    • Apparently, There's More Involved Here Than It Seems

First off, this is described as a 3000 watt device. Yet, the plug on the end of the power cord is a standard, grounded 120 volt plug. The type that plugs into an ordinary 120 volt AC outlet. Virtually every such outlet is rated for 15 amps while some are rated for 20 amps. Meaning the most power such an outlet can deliver is nominally 2400 watts depending on the line voltage. Most run-of-the-mill outlets are rated for 15 amps. Which would reduce the power to 1800 watts assuming 120 volts. Regardless, such outlets aren't designed to deliver 3000 watts to a load. Higher amperage (and power) outlets and plugs are available for 120 volt applications. But, the plug prongs are arranged differently and are larger. Additionally, for an outlet to deliver the specified 32 amps, it would have to be wired with larger gauge wire than is typically used in circuits which feed these "normal" outlets. All of the above is an attempt to point out why the potential buyer shouldn't expect to use a device, which recommends a 32 amp minimum breaker size, on a regular, plain old, 120v circuit/outlet. Note: The water heater is rated at 3000 watts. At 120 volts, that would be 3000/120 = 25 amps. The 32 amp spec could be to allow for start-up surges. The inlet and outlet fittings on the water heater are 1/2" male pipe threads. The cord is marked 2.5mm². Which, according to my sources, is equivalent to 14 AWG. Again, this is an issue because 14 AWG conductors are limited to 15 amps. There are some things to like about this water heater: It is compact, easy to control and even has a remote control. However, with all of the powering issues, discrepancies and conundrums, I cannot recommend it. Primarily because the cord and plug appear to be inappropriate for a 3,000 watt appliance. From my perspective, if the 3,000 watt and 32 amp figures are accurate, a new power cable and plug would be required in order to allow this unit to operate properly. Or, it would need to be hard-wired. (Code may or may not allow this.) Along with a power source (circuit) properly sized and protected by an appropriately sized circuit breaker. The cord and plug alone would likely cost more than $20. The electrical work could run into the hundreds. This does not appear to be a plug-and-play device. ... show more

This unit feels solid and looks good. Unfortunately it does not come with a plug so I will need to find time for the right plug and to wire it before doing a proper review.

This provides plenty of hot water for my sinks and washing machine, and it only took a few minutes to hook up! The water gets more than hot enough for doing dishes or washing clothes, and I havent had any issues doing both at once. I'm not sure if it could provide enough hot water to also run the shower, but it works great for our uses! ... show more
