OVerall I've been really happy with these mid height boots. The size and fit is as expected, they are comfortable, and they aren't heavy enough to be noticeably tiring at the end of the day, even after putting in a ton of miles. Running through the main points: LOOKS: -They look nice. Maybe a little chunky, but it's a hiking book, not a fashion boot you wear only to REI and Lowes on the weekend -There are some small reflective bits in the boot laces that to catch your flashlight at night if you're fumbling around in the tent trying to find your boots FIT: -I ordered my normal size and they fit perfect. Enough room for a mid weight wool sock without feeling squished -There is a lot of padding, which I am usually not a fan of as it can be hot and heavy. While these boots are a little warm (but perfect for fall hikes), they don't feel heavy and they do feel comfortable, so everything seems good. SOLE: -The tread pattern is large and chunky, which I like. It's open enough that it doesn't easily fill up with mud and aggressive enough to get good grip on rockier trail sections -The soles are on the stiffer side. They have enough give and flex while walking that they don't feel like you have a wood plank strapped to your feet, but they are stiff enough to keep sharp scree and rocks from poking your arch or feeling uncomfortable. They are terrible basketball shoes, but great hiking boots. LACING: -These are easy to pull on with a wide loop at the back I can fit two bares fingers (or one gloved finger) into easily - These only have a "speed hook" for the top most lacing point. That is, you can't unlace these all the way down easily, and that's fine for a mid boot. What I do LOVE is that the top speed hook pinches the lace enough to hold a bit of tension while you tie the laces. You don't have to fight the boot at all to keep the laces from going loose as you tie them -The laces themselves are my only complaint. They are okay. They have a good look, but the alternating orange/black pattern causes kinks of bends in the laces. It doesn't affect their function, but I find it slightly annoying. SUMMARY Overall, I think these are great hiking boots. Moderate ankle support, very comfortable, easy to put on, and easy on your feet. These are a good spring and fall boot, maybe a bit warm for summer-- but most any boot is going to be warm in summer, so that's not a huge deal. I have a minor quibble over the laces, but that's really it. These are a great value for the price and a solid 4 or 4.5 stars out of 5 stars in my book. ... show more

Like all of the more recent boots from KEEN, these aren't as wide in the toebox as I'd like, but they're still wide enough to be comfortable. I still have to break them in, but my overall sense is that they're well-made and will be durable. I'll take some time and break them in at my job as a wilderness guide, and if anything crops up, I'll update this review. In the meantime, I like them quite a bit and KEEN is almost always a great brand, so I'm not too concerned. ... show more

I really love these shoes/boots! For a shoe described as a hiking boot they are really lightweight, yet built strong to withstand your foot's impact when stepping on rough terrain. But you don't have to wear them only when you're hiking because they are designed and comfortable enough to wear in almost any casual situation. The boot has a strong sole made of rubber with an all-terrain design and definitely provides elevated traction in muddy or inclement environments. These shoes will give you optimal traction making each step you take safe and secure. The upper part of the shoe is made from quality suede leather that is waterproof but also has areas of a breathable mesh lining to keep your feet cooler when needed. Lacing up the shoes is quite easy to get them as tight or as loose as you want. I also think the color scheme of black olive/fossil orange is quite appealing and can be worn with just about any outfit. I wear an 11.5 or 12 in shoes and I ordered the 12 and it fits great! In short, it's an easy choice to say yes and buy these shoes to fill a need or void in your wardrobe. I got my son-in-law a pair of Keen work boots 2 or 3 years ago for his birthday, and he still raves about how much he loves those! He told me I should update my review to say that he's been wearing them to work every day, and they are so comfortable, and don't get old-looking or wear out at a fast pace as other boots have! I couldn't update my review for those boots, because they aren't on the market anymore, but I jumped at the chance to get these hiking boots when I saw him, since he loves the brand and also he's an outdoorsman. These are really well-constructed, nice-looking boots made of the best natural materials, meaning they use as little synthetic crap as possible. Yes, they are more expensive than some, but in this case I can guarantee they will last at least 5 times longer than boots from store like Walmart. AT LEAST! I will probably buy Keen footwear for his and other men on their birthdays or xmas. Probably one of the top 5 brands in men's footwear; It's nice to know before they open the box, that this will be a gift he will really love and use. That's so important, because it makes me the giver, and also the recipiant thrilled. Thank you Keen, and Amazon for givng me the opportunity to be an honest reviewer! ... show more

I've had a pair of hiking boots by another manufacturer for years. They've served me well but it was time to replace them. Technology has really changed since I bought those! These are much more lightweight. They fit just right (I normally wear a 9.5 in athletic shoes and these are perfect at that size). They are easy to lace and the hook at the top makes adjusting them for snugness very easy. Unlike some boots, they are very easy to get on and off. The boot opens up and the tongue pulls back enough to easy slip your foot in and out yet when they are laced, they're snug enough to keep your feet and ankles stable. This will be especially helpful if you're having to get in and out of them without a chair to sit in such as in a tent. I've not yet tested the waterproof claim but have not reason to doubt it. They have the Keen.dry waterproof membrane system as well as a built in odor control feature for those long, hot hikes. A great boot, well worth the price. ... show more

So, I've used many brands of hikers throughout the years, and these certainly check many of the boxes: - comfortable out of the box - relatively lightweight - fit is flawless - excellent lacing system But, there's one thing that I feel is going to be a game changer. The rubber sole extends above the toebox. That's a fail point that always tears apart on my other namebrand hikers. I think these are going to be super durable. This is an excellent pair of waterproof hiking boots. I got them the other day and started breaking them in by wearing them on a Costco run. I am not sure they really need a break in period. These are so comfortable. I have started ordering a size larger for hiking boots and running shoes. I need the extra space in my boots for thick socks and in my running shoes for room in the toe box. Light weight. Fits as expected. Wide toe box accommodates wide or swelling feet. Excellent lacing system is fast and secure. They’re waterproof, which means they aren’t going to be as breathable as non waterproof boots so plan accordingly. I’ve owned over a dozen pairs of keens over the years and they never fail to impress. If you spend a lot of time on your feet these are a great option. ... show more
