I took this on vacation to the mountains, and there was not place to set the tripod down, so I took it and wrapped it around a tree. Very versatile and will work in any place you need. It will only hold the phone in landscape, but that shouldn't make a difference. Recommend the purchase.

I'm a fan of Joby products in general and the gorilla pods are awesome. I really enjoy this addition to my iPhone photography kit because the phone holder easily accommodates my iPhone 6plus in a normal sized case with no problem and the tripod easily supports the weight. My only observation is that when it says XL, I expected to get their much larger gorillapod, not the standard small one. I'm sure if I'd have look more closely at the actual dimensions I'd have figured it out, but just looked quickly at XL and made an assumption. That said, I'm not at all unhappy with the functionality of this product at all, I just wanted a larger one for trees etc. This product easily fits into a day pack or even your back pocket (it will stick out) and adapts quickly to just about any surface, grips and holds very well as does the head that holds your phone. I recently purchased the Joby GorillaPod Stand for LARGE PHONES. As seen in the images, I use a silicone sleeve by Apple for my iPhone XSMAX. At this point the device is stiff to adjust, Perhaps I expected it to hold my phone in portrait orientation more, when it obviously likes the landscape orientation better. I'm always aware of keeping the bottom of my iPhone clear to avoid heat buildup but also to transmit my voice on calls, or to record notes/memos. The GorillaPod photos show it on a glass topped table, bed sheets, and an upholstered chair. It was fairly stable, but an Otter Box or bulky sleeve would not be easily balanced and steady. I personally would like a black/chartreuse color combination, much easier to see. And, a bit longer legs to fit around objects. More flexibility would allow me to hang it on the window of my van pointed outside or at the road ahead to snap images of my upcoming route turn markers etc, especially with the location feature of the phone enabled. I can trigger the camera lens with my Apple watch, quite easily, never touching the phone nor bothering the pairing of the phone to my vehicle for phone calls. Using the camera from this setup needs checking, in case road vibration makes the images unacceptable. As it is, I will take the Gorillapod with me for camping or for travel, to make sure I keep my iPhone above wet surfaces and more visible when I am busy and lay it down somewhere. Perhaps even hanging from the visor or rearview mirror when I use the GPS function....removing the phone from a hot dashboard is always a good idea. Now THAT would be quite handy. The GorillaPod might even fit my Garmin GPS attached to the visor, off the hot dash where it slides out of reach on some roads! The takeaway in my review is: the GorillaPod is acceptable, a good concept, but not quite universally appropriate. I'm keeping it. ... show more

This gorillapod is great for holding a phone or camera steady in situations where you don't want to carry a full tripod. I've used it around a railing to take long exposure pictures of fireworks, hanging from a branch to take a selfie in the woods, and even just as a normal tripod on a table. The legs are easy to bend, but hold their shape under the weight of a small camera or phone. The genuine GripTight phone holder included with this tripod alone is worth the price of this bundle, and can be used on any standard tripod. It does a great job of holding my HTC 10 secure. I had the smaller phone holder before, and it was a bit of a squeeze with my phone in a case, but this one holds it with ease. It is thin enough to hold the phone without pressing any of the buttons, but still keeps the phone secure. Best of all, it folds down flat for easy storage or slipping in a pocket. I've also tried some third-party phone holder attachments for gorillapods, but they've all been much harder to insert the phone, too wide to avoid buttons, and didn't fold down flat. ... show more

I’m super disappointed in this tripod. I have a joby tripod and I love it. This one however is so flimsy. I don’t know how they can claim it holds larger cell phones when a small gust of wind would knock it over. The legs just aren’t large enough to make it feel stable and there is only one way that your phone can be held in the tripod and that is landscape mode. I’d love to return the product but I foolishly threw away the box prior to testing out the product. ... show more
