  • Easily the best sub-$15 pen that I have encountered.
Color: Wine Red (Gold Trim) Style: Extra Fine
About the only realistic value comparison is the Jinhao X159, which was also a value breakthrough when it was released. But I find the 9019 a great improvement. The build quality feels like a major step up -- the overall fit/finish is very good. The plastic is satisfyingly thick in all areas, and doesn't feel flimsy anywhere. Very large and attractive nib. Also, I flushed the nib with water before use, and found traces of blue ink -- this confirmed other reports that Jinhao is doing some actual QC steps/testing on the nib/feed. It was reflected in a perfect writing experience that required zero nib adjustment out of the box. Better than many high-end pens I've owned. This adds enormous value at this price point. My nib is EF, which is highly recommended if you need to do any small writing or math. These Chinese nibs tend to run large. Best to think of them as one size larger than advertized. The pen holds an excellent quantity of ink -- the new converter design holds more than double that of a standard international converter. A very welcome improvement. I went with the wine color, which I find pleasing. Nothing spectacular, but nice. The size and shape are extremely comfortable to my long fingers. Possibly the most comfortable writer I have. But, this is an area that you'll need to think about -- the pen is very big, compared to the average fountain pen. It's large enough that certain modes of carry start to become inconvenient. For this reason, I don't use it as a "carry everywhere" pen, which is a bit of a pity, because the price/quality/features would otherwise make it ideal for that kind of use. Almost nothing can compare at this price. Two of my other value favorites are the asvine v126 and the penbbs 480. But, each of those are *multiples* of the 9019's price. ... show more

  • My favorite fountain pen
Color: Wine Red (Gold Trim) Style: Extra Fine
I bought the Jinhao 9019 after purchasing several other Jinhao pens and being impressed with their quality. After using it for the last few weeks it has become my favorite. With a rack filled with a dozen pens I unconsciously reach for the 9019 every time. The things I like: It’s BIG. It’s the biggest pen I own and fills the hand well. That means finer control. My penmanship using this pen is markedly better. Yet, it’s light enough that I can write for long periods without fatigue. The nib (it’s an extra fine) is smooth and contributes to the ease of writing. The flow with a quality ink like Diamine allows fine lines and as small a print as I can write. My only complaint is that it only comes in solid colors and the number of colors is limited. My wish is for Jinhao to produce this pen in fancier patterns, like the model 100. ... show more

  • This is an attractive pen.
Color: Wine Red Clear (Gold Trim) Style: Medium
I got the transparent wine model, and I would say it is very red wine in color, even having some woody notes in the dark, haha. Choose this for yourself or a pen lover that likes their barrels and grips, BEEFY! The widest part of the barrel is 16.5mm! The narrowest part of the section is 13mm, but the part of the grip you’ll probably land on is ~14mm. The nib is likely a Bock or at least it appears as one of their designs. It is attractive, two-tone, with Jinhao and their logo, and a standard Bock-style “drape” engraving, and on mine, an M for medium. The nib is very smooth across paper. If you’re used to pushing your pen, you might have to ease up and let this one guide you a bit. Enhance your zen. The cap is a screw on. I haven’t tested how airtight it is yet. It is a 2 twist, a good flick of the wrist and you can unscrew this quickly. Much better than something with more than 3 twists. And also not so easy to loosen that you will worry about it in your pocket, as a 1. Speaking of pockets, this pen is perfect for winter, because its clip has a nice box interface with the cap, which can accommodate 2.5 mm of fabric, such as a winter suit coat. This is a great addition to someone’s collection that enjoys transparent pens. ... show more

  • It is a great value. You may require a tweaking of the nib
Color: Wine Red (Gold Trim) Style: Medium
Often, pens like this aren’t the best for beginners, because the nib requires a little “help” to get it to write well. That was my case. But after about 15 minutes, Inhad this writing like a champ. It’s a very inexpensive pen, so even if I wreck the nib, it’s not the end of the world. However, I’ve been working with fountain pens for a very long time and while not a nibsmith, I kind of know what I’m doing. Chances are, even if you had to slip somebody a few bucks to tune your nib, the combined cost will be far less than the perceived value of the pen. Mine writes like many of my $100+ pens. You may even get lucky andnhave one that performs great, right out of the box. Either way, it’s a definite recommendation from me, ... show more

  • Incredible value, looks very nice, very large body
Color: Piano Black (Gold Trim) Style: Extra Fine
Pros: - This is one of my favorites in my collection, it looks very classy - The nib writes very well - The oversize cartridge is great Cons: - The clip is VERY stiff, so it's not too useful - The pen is also very thick. I knew this going in, but it still fatigues my hand after writing for a while. It also makes it not fit into some pen holders Overall, I really like the pen. I'll probably end up getting another one some time... clear? blue? I'm not sure yet. ... show more

  • Love it!
Color: Dark Blue (Gold Trim) Style: Medium
For the price, this is an awesome fountain pen. It comes with an oversized converter, which is bonus. The nib writes smooth and wet (M). Only down side is the rattle caused by the converter, doesn’t post and there clear signs of injection molding all over the pen. Not bad at all for the price. I would recommend this pen. ... show more

  • Holy cow!
Color: Wine Red (Gold Trim) Style: Medium
I did not realize just how HUGE this pen is. It's almost comically large. Once I got over that initial reaction, I tried the pen out and realized that it is great! It writes smoothly, feels surprisingly good in the hand ( I have large hands ), and holds like three times the ink of a standard international converter. I'm going to order one in ever color. ... show more

  • Above the Cost
Color: Wine Red (Gold Trim) Style: Medium
The nib is better than the cost would dictate. The plastic cap and body are thin and superficially scratched. However, the steel nib, trim and clip are without damage. The writing experience is better than many more expensive fountain pens.
