This was to replace the one I used to commute to work and travel with. My advice is pick the color you like, because this thing will last for years. I needed a pack quick back when and only could get a purple. Didn't love the color, but figured I would switch when it broke down. 10 years go by and the only damage is the water bottle holder stretched out. That's not when it broke down. It’s huge! I was still using my previous very basic JanSport backpack (daily for 10 years!) It could go another year no doubt but the zipper on the small pocket broke (part-way, still usable) long ago and it’s getting a bit long in the tooth. Not a student but I walk everywhere and consider my backpack like the trunk of a car. This new one fits everything without needing an extra bag (or two) when I’m out shopping. I love all the compartments, their placement and size. I don’t have a laptop but it would be perfect. Settles on my back well. Kinda wish I’d gotten it sooner! Be careful ordering this. The construction seems fine, but we received a different color then ordered, and the Jansport patch is upside down. Not sure it I will keep it, as it is for my daughter, so it's up to her. I paid a lot for shipping as the color she originally wanted was only available from non prime sellers. My son is a die hard San Francisco 49ers fan so he purchased the red JanSport school bag for High School and he loves it. Apparently you have to have JanSport school bag if you want to be cool in High School. This is such a timeless, classy backpack that looks gorgeous and well made with high quality material. I've bought fancy (and expensive ) messenger bags that brag about their toughness and durability. With my daily use I've had zippers and shoulder straps fail - and none of them had lifetime guarantees.
