  • The Sound Quality is Much Better than 4.5 Stars
Color: Black
I can't believe the overall review on these earphones averages out to a 4.5. Maybe it's because athletes were expecting these to last forever, or have a tendency to do things that put a lot of stress on the cord, or it's ends, or they're getting tons of sweat or rain inside them. My perspective on these, I've probably tried at least 20 different corded earphones, and I'm talking premium name brands, plus the same with earbuds and headphones. I guess you'd say I'm always on a quest for the best, and sometimes for the lowest cost. For $20, I think these are the best. When I purchased these I wasn't expecting much. I've tried the JBL 110, JBL Live 100. For what they are, they're ok. I just did a side by side comparison with those, and these, playing specific songs I like, gave the best overall balance of tone, with much higher volume than those other JBL's, and enhanced dynamic presence on each song, as if I was hearing the song live in-concert. The drums and cymbals, the bass, the guitar, and the vocals, were all incredibly balanced, crystal clear with no distortion, incredibly present as if the band was right in front of me, and that was for studio recorded songs. I think one of the biggest problems with earphones achieving all the above, is partially related to how well they seat deeply in your ear, and remain that way. Most earphones don't achieve that but these do, and they do it extremely well. I had been thinking about these earphones for months, and kept talking myself out of buying them, due to the reviews for them only averaging out to 4.5, I typically won't buy anything on Amazon unless the review for it is over 4.5. Plus, I almost didn't buy these because I thought since they were for running, excercise and for active wear, that maybe the sound quality made certain sacrifices, compared to other JBL earphones. Not buying these would've been a huge mistake, they're not only the best sounding JBL earphones, they're the best earphones of any big name brand that I've ever tried, and I own some that cost way more than these. Now my plan is to order 2-3 more boxes of these, because JBL does have a tendency to stop making certain earphone models. As for the grade I gave this, I'm giving these a 5.0, because for $20, the sound is incredible, so incredible, I would've been willing to pay at least $50 for them, and still been happy with my purchase, the sound quality is that good. I've spent a lots of name brand earphones and this $20 pair puts an end to my earphone tone quest, I'm getting more of them as back-ups Now for the 4.5 reviews on here, and athletes or those that exercise and use these, I'm guessing with your phone in your pocket, and jumping up-and-down, twisting and turning, and putting stress on the ends of the cord of these, and stretching it out too far, or getting the inside of the earphones contantly wet with sweat or rain, yeah maybe they do stop working after a while, so what, they're only $20. If I was an athlete and purchased these for $20, and was exercising daily, and stressing and pulling on the ends of the cord, and drowning the inside of them with sweat or rain, and they stopped working after a few months, I wouldn't care if I had to buy another pair every few months, the sound the provide is incredible for $20. Stop whinning, suck it up and buy another pair if you're abusing the cord everyday. And if you're looking for something with a lifetime gurantee that's indestructible no-matter-what, and sounds this good for $20, please let me know when you find it. So whether you exercise or not, I dare you try these and say the sound they provide isn't worth $20. And if you find a pair that does sound better for $20, please let me know. ... show more

  • Mixed feelings
Color: Black
After Sean Olive's and DMS's social posts with graphs, I realized I can get a Harman reference iem for $20. My curiosity definitely worth that. First thing you notice in any product is packaging. In this case the cost of packaging is probably X5 of inears themselves. Sturdy box, nice prints, great unpacking, a lot of waste. Iems feel very basic, though everything - cable, shell, resin cover - is soft touch which I like. Cover there is to presumably protect them against sweat. They definitely tried to make the shell small, because cover is relatively thick and makes them notably larger. I don't think the task was fully accomplished, since while my ears are not the smallest, with the cover inears are still on the larger side. Also, with the cover tips do not fit my ears well, so I simply removed the cover. Cable is very microphonic, it's possible to wear them only behind the ear in iem style. Sound. I appreciate how the FR graph looks - first of all it is very, veery, veeery smooth. No peaks, no dips. Highly encourage you to stick to original tips. All the other tips I tried, are adding more peaks on highs. I EQ the sh out of all my headphones with the help of sine sweeps and parametric EQ. I discovered that on any headphone I still hear some very specific peaks and dips, particularly but not exclusively in highs. The sound significantly improves after I EQ those peaks and dips in and out, so the sweep is at the same volume at all frequencies. The good thing about these JBLs is that I do not need to EQ them up to 2.5K! Which is rare. Basically bass and a large chunk of mids are very well balanced, maybe slightly thick, which is fine. Having such a smooth FR through the entire range is definitely a nice accomplishment and it's easy to EQ. So now I know what things I like about Harman Target and what I don't. For $20 bucks. I nice milestone in audiophile's journey. ... show more

  • People rave about the Moondrop Headphones and not this??
Color: Black
I have no idea what people are on, but I searched for a good while for the best budget IEM headphones and landed on the Moondrop Chu's. People commented on the lack of bass based on the reviews but I expected the bass to be neutral, like 0dB, not boosted, and not negative, because they are also in ear headphones and give you the right fit needed for good bass. I plug em in and already have my V shaped equalizer in Spotify, boosting the bass significantly. I can barely hear the bass, with an equalizer.... I use my signature song to test them further, Starlight by The Flashbulb, for the lows that come in half way. Bass is literally non existent still. They sound like headphones from 1999 with the lack of the low end giving body to sound. I can't imagine what they sound like with the EQ off. So I roll the dice on these JBL's and I am pleasantly surprised. The bass is nice and full, deep and rich. While I still use an equalizer to boost the bass, that's just how I am. I like to hear the lowest of lows, an aspect of headphones that makes its advantages known on video game albums like Death Stranding by Ludvig Forssel like the song Chiral Carcass Culling. That song really has a lot of lows going on simultaneously, but is still real deep and clear. Even with the EQ off, the bass is very neutral, which is a good baseline and not negative or too boosted like Sony headphones. Neutral is what you want to be at. Use your EQ to get your V shape and the extra bass, stop relying on buying a specific set of headphones for the exact shape you want. Simply your life. Use an equalizer. I will say the highs/treble are a little overly bright, I feel like the 5Khz and up is a little boosted extra, but no worries, because to my ears, they give the perception of extra clarity without the annoying sibilance and annoying hiss. To top it off, the headphones are magnetic and stick to each other. The tips are easy to put on vs the god awful Chu's. Packaging is very nice. All for under $20. For reference, I use a pair of Apple EarPods because I have many around. I stuck with them for portability and not having to lug around big over ear headphones. Well these JBL's blow them out of the water. Same if not slightly better bass, and more clear mids and highs. Looks like the Earpod collection will start collecting dust ... show more

  • Pretty good but could be better
Color: Black
These wired headphones have good sound quality and they work well for most applications. However, the ear pieces are a bit on the heavy/bulky side, perhaps because of the magnets? That creates a bit of discomfort when wearing/using them for a while and that also makes it harder for the earbuds to stay in place in the ears and give a snug fit. They keep trying to fall out of place in my ears, so I have to constantly keep repositioning them in place. Thus, I’m giving these earbuds a 4 star, not a 5 star review. ... show more

  • Quality Affordable Earbuds
Color: Black
I compared several earbuds from reputable companies that were all $25 or less and these JBL earbuds were the best for me. I'm a professional videographer and have been using headphones/earbuds in my work for over 25 years. On the job, I usually use high-end full cuff Sony headphones, but I wanted to find an inexpensive set of buds to have both as a back-up and to use for personal needs. The most important features for me are comfort/fit and sound quality. These JBLs have a nice molded rubberized texture that tucked securely in my ears. I tried 'shaking' them out with quick head movements but they would not budge (unlike many of their competitors). If necessary you can turn them upside down and use the cord to wrap around your ear. I tried that and they still were comfortable. The sound quality was the best of the 7 competitors that I compared them to. Clean and distinguishable highs and a pretty nice full midrange/bass. (Keep in mind that these are still relatively inexpensive earbuds and they will not sound as great as high-end earbuds.) Other things that I liked about the JBLs is that they have a nice rubberized cord and magnets in the earpieces that hold them together - making them easier to wrap and unwrap. And unlike most of their competitors, their packaging was truly high end - making you feel like you just bought a $200 set of earbuds. I'm really happy with JBL and their attention to quality and detail. ... show more

  • Surprisingly good sound!

So much cheap electronics out there, was not expecting such a nice quality product. Good sound. Music sounds much better out of my brick like android phone.

  • Strong wires and great sound
Color: Black
I've had these earbuds for several months now, and they have been my favorite of all the buds I've ever bought. They're very comfortable, the buds are a good fit, and the sound quality is excellent. I use them for music listening, podcasts, audiobooks, and online video streaming. I haven't had any disappointments with them at all. The microphone has also been good enough quality for my online videos and podcasts when I've done live broadcasts. I am thinking of buying a couple more pair for the future in case they discontinue them. ... show more

  • These are a great upgrade from regular wired earbuds
Color: Black
These are cheap, tough, and come with multiple pieces to best accommodate your ear. They come packaged very well, sound great, fit my ear better than any other wired pair I’ve tried yet, and have become my main wired headphones for laptop use. Definitely worth the money. If you’re on the fence, I’d say give them a shot. I bought two headphone sets, that way if and when one sets goes bad, I still have the other set. The 45 degree bend right by the 3.5 mm input is very helpful too. They stay seated well in the ear, and for the money, I think this is one of the better pair you can buy. ... show more
