I am a forever CONVERT to Japanese floor bed mats! Who knew they could be so comfortable? And you can take them anywhere by rolling them up. So save money on hotels/motels knowing you don’t have to worry about if they have good beds or not, or camping in a tent. Save money whenever you move apt/homes b/c you never have to buy an expensive bed setup and worry about moving it or selling/buying new because it’s cheaper to do that than move it. TOTAL CONVERT! FIRMNESS: Yes of course it has to be firm or else you’ll feel the floor. But it’s also surprisingly cushy and comfy. As a person with early lower back arthritis, I actually slept better on this than my sleep number bed. Since then I’ve also complemented this with 2 wedge pillows to help achieve as much of a zero-gravity position for my back. But I was okay with just a regular pillow and no elevated knees when i tried this the first time by borrowing my roommates while she was gone and i was in the process of moving my stuff in. THICKNESS: didn’t measure as this is far less important to me than how comfy i feel on it when i sleep and how my body feels when i wake up. Honestly nothing comes to mind that was obviously better than using this. However, for those this matters, it’s roughly 3” thick. SIZE: I purchased a full and i didn’t measure it to a T. It functions like a full would and plenty of room for one and unfolded laundry and a floor chair i use to sit up in bed to do laptop, iPad, etc. QUALITY: Since it’s a simpler setup, less complication, just works- have to say it’s good. I did buy a cover for it as i don’t think it has its own removable cover so i can wash it occasionally. I will assume buying an extra cover for this will also help keep wear and tear down on things such as seams, etc. Since there are no coils to worry about, air pockets (like Sleep number), or much compression/expansion going on beyond the initial 24 hrs from vacuum pack for delivery, the “fewer moving parts” theory would say this should last a long time.

I have a quilted futon I use that was nice but I wanted just a little more support so wanted to double it and use the new one as a kind of base. The original one I had was a little pricy so wanted a little less expensive addition. I didn't read the product description on this quite fully so I didn't realize it was a foam center and so had more support than my original so was a little worried it was going to be too soft. I was pleasantly surprised that it was still very firm while lying on it but the added support made it extremely comfortable for sleeping. I am getting great sleep with it and my other combined. My only complaints are that the material is less quality and very thin; it had a few very small frayed holes already on it but not big enough or severe enough to return it. It isn't like my more traditional futon either so it doesn't fold up easily which makes it hard to take outside to air out on occasion.

*3 Month Update* I’ve used this daily for the past three months since I purchased it and it’s been great. Still nice and soft and very comfortable to sleep on. It’s been working great on my tatami mat and even though I’m heavy at 250lb it hasn’t deformed or left an impression in the middle of it. —- Recently switched to the traditional Eastern style of sleeping on the floor and purchased a tatami mat. I’ve been sleeping on it for a few weeks and it’s been generally good. But I’m usually a side sleeper and the tatami itself was a bit too hard when laying on my side. Placing this futon on top of my tatami mat has been the perfect match. I like my bed firm and this futon has the perfect thickness where it’s firm enough but still soft and comfortable at the same time. It lightweight and the overall quality and construction is very solid. I saw a review (video) on here complain about a bump along the middle of the futon. Mine had it too but you know what? You just flip it over and use the other side which is perfectly fine. The futon seems a bit thin at first but it actually has good support to it. Even as a heavier guy at 250lbs, this futon is super comfortable. Highly recommended.

I have been sleeping on this ( with a tatami mat underneath) for one month. I decided to write this review because it vastly exceeded my expectations. Every morning I woke up with back pain when sleeping on my memory foam mattress. But I also had hip pain, leg numbness, and just generalized chronic pain too. I was starting to gain weight also because I was just in so much pain. I wrote that off as getting older (age 58). I also didn't get restful sleep...sleeping was "boring" bc I was never quite asleep . I started doing yoga before bed..and my back would feel better, only to hurt again after sleeping on the mattress. Ok...that's the back ground story. I threw the mattress away one morning because I didn't want to change my mind. I ordered this. Suddenly I was sleeping so deeply and comfortably that it was hard to wake up when my alarm went off. And not only did my back pain stop immediately, within a week all of my chronic pain disappeared as well. I am now starting to run again, and exercise. I feel so much better . The mat is so comfortable. It is a lot harder to get off the floor to wake up or use the restroom, but I have gotten used to it, and usually take each opportunity to stretch out my back before I stand up. So I'm just putting this out there in case this matt can help someone else who was suffering from chronic pain. I guess if the spine isn't happy, the rest of the body isn't happy. This matt improved my life substantially.

These futon mattresses are fine if you accept that the ‘special’ and ‘certified’ cotton fill material on either side of the foam poly core is not what my labels declare: 100% Polyester fill. I shall be returning these and pay a bit more for one of the true-cotton products out there, plus ad a couple inches to the thickness.
