I was actually a little concerned about fit since I have had little luck with past ear buds and considering the price, reasonably so. I found thought that the fit was the best I had ever had with ear buds! One drawback is the price. They don't come cheap. So was the high price worth it? Well, I found the sound to be better than most of the ear buds I have tried. That was a plus. As for the ambient sound vs noise reduction, there is a HUGE difference compared to the others! I was drving a loud noisy diesel truck and it had no bluetooth. Of course, even if it did, I probably wouldn't be able to hear it over the diesel noise that is so prevalent. The JBL Aeros overcame the noise with no problem. I mentioned fitment. I have trouble getting ear buds to stay in my ear. And since these are waterproof, I was planning on using them at my complex swimming pool so retention was critical. It took me a little effort to figure out how to get them to fit my ear properly. But once I did, they stayed unlike the others. They also have 3 different cups to fit various ear sizes. Those plusses made them worth it to me. The reason I didn't give them 4 stars is the price. They are head and shoulders above the prices of any I have so far looked at. In fact, on average I would dare say double that of most ear buds. For me they were worth it.     • Weird fit, poor performance

Tried these after the top rated Wirecutter pair failed in a different way. These performed well for about a month. The case is designed to look rugged and athletic, but it is hard and feels fragile, like a drop of a few feet would break it. I tried a different size of ear tips when I kept getting messages that the seal wasn't good enough. That's when the problems started. First, when removing the ear buds and putting them back in the case, I found they still stayed paired to the phone and drained the battery if not manually unpaired. The earbuds also had to be fiddled with to start the charging process. Then, during insertion I would randomly get a loud, piercing squeal in my ear. Now, the earbuds aren't charging unless plugged into AC. The blue charging light has stopped working entirely. Pairing is also unreliable at this point, with occasional "battery low" messages even after overnight charging. ... show more

You'd think that with 3 different sizes of caps & wings, you'd easily find a fit that works, and while I found a comfortable combination with the left ear very quickly, I just couldn't find anything that made the right earbud stay in. I've never had this problem before, but the middle size cap was too large while the small was too smal, and all the wings seemed to be actively pushing the earbud away from my ear. It would actually fall out of my ear onto the floor when I smiled or spoke. Maybe I got a defective pair? I have no idea how this could happen, since the left earbud fit absolutely perfectly and stayed in place even when I tried to shake it out. If you can get them to fit, they're great. The sound was good out of the box, a little crisp for my taste but easily adjusted with the JBL app. Pairing with two devices is a great feature and was straightforward once I figured out the instructions - they were IKEA-style instructions with just images instead of words, which was annoying at first. Noise cancellation was excellent without any of the oppressive white noise you can sometimes get. The hear-through mode worked really well but had way too much high end, making everything sound fake and grating. Audio performance was equal to the Beats Fit Pro, which are the same in-ear wing style but almost twice the price. The plastic felt a little cheap and the touch buttons would still activate when they were in my hand. I wish the caps had been made of a different material, which might have made them stay in my ear better, but it was a smooth comfortable silicone the didn't feel like it'd tear easily. A good value and I recommend giving them a shot before springing for something more expensive - I'd have happily kept them if they'd just stayed in my ears! ... show more

    • The JBL earbuds stay in your ears when running

First, I bought the Bose, but the first pair's left ear soon died. Send them back and reordered them. The second pair developed the same problem. Sound quality and noise cancellation were superb. Next, I bought the new Sony earbuds which had a great conversation feature--if you talk, they shut down for a bit. The sound quality was almost up to the Bose, but they would not stay in my ears while I sat at my desk. I changed earbuds and bought silicone ones, but they still fell out too easily. Finally, after reading tech recommendations in the NY Times, I bought the JBL earbuds, which didn't have the sound quality or the intense noise cancellation of the Bose or Sony but stayed in my ears while I ran. If Bose gets their act together, those are great. If you plan to use your earbuds during exercise, the JBLs are the best. ... show more

    • I really wanted to like this but…

I had these ear buds for about a month and they immediately gave me issues. Each little problem in and of itself wasn’t a deal breaker but combined it just became too difficult to use while running. First, the fit was never great. They’d constantly fall out of my ears while I was running. There were also connectivity issues on both sides of the coin - sometimes they would disconnect while I was running; other times the earbuds would randomly connect while in the case. While talking on the phone with the earbuds there was constantly an echo and I could not focus on my conversations. finally the Alexa companion would never work. Even after setting it up in the Alexa app and ensuring it was paired in the JBL app I could never seem to get it to work where I would receive audio messages through the headphones. The only redeeming quality about this system was that the charging connection in the case was fantastic. Lots of earbuds struggle to get a firm connection, but I found the earbuds would easily slip into the charging port. ... show more
