  • Weak Sound, Weaker ANC, No Case—fir $100+.
Color: Black
I finally ordered my first wireless over ear “noise cancellation” headphones, received these a week ago. I didn’t want to buy cheap junk, so I picked these JBLs as a safe-feeling mid-price name brand choice—I shouldn’t have to pay $200-$400 to get decent headphones to listen to my iPhone music. Unfortunately, that may be the case? The wireless headphone market seems dominated by overpriced “good” headphones and low- to mid- priced bad or not good enough headphones. So, we all bought, or you are considering, these JBLs. The reality is I think “JBL”—the Trump business model, these aren’t actually made by the JBL we used to know—found a sweet spot where a brand name is offered for competitive price (cheaper than the much more expensive options just one rung up, but expensive enough to make you think it should be good). So—I did the same thing you probably will: bought them based on a Google-generated set of remarkably good reviews in trustworthy media sites that will convince you you’re making an informed and smart purchase that combines quality with price. Here’s the deal: 1) THE SOUND: I’m not sure what the online reviewers are listening to, but the sound with these is JUST OK. Which, for me, and maybe you, isn’t quite good enough when you spend $100+, but not bad enough to return and spend $200+ at the roulette table for another pair. The sound is good and clear, but *THEY ARE QUIET.* Someone else said “they pound”—that person is WRONG, or works at “JBL.” Upon the very first listening, I was disappointed to feel like the loudest the volume would go was at least two notches lower than it should be. They are just a little too quiet, which isn’t what you want your first impression to be out of the box. Someone else mentioned PROBLEMS AT LOW END—that person is RIGHT. It’s very disappointing to read positive reviews about the sound only to hear the bass on some tracks cause heavy fuzz/static so casually—even considering these headphones already are quiet. It’s impossible to make these “pound”—moderate to strong bass tracks cause them to crackle significantly and ruin the music, you’ll be turning them down almost to mid volume to get rid of that static. And notwithstanding how quiet these are, the STRONG UNCOMFORTABLE PRESSURE they needlessly employ to make that weak sound wears out your ears. This much pressure on your ear drum should come from “pounding” sound, not an underpowered Low Pressure front in your cans. So, unfortunately, it’s neither the quality nor volume of the sound, nor fit—these ARE comfortable—that wears you out, it’s the pointless high pressure hurting your ears to no benefit that causes you to take these off. ...So, you muddle on listening to “JUST OK” headphones, which, to be clear, is technically “OK”, because like me, you probably think spending $400 to maybe definitely get better sound is the kind of thing jerks do. Like buying an Audi instead of a VW, or a Lexus instead of a Toyota, or an Infinity instead of a Nissan, you get the point. Those folks are probably jerks who also paid $400+ for headphones just because. 2) NOISE CANCELLATION. Umm...Again, some “professional” reviewers cite the solid ANC performance, they are WRONG, others complain the ANC is weak, they are RIGHT. Look, I’m pretty convinced most over the ear headphones—when playing music—are going to keep most or all the sound that will bother you out and you’ll enjoy your music just fine. If you’re listening to music next to a revving 737, step away from the airplane. If you need them to just keep sound out at work because you skipped your Ritalin, go buy something from a sporting goods store—and stop asking the boss for special accommodations already, whiner. I don’t think I can tell a difference with ANC on or off on these. What I do notice is the soft HISSING when you turn them on. I think ANC is a gimmick almost no one really needs, at JBL and probably at the other more expensive brands, to convince us all we need to be spending more money on “good” or “better” headphones—it certainly works for the Audi drivers. Let’s all be honest about this: 90% or more of the time we are using our headphones in an environment where we don’t need ANC. I bought this model because they only cost $20 more than the non-ANC model so I figured why not? See, their gimmick worked! The reviews convinced me I would notice basically a better listening environment for that twenty bucks, and I don’t. Do yourself a favor: step back from the 737, save the $20+, and buy the “next model down” without ANC; I promise you that you are not going to miss anything. 3) NO CASE: Others are right, it’s surprisingly annoying when you actually get these, spend a few days rationalizing with yourself you don’t really need a case or bag to keep them in, and then by day 3 or 4 you feel like a dupe having paid your $100+ to have loose headphones and wires migrating from your kitchen counter, to your dresser, to your coffee table, to your backpack, to an economy seat by the lavatory 34,000 feet up, wherever—without a conveyance for them. So we all will have to buy a case—probably the cheapest one you find on...Amazon. For $100+, “JBL” should give us a case it costs them $2 to source. I mean. Stop in at a truck stop shop at a highway travel plaza—the $19.99 ones have a case...and MAYBE they sound as good.? SO, in closing. I kind of feel stuck with these. They don’t stink, I’m not convinced I’ll find better at this price or lower and am maybe too lazy to box these back up and drive to the UPS Store. But they are not as good as I expected and you probably would expect for $100+. RECOMMENDATION #1: Screw it, buy a pair you've never heard of at half the price that some click farm in Romania—and Amazon’s exceedingly weak quality control—earns 4 stars or higher. I mean, can $50 headphones and a Romanian click farm be THAT BAD? But if they are, then, RECOMMENDATION #2 is get off the couch you lazy bum, go to the UPS Store, return those hunks of junk, and get your $50 back. Then order the JBLs without ANC. And if you really need to know—I DRIVE A FIVE YEAR OLD SUBARU. ... show more

  • Renewed seems brand new!!
Color: White
These came in original packaging and look totally brand new. I bought these for work as I work from home and make quite a few calls, but don't like the type of headphones that have the external mic arm that comes closer to your mouth. These are perfect. They're comfortable and the quality of both the microphone and the speakers are great. Great price for high quality! ... show more

  • Excellent sound quality for the price
Color: Black
Great sound quality, not very bass heavy if you are into that but still sounds great with any music.

  • Comfy, decent bass, good battery life
Color: Black
Got these for a trip abroad. Great on the plane. Really good sound. Good batt life. Got 12 to 15 hours off a full charge. Big enough ear cups to cover my ears completely without devouring my whole head. Not too heavy. Didn't pinch but were snug. Very happy with them 😊

  • Good but not super great
Color: White
Disclaimer-- I got these off of Amazon Warehouse. They were a good deal at sub 100 dollar level. I don't think I would be as happy if I had paid full price. The good-- --My partner talks to his friends in this fog horn leg horn voice continually on playstation. These will block him out at about 70%. In comparison, I have a pair of bose comfort earbuds. Those will block him out at 100%. But they also cost me nearly $280. --These sound great with movies and tv streaming. I watched Dune on HBO Max with these and it is a great sound experience. -- The battery! The battery! OMG I have never had headphones hold their charge like this. The last time I charged these was Sunday during the day. It is now Thursday night (I use them for at least an hour or two per night) and I have 70% charge left. The meh --If you have a super big head, these headphones will not be for you. I have a smallish head and these are definitely tight on my head. Not uncomfortable per se but it is noticeable. --They don't come with a case? Of any kind? I went ahead and bought the $20 case that Amazon recommended and they fit perfectly in there. -- Music. Now-- I am NOT one of these headphone snobs--BUT... These headphones do not sound super great listening to spotify. I can't put my finger on it but there is something that I don't like or it just sounds off. It is not a huge deal-- like I said with movies/TV they sound great-- but if you want to use them for music exclusively, you might notice the something in the background that I am hearing. -- I got these off of Amazon Warehouse like I mentioned. I was supposed to get a cable that can be used to connect wired to a device. The cable was missing... Not a huge deal as that cable runs $8-- but if you buy these off the Warehouse, just be aware. -- White was the only color available on the warehouse. I had never had white headphones before and they were such a good deal, I decided to try them. The white is a BRIGHT white. You have seen people who have those BRIGHT white tennis shoes-- it is the same sort of thing. I will only be wearing these inside the house so its OK. -- Pairing can be wonky. You just have to keep trying. But once you have a connection they never ever drop. So, final verdict-- I would say if you buy them at the sub 100 dollar level, they are definitely worth it. Nose cancelling is good but not great-- battery is GREAT and if you watch streaming movies and TV-- GREAT. ... show more
