The compression-molded EVA midsole extends the benefits of the footbed and adds an extra spring to your step.ESS Shank Reduces Foot Fatigue To keep you going longer, the Targhee II has a torsional-stability ESS shank in the midsole. This shank helps to stabilize your foot as you move, minimizing fatigue, so you can enjoy every moment as you push on to the next crest.Multi- Directional Lugs for Greater Traction To give you a steady grip on all kinds of terrain, the Targhee has 4-millimeter, multi-directional lugs on its non- marking rubber outsole. These lugs are spaced wide apart to "bite" into the terrain, giving you more dependable traction on slippery and uneven surfaces.Patented Toe Protection Because rocky objects and debris can trip you up on the trail, the Targhee II includes Keen.Protect, patented toe protection that wraps up and over the outsole for thorough coverage of the entire toe bed.Keen: A Story of Hybrid Innovation Keen began in 2003 with an inspired sandal design that combined comfort and toe protection. This radical design departure for sandals spawned the overriding Keen philosophy of hybrid innovation--striving to create new possibilities and to discover and implement original ideas. Keen products put an emphasis on the joys of play. At the same time, Keen believes in the value of working hard to give back to the community. To that end, the company has partnered with non-profit organizations around the world to help get youth into the outdoors, protect land for its environmental and recreational value, and to give bikes to kids in need. What's in the Box Keen Men's Targhee II Hiking Shoe.

  • Heel is a bit large but otherwise great fit and comfort
Size: 11.5 Wide Color: Cascade Brown/Golden Yellow
Good sturdy walking/hiking shoes. The insole is very thick and good arch support. Past complaint for other Keen's is soles wear out way too quickly so we'll see how these do. If the soles "melt" off in a few months I'd change this review to a 3.

  • Wide enough, warm, comfortable with good grip...an excellent LONG TERM review of the Keen Targhee II.
Size: 11 Color: Cascade Brown/Golden Yellow
I don't normally write reviews when something positive occurs, more so I just complain when something goes wrong and then post about that. But I felt compelled to laud this hiking shoe, even though I've only used it on one 8 mile hike in the Angeles National Forest. My girlfriend and I hiked Mount Baden Powell this past Saturday 4/25/15 in what ended up being the perfect test environment for any hiking shoe or boot. A cold, windy day with plenty of unusual Southern California precipitation. Starting out at 37 degrees at 6,500 feet, my feet felt comfortable, warm and firm in these Keen's. Hiking up to between 8,000' - 9,300' it started snowing. We crossed over patches of snow as well as walking through mud. A good portion of the terrain we passed over was rock. On the way down as we dropped to 7,500' and below the snow turned to sleet and then became rain so we also crossed several puddles along the trail path. After completion my feet stayed warm, comfortable and dry. I've got fat/wide feet so these size 11's were very spacious and my feet didn't feel cramped. I've also got a pair of Vasque Taku GTX hiking boots and these Keen Targhee II's had an extremely similar feel to the Vasque's, just in a hiking shoe form instead of hiking boot form. They seem pretty sturdy and durable, but I can't give them 5 stars just yet because in my books an excellent product will have a long, productive and durable life. Like my Toyota or my Vasque hiking boots. I'll try to follow up with this post in a couple months or after I use them to hike Mount Whitney in September with these Keen Targhee II's and then possibly raise it to 5 stars if they are still going strong without a great deal of wear and tear. ***Updated 8-24-16. These hiking shoes are by far the best hiking shoe's I've ever had. I don't even bother with using my Vasque hiking boots anymore. Besides, trekking poles help reduce ankle sprains anyway, so who needs a heavier/bulkier boot? The last 3 weekends I hiked San Bernardino Peak (16.5 miles 4700' elevation gain), Old Baldy Trail (13 miles 6,000' elevation gain) and last weekend Mount Whitney (23 miles 6,670' elevation gain) and these hiking shoes are now well over a year old and still kicking ass. Grip still great, comfortable enough and very durable, wide for my wide feet...I cannot praise these hiking shoes enough. Pair them with Thorlos wool hiking socks and your feet will do better and last longer than other poor suckers stuck in other shoes/boots.*** ... show more

  • Reliable fit, good durability, some sole problems
Size: 12 Color: Gargoyle/Midnight Navy
My third pair of Keen hiking gear, Sandals, high top, and the ankle height. The wide toe box is a big plus. Very comfortable. Size varies with these shoes, high tops are larger for the stated size, sandals are a little small, these shoes hit spot on for a size 12. Well made but I know after a while, the soles will start to detach. They are compound soles, with two layers of dissimilar color and composition. They come apart in the arches and toes. Nothing you can do about it except keep a. Tube of shoe goo around to fix them. Seems the original method of affixing the soles gets old and releases. Not a problem unless you are mid hike. Having said that, and it is the same for all of my Keen purchases, they readily can be fixed. It’s my third pair, right, so if I can fix them I will. Upper shoe quality is very high and the toe jambs are quite rugged. These are the most comfortable hiking brand I have used. ... show more

  • Lightweight, Comfortable and Well Made, Mostly
Size: 9.5 Color: Cascade Brown/Golden Yellow
I’ve had several pairs of Keens. I’m very happy with ten but for one exception. The toe box area on every pair starts to crack about two years in. Otherwise, they are comfortable from the first day, remain waterproof and reasonably breathable. They are reasonably priced. The soles could last a bit longer but don’t wear unreasonably quickly. I keep buying them because, overall, they’re good value for money. ... show more

  • Great fit! Well made!
Size: 11 Color: Black/Black
I really like the fit and walk of these shoes. I have problems with my feet in most shoes. I have a old foot injury and these are some of the best shoes I have owned. Pro tip: I first used a leather protector ( Kiwi Mink Oil ) on these. It protects the leather and shines them up a bit. I also swapped out the laces for a set of Stay-Ty Waxed 54" laces. I use these on all my shoes/boots. They work! ... show more

  • Fitting to my needs
These shoes are just about perfect for my current needs. I was looking for something that would be a decent all around shoe/boot for hiking and also something that would work well in a construction setting. They are a little bit more clunky than I expected which isn't necessarily a bad thing since this adds to the sturdiness and robustness of these shoes! Because they are low cut, the water-proof feature is not always helpful, however, under the right circumstances they will keep your feet dry when they would otherwise get soaked. It is also worth mentioning that they provide above average traction compared to any "regular" shoes I've owned. Places that I'd normally avoid stepping due to fear of slipping, I can now step cautiously and usually expect a positive outcome. For me, they felt pretty good right out of the box but they were very comfortable after about a week of wearing them. I've worn them for over eighteen hours straight a few times and they still feel pretty good on the feet, albeit a little smellier than before. They are kind of wide in the toe region which was expected and is fine for me. I have fairly wide feet and my toes still have a little wiggle room. A slight separation formed on the outer sole, however, it doesn't affect function and it isn't getting any worse so I'm not really complaining but just wanted to mention this. It's like the glue didn't quite hold up in one little section on one shoe. Only time will tell, but it appears to be a cosmetic flaw and nothing else. To sum up, after owning these shoes for two months, I really like them! There might be better shoes out there, but for the price, these shoes surpassed my expectations. ... show more
