I've had a couple for a few years now and they are the smoothest winding and the smoothest drag I've used, with that said I havent spent 100 bucks on an open face either...... they have held up nicely, the only complaint I have is if you wind with loose line at the start they are prone to get the line up under, behind the spool or worse yet even deeper. If you can remember to keep a tight line b4 you wind it virtually eliminates this problem. To the manufacturers.... if the spool was a quarter inch longer at the line reservoir and a quarter inch longer towards the handle I think this would also solve the problem. A wider reservoir for the line is a HUGE plus in open face reels.... HUGE.... All in all I absolutely love these reels. I now have 5 of them I think. For the money you cannot come close. If you have any doubts please try one. I promise you wont be disappointed. As a matter of fact I think you will be amazed. I love mine..... ... show more

With 12lb braid this reel casts and reels very well with no binding. A month in, this reel really couldn't be better, and I consider it an excellent value. I've caught many bass on it. It doesn't twist the line in regular use which I appreciate. I flip the bail manually each cast, and watch for line not laying as it should. It's almost trouble free and I'd buy it again. Update: after a 3 months this reel continues to perform well. The bail doesn't twist the line. Few wind knots but I flip the bail manually and watch for loops like a hawk. I bought a 4000 (black, not "Lite") and it was too big and heavy, so I returned it and bought another 3000 (black, not "Lite") which is a good size for shaky head, wacky worm, t-rig etc. I have several baitcasters and spinning reels and have fished since the 1970s. These are good spinning reels. ... show more

I've never used or even heard of kastking until I stumbled on it here on Amazon. I've always used Quantum, Shimano Diowa and well.. You get the point (big name and big price tags). I was looking for a cheap reel for my son to learn on. I was so impressed with the performance, comfort quality and speed, that I purchased one to keep on my "truck rod". It's got a decent sized handle that works well for kids and adults of all ages, it was a little loud at first but a quick lube and grease job with quality reel care products took car of that. Loaded this up with 10lb monofilament, and went fishing. Caught 2 bass and 9 blue gill and the reel worked perfectly. I did have to take 20 yards of line off spindle as I had it too full and was getting rats nests. After that awesome. When filling the spool stop a little before full to prevent this.
