I used the 2 inch version of this as well, and had a fair amount of issues getting the backing to peel off nicely. I did not have any of those issues with this bigger roll. I got the bigger ones thinking they'd be better for my double joists around the perimeter of the deck, however I probably should have looked more closely. These rolls are only 3" and the double joists are a bit over 3" in places where the boards are not straight so they don't work well for that. The 2 inch rolls are pretty good at covering single joists themselves, and at the time I got these, they were less than half the price of the 3" rolls. Unless you you need the 3" size for something specific, I think the 2" ones are a better value and option for single joists. Otherwise the adhesion and use of these ones are as expected.

The 3 inch width is ideal for covering double deck joists. Most deck designs end up having some doubled up deck joists, and the 3 inch width of this stuff is the way to go, it reduces the chances of water getting between two narrower strips (and between your doubled up joists - preventing rot), but it is twice as fast to install vs. two strips side by side. Earlier this season had the chance to compare 4 different lesser known brands of deck joist tape. They all look the same, with a smooth pliable black outer layer, and a fairly thick sticky gray adhesive on the inside protected by a peel-away backer. For the test, I placed strips of each to a piece of PT wood, and left out in the sun and elements for days, and then tested which ones adhered the best. The results were all pretty close. They all stuck pretty well, even after just a few days. I found that JOAPRIL stuck the 3rd best in my line up as it was the 3rd most difficult to peel off out of the 4 that I tested, but the rest were all pretty close contenders (with marginal difference in adhesion strength). All in all, I think this is a pretty decent product that will, ultimately, get the job done!

Nicely packed rolls. Love that they are individually wrapped so they didn’t stick together, and you can start one roll without compromising the second roll’s packaging. Easy to peel and apply, but like all flashing tape, don’t let it stick to itself! If you’re still trying to wrap aluminum around complicated decking flashing you’re wasting time when products like this are out there.

Wide and sticky tape. It's really 3" wide. You can cut it in half and double the length for 2-inch lumber (which is actually 1.5"). It's a little thin in my opinion. Other than that, pretty good Joist Tape. Does its job.

I got this to go onto my new deck install which is around my salt-water pool. I know water itself wears on a deck so I am hoping that this will help out since I have salt in my pool as well. There is a lot of tape on these two rolls and I was able to put tape on a 24'x18' deck main support beams and about 8 of the 2x6 joist with using both of them. I could have used more but I covered enough so that the salt water will not reach unless someone is really just throwing it on the deck. It just happened to rain immediately after I stuck the tape on the joist and it beaded right up where the rest of the pressure treated wood soaked the rain right in. These stick fairly well and you can reposition the tape if you don't press down super hard otherwise it will mess up the tape and it won't stick as well when you try again. The only thing to watch out for is when you go to slide your boards across the joist make sure to pick them up or slide them on other deck boards as it will roll the tape off some. Once you screw the board down this tape will go nowhere. For the price this isn't a bad investment if it just half-way works in the long run to extend your deck life.
