  • Well made, worth the money!
I've had one of the $20 basic USB microscope for a few years and have found it useful, but was frustrated by the poor quality plastic stand that it came with. That plastic stand had no stability and was a real pain to focus and use the 'scope. This nicely-made aluminum stand makes that old USB microscope MUCH more useful because of the stability, adjustbility, and smooth focus operation. While a $20 640 x 480 USB microscope along with this stand is not the equal of a $180 1900 x 1080 microscope, for a total outlay of under $40 you have something that is very usable for the hobbyist in a number of fields. I use it to read laser-etched type numbers on small solid-state electronic parts, to inspect the BGA contacts on motherboards, identify insects, and just look at tiny stuff up close. The metalwork on this stand is really quite good. The base has a little weight to it, and overall finish is better than you'd expect at this price level. I would like to add one caution: when screwing the arm into the threaded hole in the base bracket, go slowly and make sure you are not cross-threading it. I have a tendency to rush things and might have cross-threaded it if I had not slowed down a bit. ... show more

  • Outstanding product
I have tried a few of the inexpensive digital microscopes available from Celestron etc. While the 'scopes themselves are pretty good considering the price, the stands have always been problematical. They don't support the unit well and trying to focus is a real chore. This stand holds the 'scope securely and makes it easy to focus so using the microscope becomes a pleasure rather than a chore. The stand itself is very rugged. It is all aluminum which assembles easily even though there are no instructions included. Just use Amazon's picture at the top of the page as a guide. Just be careful not to cross-thread the upright when screwing it into the support. ... show more

  • Great stand for Celestron Micro Pro USB!
This stand I bought when I bought my Celestron Micro Pro USB microscope. I read reviews that the stand that came with it was terrible. This stand was in the recommended part of the microscope page so I read the reviews on it and bought it. It is a very solid stand that holds the microscope securely and allows for decent adjustments. This is not a high end stand but it certainly makes the cheap USB microscopes much much more sturdy and makes them feel more expensive. Honestly I was surprised at the quality of this. And it includes a nice carry case that would fit the USB microscope and the stand if I ever want to take it on trips with me! Well done! ... show more

  • New life for USB microscope
Just got this delivered today and it looks to be another wonder of CNC milling techniques that makes something like this inexpensive and well-made. The fit and finish are excellent, It went together easily, fits my USB "microscope" perfectly and securely and has a smooth action that will allow close focusing. The microscope was more of a curiosity than a useful tool because of the poor stability of the stand that it came with...potential but frustratingly unreachable due to instability. This will allow adjusting of lighting, magnification and focus without disturbing the object under study. I bought the USB "microscope" with the idea of using it as a fine soldering aid but that was a false hope due to the instability. I was able to "jury rig" a stand but it was shaky and hard to focus I tried several years later to examine the stylus tip of my stereo cartridge and sort of succeeded...at least I could see the accumulated dust and crap and removing that improved my sound quite a bit. I haven't gotten back to that yet but the much improved stability promises to be a big assist. The only "con" I can see is the little bit of slop in the focus pinion on the rack. If that were gone, it would be perfect, but it does not translate to motion of the scope so it is not a big deal. ... show more

  • Outstanding product!
I'm extremely happy with this stand. It's quite small, but just right for mounting the microscope camera into. It's made of metal, has crisp cut teeth on the upright, which makes adjusting the height very easy and very accurate. It is coated in a silver finish of unknown composition, but looks nice, reflects a scattered light and looks porous under the microscope. Overall I don't believe I could buy a better stand than this one. It's far and away better than the original that came with the microscope. Totally worth every penny! I highly recommend this product if neatness and accuracy are important to your project or hobby. ... show more

  • Necessary accessory for the little USB microscopes.
This little stand is awesome. It's very helpful for focusing in on what you're looking at. It's way more stable than holding the microscope camera, or the lame little mount they include. That's the point I guess! The circle dials on the side make it really easy to focus. The knob on the back tightens or loosens the tension for the microscope holder. The camera mount uses little tension knobs to keep it in place, which works well with enough room to access to the "zoom" function on the camera. It's worth the price for sure. I really like it. I've been geeking out over it, and that makes my kids get excited too :) We started using black construction paper to move around the little things we're looking at. That works amazingly well. Also, keep in mind, it's a $20 accessory. Expectations need to stay in check. The tolerances aren't great. it's not a precision unit. Gripes: 1. The color of the base is silver... I'm going to be painting it black (if I care enough. I'm not sure yet). It causes the image to become overexposed if the item we are looking at doesn't fill the frame enough. Our fix was to use the black construction paper, which turns out to also be very convenient for moving the item around. I know it probably wouldn't look as cool, but it would function better if it was black anodized instead of the silver finish it has. 2. Why did they make the arm that goes from the base plate to the vertical pole so thin? It flexes when you use the little knobs on the side. ... show more
