A stable zinc die-cast base provides the stand with a strong ⅝” threaded connection for even the heaviest microphone. Needed a microphone stand for my son when sings and plays piano. I have a couple bargain stands that are unable to adequately support a microphone with the arm extended for a seated piano player. While somewhat expensive, this stand appears to do the job. It is well constructed and solidly holds a Shure SM-58 at full extension. Packaging and Amazon shipping, however, was not so good. When it finally arrived the box was torn and the base of the stand scuffed up from moving around in the box. Would recommend purchasing from a local source if possible. ... show more

I have a couple of the economy brand of boom stand that Amazon carries. They are ok for a budget minded alternative, but for holding the microphone in the position you need, this higher quality model is worth the money. I have a couple of different mics; one is a wireless Sennheiser 835 and the other is a Shure 58. They have some weight to them, but once I had them in place and tightened the locking knob, they stayed put. Good German quality for a fair price. ... show more

You can tell this mic stand is much sturdier than the lower cost mic stands… which out of fairness, many of them, have served me well for decades. What they HAVEN’T done, is last! The ergonomics of all the moveable parts on the K&M look and feel superior. The low center of gravity really feels superior with the boom fully extended, which for sitting down and playing/singing feels perfect. Previous boom/tripod base mic stands average life span for me has been about 5-7 years of moderate studio/gig use. Initial impressions are that this will live as long as I do - which with good care is what I guess we should expect from a mic stand! ... show more

Factory packaging (not amazon's) came really beat up. The stand was unassembled and much and all the parts were loose in the factory box. With chunks of cardboard missing, it's a wonder the screws and washers didn't fall out and go missing. That said, the K&M stand is the industry standard for a reason. It's a stand that will last a LONG time. I have used a half dozen K&M stands in a school setting for 30 years. With the exception of tightening the hex bolt on the legs occasionally, they're rock solid. This one is no exception - glad to see they haven't changed a winning formula.
