Usually caps always sit weird on the head, OR when you get them free as part of a crafting kit they always look flimsy and very cheap. This one is surprisingly sturdy enough and well made (still on the cheap side but better than average). My daughter was delighted with the embroidered patch stickers that come with it, especially the smiley and the star. The puff paint (the only reason for me not to give 5stars) is the only ‘tricky’ part… you really have to be careful with that or you will end up just having a smeared part looking like some gone-wrong watercolors… the stencil that come with it are also not too useful in making it “puff”. Colors will just stay flat. Maybe you need to go over the same part multiple time (like many many times, as two layers still didn’t do it). 9.99USD is a fair price point for this kit - great gift idea too. So, all in all definitely a very nice crafting idea, more for younger kids: but my 12year old was super happy too! 😉 ... show more

This DIY hat decorating kit has some really nice features—the puffy paint works well and there’s a generous variety of patches along with alphabet and number stencils, which make it easy to get creative and personalize your hat. The decorating supplies are definitely the highlight and add a lot of fun to the project. However, the hat itself is unfortunately pretty poor quality—thin material and not very durable—so it doesn’t hold its shape and makes decorating it difficult. I remember doing one of these back in the '80s when puffy paint was all the rage. It's such a fun blast from the past to see it making a comeback! This version is way cooler than the one I remember. The hat itself has a flattering shape that actually looks good when worn, holds its structure well, and the patches add just the right amount of bling. It avoids that classic "exploded paint" look some of us (ahem) ended up with when self-editing wasn’t our strong suit. It’s a total joy to make, and bonus, it actually keeps the sun off when you wear it, so it's functional art. Go wild, then wear it out. The more it gets used, the more of a treasure it becomes. It’s especially perfect for kids before the middle school phase hits and everyone starts second-guessing how they express themselves. Let them go bold, go bright and express yo’selves! Or for the more design-minded, plan out your pattern ahead of time, à la the triangles and sprinkles of peak '80s style. Mix in *your own white* for pastels or go mixing some tertiary shades. However you do it, it’s bound to be a hit. I recommend using stencils and sponge for a controlled result. KEY: ⭐️ 1 star= Disappointed. I don't recommend it, it is poor quality, or it does not reflect the advertising. ⭐️⭐️ 2 stars = Has some redeeming quality. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars = It's passable.
