges which makes them more "casually" shaped for the room I use them in. The small one is not hollow so no storage, but I use it like a little..stool..if I need to put down what's in my lap, whether ipad, book, mail, plate. I move it around where I might need it. Closer to my chair or farther. It is just sitting whimsically at the front opposite corner of my chair to be used and moved if I need. I actually have used it as a stool when working on a project at floor level. And it stores inside the other one if you have a need to put it out of your way. They slide well across carpet. I haven't used them on hardwood. They have small round plastic feet on the each corner that raise them up a little from the floor. You can just push them with your foot if you've pulled it close, and then need to get up later. They are good for small spaces. You definitely want to break out your yardstick to see how big these are NOT. The large is only about 15x15x15, so the small is maybe 12x12, ruler sized. The pictures are deceiving as to their size if you are looking for something "full size." So side by side combined they make a nice "size small" coffee table. Would be good sided by side in front of a loveseat sized sofa. The surface is textured, btw, not slick smooth. I suppose to simulate real wood grain. Just slightly texture, like feeling a snag here and there. I bought the natural wood, and it looks close enough, except the grain pattern repeats itself. There is no telling how many rooms these will end up being used in when an occasional table is needed. I've had them a year in use next to my "thinking chair." The larger one as a side table, which is turned on its side with the back opened to the wall, and no one is the wiser- there are six 10lb bags of kitty litter tucked inside there. And the smaller one is sitting at the corner of the other front side of the chair as a place to plop something down. My cat uses this one as his perch to be petted as well. I have used them both in front of my chair which makes that cubby extra handy. I like that they are low-profile, low to the floor. I can reach over without lifting my arm up to use it. It is too low in general for a lamp in my opinion, except a small one. I have a floor lamp on the other side of the chair. These are the perfect height for a toddler to build blocks, or coloring book, or whatever. In the future they can good plant stands for a tall plant. The thing that could make these better is if they were real wood! Except then, they wouldn't have been so inexpensive! ... show more
