  • Does the job!
I like its design and does the job once installed. Cons: It makes a ticking noise when turned on/off through automation.

  • Pair these just right…
These things are easy to install, but if you don’t pair them in just the right way they’re a pain in the ass to use.

  • My new favorite light switch
We replaced almost every light switch in the house with these switches, including a mixture of single throw and three-way Kasa switches. (I always thought three-way was a confusing term!) The install is pretty easy. Wires are clearly labeled. The only hard part is fitting it in the wall, since the box is a little bigger than a standard switch. But that's to be expected if you are adding remote control convenience! It's very easy to add the switches to the Kasa app, if you don't make the mistake I did. More than once.... If you select the wrong switch in the add device menu, you have to wait for it to time out trying to connect. Or you keep trying to connect and wonder in frustration what is wrong. I accidently selected the smart switch instead of the smart dimmer switch, which is much further down the list. I even once selected the single throw smart dimmer instead of the three-way smart dimmer switch. My mistake every time of course. But I replaced all of the light switches in the house, so there were a lot to go through. At least that's what I keep telling myself. I think it would be helpful if Kasa implemented an auto-detect of the model type during the manual add device process - when the switch is in pairing mode (flashing orange and green). Overall, the switches are great. Love the calibration process and the ability to dim/brighten at the switch, the app, or by linking it with Alexa. And the Alexa integration was super easy. As soon as I finished configuring in Kasa, it showed up in the Alexa device list. Which led me to create groups and scenes! ... show more

  • Kasa great product extremely poor customer service.
I’ve used other products (Philips Hue) that use a hub but when the electricity goes out the lights automatically turn on and the hub has to be reset for lights to work again. This is a problem when your out of town and you have to call a neighbor to turn off you lights. However I’ve switched to Kasa because they works great and I’ve had no problems.when there is an electrical outage they reset on there own without problems. FYI I have over 25 Kasa products which I’ve installed myself. So fair to say I have experience with their products. On my last other from Amazon I ordered the Kasa 3 way dimmer switch kit. (Ks230 kit). The box the switches came in was for the product I ordered. When I attempted to install the switch they didn’t work. Upon closer examination, the switches was for a regular single pole dimmer switch and the second switch was a none dimmer switch. It should be noted that the box itself was missing the seal that indicates if the box was previously opened. I called Kasa and they told me to call Amazon. After calling amazon they issued a return and shipped me a new switch. After receiving the second switch I again noticed that the seal was missing from the box. I attempted to install it but the switch didn’t work. I again called Kasa and again they were not interested helping. They just wanted to push me to call amazon. They were a waste of time and had no interest in resolving the problem. Returned the second dimmer switch and ended installing a dumb dimmer switch. I’ve had Kasa products for approximately 3 years with no problems however pray if you ever need warranty or customer service because they suck at it. Thank god for amazon as I was able to return the product and get a refund. However not happy with amazon that I bought a new product but was shipped twice products that had been previously opened, containing the wrong item and defective product. ... show more

  • Works well in the exact prescribed wiring diagram, but terrible instructions + got one faulty unit!
I had set up other single-pole Kasa switches before, so was expecting a similar streamlined experience. I now realize that although three-way switches are more complex in general, Kasa's product description and setup instructions leave A LOT to be desired. Product description: – There are two completely different switches in this kit (main and satellite). Main has to be wired to line and needs a neutral wire, satellite is wired to load and doesn't need a neutral wire. I thought I could use each of these switches to swap out a single dumb switch from two pairs of three-way switches in my house. This really should be emphasized in the product description. – While trying to diagnose a variety of issues during setup, I realized that there are plenty of different ways to wire three-way switches. I'm not sure how many of them are up to code, but Kasa should make it more clear how to figure out if your configuration is compatible with their switches. Setup: – The instructions ask you to remove both dumb three-way switches and try to find a single live/line/hot wire. I found three wires with my no-contact voltage tester and had to spend a lot of time researching what might be happening. I realized that these kinds of testers are susceptible to false positives and a grounded voltage meter can be used instead to give accurate results. – The instructions made it seem like I could just tie in the neutral to the bundle of neutrals in the back of the box. My breaker kept tripping till I finally realized that the bundle of neutrals actually corresponded to lights in the adjacent room that are on a different circuit. – The neutrals for the correct circuit were in the load-side box, but the instructions didn't provide a way to install the main switch there. I realized later on that the satellite switch ties traveler 2 and load together, which meant that I could just as well tie load to traveler 2 on the main switch since a line wire from the same circuit was also present next to the load wire. Everything ended up working correctly having connected both line and load to the same switch. Device: – I purchased multiple kits. After spending literally hours trying various configurations and exhaustively labeling all the wires when setting up the first kit, I tried the switches from the second kit and to my surprise they worked! My main switch was displaying a solid orange light, so maybe that's an indication of a faulty switch. – Speaking of lights, there's barely any documentation on what they mean, or how to diagnose different issues. I ran into many different issues without an ability to effectively root cause them: both switches didn't turn on, the main turned on but satellite didn't, the main displayed a red light, the main displayed an orange indicator, the main displayed a blinking orange indicator... ... show more
