  • Good earphones that more than meet expectations - 4.5 Stars
Color: Black/Grey
This is the fourth iteration of the JBL Endurance Peak earphones, and at least based upon what I've read about previous versions, some of the biggest issues have been fixed. The one that I noticed most often was connection, or more accurately....disconnection issues. Upon opening the charging case (fairly large - comparison to remote in pictures) upon arrival, my phone immediately requested pairing. No need to go into settings or mess with the case. And through the first week of usage, I haven't had a single connection issue with my Android phone. Since these are sports earbuds, stability while moving is a key. I can confirm that these are not going anywhere, even under vigorous activity. Part of that is getting the right earpieces attached, however. Once you find the right fit, along with the ear hook, these do not move around or loosen up. You may feel a little ear fatigue after extended use. That's pretty common for earbuds that go inside the ear canal. But I didn't experience any irritation using these for an hour or two at a time. There are some other features with these earbuds that I really appreciate on top of the ones advertised most heavily. My favorite is the individual battery readouts. Using Android, the Endurance Peak 4 earphones give battery levels for both the left and right earbuds, as well as the case overall. This is very useful for determining what kind of battery life remains, especially if the charging case battery is depleted. Another handy feature is the GPS locator. Lost your earbuds? Well assuming that you set up the location service, you can track these down via the case. Then there is the Active Noise Cancelling (ANC). I typically don't use these features, but I gave it a try and it seemed to work as intended. The sound signature is the one place that I have a slight criticism. The sound fidelity is not bad by any means. These can be turned up quite loud with no static or breaking. My main issue is that they are tuned WAY too low for my tastes. They are bass heavy and sound a bit muddy without equalization. Fortunately that can be fixed. Using the equalizer in my preferred music application, I was able to get these sounding really well for my preferences. However, depending on how you listen, you may not have that option directly in the app, which is why I would probably give these 4.5 stars (which isn't an option) rather than five. Overall, these are really nice earphones that meet my expectations based upon MSRP. They sound good, have a nice set of extra features, deliver on their representation as "sports earbuds", all in a nice, attractive package. ... show more

  • I'm Genuinely Impressed With These!
Color: Black/Grey
I’ve been using the JBL Endurance Peak 4 earbuds for a couple of days now, and overall I’m really impressed with them. The comfort level jumped out right away. The TwistLock design with the flexible ear hooks is one of the better fits I’ve tried. They stay put no matter what I’m doing, and they don’t create that pressure point feeling you sometimes get with sport earbuds. I can wear them for long stretches without wanting to take them out. Sound quality is much better than I expected. JBL’s Pure Bass tuning has some nice depth without getting muddy, and things stay clear and balanced across the range. The big surprise for me was the Personi-Fi 3.0 feature. It takes a quick hearing test and adjusts the sound to your ears. I knew it would tweak things a little, but I didn’t expect it to make as much of a difference as it does. Everything sounds cleaner and more personal after that setup. Noise cancelling is good, and Smart Ambient does exactly what it should when you want to stay aware of your surroundings. It’s a good middle ground if you’re outside or moving around. Call quality is excellent. There are six microphones total, and you can tell. Voices come through clear on both ends, and background noise gets handled better than most earbuds I’ve used. Even walking outside in wind, people could hear me without the usual muffled whooshing. Battery life is great too. I haven’t had to recharge them since the original charge. I do have a few complaints, though. The case is bigger than a lot of other earbuds, so it takes up more space in a pocket if you’re already carrying a phone, wallet, or keys. It also has a built-in spot for a lanyard, but there’s no lanyard included, which feels like a strange omission. On top of that, the case didn’t come with a charging cable. I understand skipping the charging brick, but leaving out the cable feels like a step too far for a product at this level, especially from a brand as well-known as JBL. Even with those minor misses, the earbuds themselves are excellent. The sound, comfort, customization, durability, and call quality make them one of the better sport-focused options I’ve tried. If you can live with the bulkier case and already have a USB-C cable lying around which by now everyone probably does, they’re easy to recommend. ... show more

  • Great Bluetooth earbuds with solid features for the price
Color: Black/Grey
These are really great headphones, and for the price (~$130 at the time I bought them) they offer some really good features. Their noise canceling and transparency modes are both excellent, blocking out the vast majority of noise or making it sound almost like you don't have headphones in at all. They also have a "talking mode" where it lowers the volume of the track, but I think I'd usually rather pause (this is an optional mode though). Sound quality is also quite nice, out of the box the tuning is VERY bass heavy (and many may like that), but thankfully they offer a surprisingly solid EQ in the app, allowing for 10 bands of adjustment, and with a decent cut to the bass I'd say they sound as good as my air pods. Battery life is good, I've yet to actually have them go to low battery, especially with the charging case. Thankfully they charge with USB C, so that's nice as well. The ear tips are quite comfortable, and they include a mode where you can take a hearing test, which also checks if you're tips are sealed enough (important for effective noise canceling). Usually I wear a medium in ear tips, but to get a good seal I had to move up to a large (still comfy though). My only complaint is that the controls on both sides are capacitive, but you have to touch a pretty specific target, basically exactly where the logo is. I really have to think about it before hand, and I think this makes the double taps harder to enact than they need to be. I may get used to it over time, but it stands out as the only clunky thing on an otherwise great pair of sports buds. ... show more
