I tried a towel, I tried a padded placemat. My serger still wanted to take off every time I used it... and forget leaving scissors or anything else on the table—they were diving to the floor before I remembered to grab 'em. Broke a beautiful pair of snips that way. A dedicated chunk of felt seemed silly but I gave it a try and it is *perfect.* What a shock absorber! Shakes are minimized. No more traveling machine. Scissors and pincushions don't jump off nearly as easily. And since there's a buffer between serger and table, the noise is cut in half as well. If you've got a budget for sewing notions, and your sewing machine or your serger is jumpy or noisy, make this your next "notion." Like poor lighting, machine rattle-and-shake is one of those things we put up with, when making it better would improve the overall sewing experience so much. ... show more

I'm so looking forward to using this item! It's got Janome's name on it so it has to be good, right? The size is perfect- I'm planning on using it with my Platinum Gem, but it is bigger than the machine so it would surely work for regular size models, too.     • Improved sound, still moves
The mat looks nice under my sewing machine. It definitely helps to dampen the sound too. The machine stays in place on the mat, but mat moves easily on the tabletop. The mat also works well as a temporary pin cushion when pulling pins as you sew.
