It works well in the middle layer of my Japanese shikibuton setup, sandwiched between a tatami mat on the bottom and an all cotton futon on top. Note it doesn’t get to the full 3.25”, more like 2.25” in the corners and almost 3” in the middle, and the queen size is more like 58x80 vs 60x80 like advertised. But I still gave it 5 stars because the foam feels dense and firm, the cover it comes with is solid, and for the price I thought it was a good value.

Perfect for people like me who like a very firm feel to their mattress- kind of like an upholstered rock, lol. This floor mattress doesn’t really have much give/squish to it, but that’s a good thing in my opinion. You can always add a pad or topper for a softer feel, if desired.

This was my second attempt at a foam-padded shikibuton, after the first was too flimsy and got flatter over time. I was impressed by the reviews and inclusion of a cotton cover, and entered with high hopes. Here are impressions after 2-3 weeks, which I will update if they change with more time. Mattress: This one is solid-feeling and substantial. It seems the advertised 3+ inch thickness and quite firm, such that I feel I’m resting on the shikibuton rather than on the surface underneath. Side-sleeping is comfortable without pressure points. I take off one star, and am looking at yet other options, because by the later part of the night I start to develop upper-back pain between the shoulder blades. This wasn’t an issue even with the thin and collapsing shikibuton I used previously, so I am a bit surprised. Feels as though maybe my shoulders do not sink in enough for straight spine alignment. Cover: Seems of at least as good quality as one I purchased for around $50 for a past shikibuton. The zipper operates smoothly and it fits the shikibuton with some room to spare. I machine-washed without problems, but hung it to dry out of an excess of caution, so can’t attest to shrinkage there. Overall I am impressed and would consider it a worthwhile buy even for a different shikibuton if they were sold separately. Portability and storage: I haven’t had occasion to weigh on a scale but it feels 10-15 pounds consistent with the description. It is too heavy and stiff to shake out like a blanket, but can be held up and kicked to knock off dust. It folds pretty easily in 3 sections and will stay in that shape after some pushing down, without having to tie or weight in place. Also able to be rolled with slightly more effort, but I had to brace it against a wall or headboard to hold that shape. Overall, I seem to be an outlier regarding the upper back pain, and I have not seen any defects or quality concerns. Quality seems good, it is reasonably compact and stowable, and the relatively low price and nice cover make it feel like it will not be too much of a loss even if I opt for another similar-sized shikibuton. As such I give it a favorable review although it doesn’t feel quite ideal for me.

This native nest floor mattress is hands down the best thing I've ever bought. Super quick delivery, unbelievably comfortable and high quality. from the stitching to the way it expanded to the pre-shrunk cover...just top quality. I have used floor mattresses living abroad and switched to this at home because of back and shoulder issues. This exceeded my expectations and is even better than the very high-priced version I previously had that was from an orthopedic surgeon. I bought the twin size because of space limitations in my seasonal home and it is amply sized for me even when I side sleep with a body pillow on a wooden floor. I will never go back to my other bed again. I highly recommend this quality product. even if you had a platform bed, I would consider replacing your mattress with this product. Can't praise highly enough and I am a very picky consumer with a lot of body pain problems that this genuinely helps. Thank you to the Native Nest people for this great product.

I have found this to be very comfortable for my guests, but for the first 7 days it smelled like something was rotting. Maybe it was stored near a dead animal or something it was terrible. I left it in a hot car all week and eventually the smell baked out of it. Other reviews mentioned a zipper cover but I did not get that, its just a mattress there is no layer to remove and wash. If it smelled like a normal new item that outgassed I wouldn't be so appalled but my whole house smelled like warm flesh when it was here. Super weird.

The media could not be loaded. This must be the most comfortable floor mattress on Amazon. I’ve tried a couple others in the past from Amazon that didn’t have near the substance as this Native Nest mattress does. Because there is more substance to this mattress, it does make it a little harder to fold at first. However, it became much easier to fold after a few times of placing my pillow and blanket on top of it after folding it up. See attached video. So, if it’s a little difficult to fold at first, then just place something on top of it during the day for a couple days. Then it will remember its form and become super easy to fold!
