I purchased a Joyo Meteor some time ago, and have been very impressed with it. So much so that I bought the Zombie, as well. All the BantAmp series amplifiers have essentially the same feature set, with a tube plus op-amp front end and a class D power stage. This, in itself, doesn't really tell the story, though. Some very intelligent engineering has been done with these amps. Instead of adding every bell and whistle, they've provided a good feature set of all useful and easy to understand functions. Inexpensive amps can often err on the side of trying to give you everything, and doing nothing particularly well. Joyo does not suffer from this problem, in my experience. The controls are simple, with clean/overdrive channels, volume, gain, and tone. Just the stuff you need. There's an effects loop and the bluetooth connection, which is maybe the only superfluous feature. The Meteor, for instance, has a surprisingly good clean tone, and a vintage, raspy overdrive tone that becomes a sharp and cutting lead tone when hit with a Tube Screamer-style pedal. The Zombie, while seeming to be a similar design with the same basic parts, is a different beast, sonically. I don't think the clean is as good as the Meteor. Some of the inherent EQ they had to bake in made it sound a little flat. But you're not getting this amp for its clean (serviceable, sure, but that's not the point). This thing, you get for the tooth-rattling, scare the cat out of the room distortion. The Zombie has tons of gain, more than most people will need. Even wheezy single coil pickups should be able to get all the overdrive they would ever need. I haven't ever owned a Mesa Dual Rectifier, but if you want that full-tilt metal sound, where palm-muted chugs punch you in the gut and pinch harmonics are rendered twice as easy, the Zombie does that. You can back off and get a less "metal in all your face holes" sound, sure. But do you want to? Depending on your rig and tuning, you might need some kind of bass cut/mid push pedal to tighten things up, but with medium output humbuckers and standard tuning, things are pretty tidy and defined with no assistance. This is a brutish, bloody knuckles little amp. And worth every penny. Nice job, Joyo. ... show more

  • It has a great tone and through the 4x12 it has decent volume
Received this 5 days ago, tried it out the other night at band practice. I am running this through a Marshall 4x12 @ 16 ohms. My band mates were laughing there heads off when i plugged this little wonder in! They stopped laughing when they heard it! It has a great tone and through the 4x12 it has decent volume. Not loud enough to get over the rest of the band without micing the cab, but I did anticipate this would be the case. I think the best use of this amp is as a home practice amp, good tone, decent volume. I like the effects loop and for the price it is a worthy practice amp. For my situation, I will use this as a gigging backup amp. There is nothing worse than getting to a gig only to discover your amp has failed. This is a small, light little screamer that could get you through the gig if you mic the cabinet ... show more

  • Could’ve saved myself some serious coin
I want to write this review to hopefully give assistance to anyone looking to buy this Zombie head. I’ve been playing guitar for 17 years and have used/bought many different pieces of gear over that time period. I like to play Rock, Blues and sometimes want to shred some Metal riffs. I’m gonna try not to make this too long but I recently just spent about $1,000 on amp gear to try to get a rig that sounds good in my room. I first bought a used Fender Super Champ XD combo used off Craigslist and swapped out the tubes and ditched the 10” Fender stock speaker and ordered a handmade custom blue Weber 10” speaker which sounds killer and that little amp gives me beautiful Fender cleans and classic Rock crunch. Then I bought a new Fender Super Champ X2 head and the matching Fender closed back 12” Cab and replaced the stock Chinese Celestion with a brand new Eminence Legend 12” speaker hoping both of these would allow me to get everything from Fender cleans to Heavy Metal riffage but the Metal tones from the digital presets still weren’t quite as “legit” is the best way id describe it. So I already spent all this money and figured I was gonna have to make do. Then I remembered seeing these Joyo amp heads on Amazon a while back and decided to check out the Zombie which is supposed to be a Mesa Boogie clone and for basically the price of a pedal I figured what the hell, all I need is a Metal tone so if it does that hooked up to the new Fender 12” cab with the nice new Eminence speaker then I’ll be happy, money well spent. Let me tell you, this far exceeded my expectations. I’m not associated with any companies and have no incentive to heap praise on anyone or anything. This thing gives me all I wanted to begin with and if I’d started here I could’ve saved myself a lot of coin. Not only does it nail the Mesa Boogie thick Metal Crunch that I love (even better with my Maxon OD9 pedal in front of it just for a little more tightness) but the clean channel actually sounds really good too. I was definitely surprised. No it’s not the classic chimey Fender clean but there’s tons of different types of clean sounds (or distorted sounds) so Fender tone dosent mean “best” tone. I mean Marshall has a unique clean tone way different than Fender clean but many people prefer that so who’s to say which is “best.” All I can say is through my 1x12 cab and this Joyo Zombie I get a great clean tone either with my Strat single coils or my Charvel humbuckers they all sound great and when I want to hammer out some “legit” sounding Metal riffs well I can do that now too. So anyone who wants a cheap quick rig that can cover everything from pedal platform cleans to monster heavy riffs I would highly suggest buying one of these and just get a minimum 8ohm speaker cab with at least a 12” speaker and there you go, your off to the races enjoying creating guitar noises. ... show more
