A good mix of matte and glossy, Obsidian AR works well with the 1tb Oled etched screen

I have a 1TB Oled model, with the etched screen, and it is beautiful without a screen protector. A Steam Deck is not a touch screen phone, and you will hardly ever touch the screen really (though there are games and uses for it,) and its not scraping against anything in your pocket. You likely dont need a screen protector if its in its case between use or being used as a home entertainment system all the time. There are lots of people who don't bother with a screen protector and don't regret it because their situation doesn't really put their steam deck screen in danger. But also, this is now in 2026 an expensive up to $1000 piece of equipment, and it's around $100 dollars to fix the screen if its damaged. Pets, kids, travel, cousins, parties; something falls on it, someone scratches their nail on it playing Fruit Ninja or Balatro, who knows. If you out in the world, you know you gotta use protection, and you gotta protect your deck. The Good: -It is practically invisible and natural, like nothing at all. -It is sturdy, you can feel that nothing is gonna pierce or get through that protector. You can pass it to someone and know they aren't gotta mess up your screen. -Seems smudge resistant and the smudges that do get through wipe off easy. -When the Steam Deck is on, the Anti-Reflective kicks in and it looks just like the etched OLED screen I have underneath. To the point you would have to nitpick real hard to think of the difference. It really does look exactly the same and it comes through seamlessly while playing. -This makes me think if you have a non-etched screen, this might replicate the etched level of light diffusion the 1tb OLED model has while gaming, though I can't confirm. -Jsaux gives 2 protectors and god-bless em, because its easy to mess up the first time over 1 dust particle. If you get it first try, you have a bonus protector. Very gamer-coded. The Bad: -$20 for a screen protector set is quite pricey. Yeah it's $10 each, but you have to buy 2. -When the Steam Deck is off, it does have a small, but slightly noticeable bit of reflection than if the 1TB Oled etched screen was naked. It is not a full black mirror like a glossy screen, but I was suddenly seeing myself a bit more in the screen when I turned it off, passed it to a friend, it reflected room lights more when hitting certain angles, passing by while it is sitting in its dock, etc. I do notice it here and there. I am not sure what the experience for non-etched screen users would be. I don't know if it would be better to go matte in that situation or if this does replicate the etched visuals while playing (it really might, in which case I recommend). But as someone with the etched screen, even though the I'm occasionally irked by the slightly more glare/reflection when the device is off, I still keep the AR protector on. When the deck is actually on and I'm gaming, it is indistinguishable from the naked etched screen underneath, and now I also have peace of mind and can live worry-free about screen health. Even noticing that slightly more bit of reflection while the deck is off, I still think it is a 5 star product and keep it on. Very easy to install and fix if you mess up.

The set up is very straight forward and if you’ve applied a protector before like on your phone, this one is even easier in my experience because of the application frame they include, the protector simply just falls into place. I encountered 2 problems when applying, after cleaning the screen and placing the protector I noticed 2 cat hairs under the it a sticking off of the edge. I was able to lift up the protector and remove the hairs and the protector had no issue maintaining its stickiness after this quick removal. I also had about 5-6 bubbles near the bottom because I laid the protector into the frame incorrectly but when I lifted the protector to remove the fur, I took the opportunity to reapply to the bubble areas with better distribution removing all bubbles. Even if you don’t get it perfect the first time, the protector allows for some room for error and you also have the second protector just in case. Easy installation

Easy installation. Wipe clean then use the provided alcohol wipes. Wipe clean again and use the provided sticky to remove any lint. Place the applicator assist on and drop the new glass on top. Clarity is good along with the material. Value is a little more than others but it seems like it'll last from the short time abuse I've put it through. Adhesion is great as it hasn't had any issue coming undone by itself. No scratches so far. ... show more

Took a few tries to get it right

The quality of the screen protector is top-notch, the guide makes it very easy to align correctly and it fits perfectly, BUT! It took me a couple tries to get it correct (that is, without bubbles underneath). The dust-remover sticker also works on the sticky side of the protector to get rid of dust particles, just be careful not to get fingerprints on it since those can't be removed. ... show more

The screen does look good but after applying alot bubbles are still there. Also, my cleaning kit was already open, missing items and both screen didn't have any adhesive on them.

Can't scratch these!

I got one dirty on the sticky side so I couldn't use it. I'm happy it came with two. I tried to scratch one with a knife and couldn't scratch it! I also bent it aggressively and it didnt break! They do have glare but i didnt want a frosted screen protecter for the picture quality.
