  • Love this for new seedlings
Color: 1 Bag (10 QT)
This was the second time that I have used this product and I love it. The dirt is fine enough for seeds and doesn’t have a lot of big chunks of bark in it. Seems to be high quality as my seeds almost always sprout in it and grow fast! It’s a little expensive but I think it worth the money! I will definitely buy again! ... show more

  • Works great if you know how to use it.
Color: 1 Bag (10 QT)
I started using this product after reading comments online from tomato and pepper growing professionals. It's worked for me - no issues whatsoever. Some reviewers claimed the seed starting mix never soaked up water, either bottom-up or top-down. That's simply not how this stuff is supposed to work. You need to wet it before putting it in the containers. I typically add water to the mix in a pail or plastic bin, and "cut" the water in with a trowel. Just keep mixing and chopping, and eventually this will wet the soil. You want it to be the consistency of devil's food cake - still light and fluffy but moist at the same time. This isn't difficult - it takes maybe a minute or so to wet a gallon or two of soil. The best system I ever saw for filling seed starting trays is the following. Simply dump the soil over the tray, and quickly spread it into all of the holes. Scrape off the excess with whatever you have - a ruler, piece of cardboard, your bare hand, whatever. Then here is the trick - pick up the tray about 4-6" and drop it onto a level surface. The sudden impact will compact the soil perfectly, getting rid of air pockets, and leaving the soil the perfect density for seed starting. I usually do this twice, spreading soil again, leveling, and dropping the tray one more time. Once all of the cells are filled, I make an indentation in each cell with a pencil eraser to the desired depth. Then I add the seeds, and knock the edges of the hole in with my finger to cover the seeds. I mist the cells with water to moisten the soil and get rid of any remaining air pockets. Make sure you cover the cells with plastic so that they stay moist throughout germination. You shouldn't have to add water again if you have a good cover. ... show more

  • High quality mix. Great for starting seeds and as s casing fir mushroom substrate as well.

I've purchased this twice. Once for starting seeds and once as a casing layer for mushroom substrate, as I cultivate plants and mushrooms. Excellent product!

  • light to prevent root rot.
Color: 1 Bag (10 QT)
This is fluffy light starter mix. I usually put a small amount of regular soil in bottom of pot and then add this to top 1/3 layer before adding seeds. Or use it exclusively if using seed starter plug trays. All my seeds germinate nicely in this mix and once roots grow, holds the mix together well when transplanting. ... show more
